Re Tel-Aviv-100.JPG QI nomination[edit]

I saw your concern about what happened to you QI nomination, on Lycaon's page, I have added comments there :-). --Tony Wills (talk) 11:48, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank-you. Rastaman3000 (talk) 14:16, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Rastaman3000. I saw your unanswered comment on Lycaon's page. Actually it was answered by Tony Wills. Tony is a very nice person, but I do not think his assessment about the busy Lycaon was what really happened in the reality. Of course Lycaon is very busy , but you understood him just right. Not only he has a habit of ignoring questions, but he also has a habit of breaking or creating his own rules, and sometimes using his administrative power as he is pleased. Anyway you were luckier than me with Lycaon talk page. At least Tony responded to your concerncs very nicely and very politely. My comment at Lycaon talk page was removed by Lycaon here. Good luck with Lycaon! Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 18:45, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your message, Rastaman3000.Right now I'm trying to figure out why he believes I'm harassing him. Otherwise, no, I am not going to do anything about him. He is an absolutely great and very knowledgeable contributor. Commons benefits greatly from his contributions. Of course this does not give him the rights to break the rules as well as to create his own, but I'd say we have to let it go. There are some times, when hi is in a better mood :) Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 14:48, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No... And I would like to point out another thing regarding VIC Commons:Valued_image_candidates/Goura_cristata.png - If you believe that the other image is better (Personally I believe that it isn't because the subject is not fully seen - the tail is cut) then please open a "Most Valued Image" review. Thank you, Rastaman3000 (talk) 14:36, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have written fairly and sincerely.

The overall objective - to make good photo shot and upload good images, a too little target - to receive awards.

I have uploaded more than 450 photos, however i have minimum awards. And it does not excite me.

In Israel exist lots of fine objects for a photo: fruit, flowers, plants, architecture, sea shells in a gift shop and more others...

What is type of Your camera?

regards, --George Chernilevsky (talk) 15:02, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I haven't expressed myself clearly; I'm not complaining about your opinion on my photo. I respect your opinion. I'm just suggesting that you add the other image, together with mine, to a "Most Valued" Review, where others will vote on which of them is better. My camera is Olympus FE290,X825. Rastaman3000 (talk) 15:07, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my English too not so good...

I have considered Olympus FE290, with it it is possible to create QI photos. Main problem - not stabilized. Use a photo tripod and good illumination, then it is possible to make a lot of qualitative pictures. First two hours after rising - the best.

Please, read it.

Regards, --George Chernilevsky (talk) 16:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in my answer` I'm usually active between 16:00-21:00 GMT+0200 (We have the same time zone :-) ). I'd like to point out again that opposing image is only done when it fails one of the 6 criteria. when you think another image is better, you should open a MVR, as specified here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Valued_image_candidates#How_to_review_an_image_or_a_set_of_images :"If you find one or more other images/sets which in your opinion are equally or more valued images within essentially the same scope, you should nominate these images as well and move all the candidates to an MVR." (under 'review procedure'). This is exactly the case of my image nomination.

Rastaman3000 (talk) 16:16, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Many thanks to You!

I have added the Geocoding impossibility information in the file AS-16_Kickback_2008_G1.jpg description (below main frame).

Possibly, i have not understood completely Rule. I should do mandatory nominate File:Goura_goura_scheepmakeri-BS_5.jpg?

Regards, --George Chernilevsky (talk) 17:37, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, and thanks.
Basically, the rule says that if the image fails one of the 6 criteria you should oppose, but if the reason you oppose is that another image is better in your opinion, you should nominate it for MVR. That way, one of the two images will end up valued, instead of just declining and remaining with no valued image for this scope at all.

Car photos[edit]

Hi, the car photos you have nominated for QI are really cool, and you have a good eye for framing and composition, but your camera is letting you down, with lack of fine detail and lots of chromatic aberration. If you can afford it, you should really think about an upgrade, it's a shame to waste such good photos, they could all have been voted as QI otherwise. --Ferengi (talk) 16:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your remarks. I shall consider upgrading to a better camera, although I probably won't do so soon. Rastaman3000 (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VI candidates[edit]

Please review your opinion at Commons:Valued_image_candidates/Bug_July_2009-2.jpg. Thank you. Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:42, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've reconsidered my vote, and honestly - I don't see any reason to change it. Geocoding is compulsory, "unless it would not be appropriate to do so. Exceptions include: studio and other non-place-related shots, unknown locations, illustrations, diagrams, charts and maps, situations where the publishing of a location might be prejudicial (for example, privacy concerns, endangered species)."
lets review these conditions one by one:
  • studio and other non-place-related shots - It is not specified anywhere that this photo was taken in a studio. If it was taken it a studio - it lacks this information. if it was not taken in a studio - it needs to be goeocoded. This is a place-related shot.
  • unknown locations - The location is probably know, otherwise how is it known that the photo was taken indoors at all? The uploader is the nominator, and the source is "own work" - which means that the photo was taken by the nominator. He probably knows then where it was taken.
  • illustrations, diagrams, charts and maps - irrelevant to this image.
  • situations where the publishing of a location might be prejudicial (for example, privacy concerns, endangered species) - I've tried to work out whether this species is endangered or not, but unfortunately I couldn't find out. If it is endangered the nominator should have mentioned that.
To conclude, I see no reason why the uploader refuses to geocode this image. In this situation, it is not eligible for VI status, as it fails criterion 5. Sorry.
Rastaman3000 (talk) 17:07, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In that case you should have provided the location without revealing this is your home. IMHO this is not an acceptable excuse for failing criterion #5. Sorry. Rastaman3000 (talk) 17:59, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not an excuse but the literal interpretation of the guidelines. Most regulars here know that I have a house in that village. You are relatively new here and may not be aware of the fact, but there were several other similar cases before this one (some of them mine). -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 18:35, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VI nomination[edit]

Hi, Rastaman3000!

The geocode information actually is not applicable. It is a studio photo. I can simply add co-ordinates, however it will be a deceit for users. The spider is found in Latin America. Studio photo is made in Ukraine. I leased this spider from a private movable zoo collection.

Flameknee spider in general is ultra-rare. It is protected by the law (catching in the nature is forbidden). The size with legs approximate 18 cm. Poison is similar to a wasp, however a dose much more. Hairs on a body is too poisonous. Speed of movement of 5-7 km/h.

A abandoned beach was used as a simple photographic studio. Information about a studio shot are added in description.

I will rather lose this nomination, but I will not add co-ordinate, which will harm users.

And now You should make the decision: still decline or change Your vote.

For me the conscientious attitude for users is more important, than the award.

With best regards, --George Chernilevsky (talk) 17:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked your picture again, and found out that you are right. I accidently havn't recognized the picture as a studio photo, because it doesn't look like that. I'll now support one of the photos (the one that in my opinion is better).
sorry for the misunderstnding,

I see no way that geocoding would add anything but an invasion of privacy. This is not a plant in its natural habitat: This is a cultivation technique, and would thus be in someone's garden. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:22, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are you not aware of the Israeli law prohibiting photography of all military installations and anything within them? Odedee (talk) 09:21, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please quote that law (or at least the relevant part of it), or link to it here? Thanks in advance --Rastaman3000 (talk) - Visit my new user-page! 16:54, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I hope you can read Hebrew. P.M. 21.0210 prohibits all unauthorized photography of IDF bases [1]; signs saying as much are posted on the fences surrounding all army bases. In addition, article 115 of Israel's punitive law prohibits surveying such places [2]. Israel's military censorship law is probably pertinent as well [3], articles 86-101. Odedee (talk) 12:02, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. First of all, none of the last two talks about photographing military installations. The first source indeed prohibits that, however I believe there is a contradiction between two laws. There have already been many discussions on that issue, on many forums, and the conclusion was that it is illegal. see example here: http://www.tapuz.co.il/Forums2008/ViewMsg.aspx?ForumId=394&MessageId=126550675 For a broader view, please read all of the thread including the comments (below the linked message) --Rastaman3000 (talk) - Visit my new user-page! 16:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you meant that the conclusion is that it is legal, not illegal. I do not consider the opinions of anonymous layman contributors in forums as authoritative, and suggest you refrain from doing that. The last two sources do not focus specifically on photography because they are far more encompassing, however they do mention photography among many other methods of publication (it is mentioned specifically in the censorship articles). You do not have to consider my input to be authoritative either, I just wanted to make sure that you are fully aware of the laws, and are not taking action out of ignorance but out of calculated thought. Lost something?[edit]

Have you completely forgotten what the Commons is? A collaborative project! I have read the criteria very carefully. My photo (homemade jam) is as you know an extremely clear example of "studio and other non-place-related shots" and as u know "unless it would not be appropriate to do so". In other words (and you know it), there is no guidance on the criteria why my photo did not meet criteria 5. So why not explain the problem for me instead of throwing in a nonsense message? You are not a judge, or a formal government official but as I a volunteer who is expected to help each other. Can you explain to me exactly what is problemt? To me, your actions here is arrogant.--Ankara (talk) 19:42, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have now given a [meaningless and unnecessary statement about geocoding]. Next time it would be better if you give direct information about what's missing.--Ankara (talk) 22:33, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
