Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Image coordinates setup in phone or upload[edit]

Hello RTmhasvai, hope you're doing well. Kindly request you to check the image coordinates that your phone is capturing while clicking an image. The latitude is interchanged with the longitude and vice versa, redirecting the users to some different place altogether. I've updated them for Pune based images on your images uploaded till yesterday. You can see these errors in the images you've uploaded today. Pune district has coordinates starting with 18 deg and 73 deg respectively. Not the other way around. Before uploading the image, you can check these details in the coordinates section. oh!!! thanks for spotting it. actually i upload my photos with location which doesn’t happen so i end up typing in lat long. I will keep a watch. but will

The location field gets automatically populated when your image has the relevant metadata. So to get the info in metadata, you need to turn ON your phone GPS and allow your camera to access the location by enabling it in the camera settings. You can then check the metadata by going to the image details on your phone and see if the location coordinates are visible. Thereby, while uploading the image on Commons, it will be automatically tracked. Hope that helps.

P. S. I've also updated the locations in all your uploads. Try not to add the locations manually, except the photos which you've clicked already, of course. DesiBoy101 (talk) 05:07, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for inputs. Just now i have uploaded a Beetle photo. Since photo is click when location was on, as advised by you i didn’t type the lat long… but when revisited the photos information it doesn’t have any coordinates…

18.56485° N, 73.79511° E now how can add these coordinates?

As I've mentioned previously, you need to change your camera settings as well for the image to capture the coordinates by enabling the location services specifically for the camera. Since you're using iPhone, follow these steps and it should work as intended.

For now I've added the coordinates that you've shared to your recently uploaded image. The way to do that is by clicking the edit next to Summary section and write Location|latitude|longitude in double curly brackets. See this here. Hope that answers your questions. Extension of Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan 2023 photo contest[edit]

Dear @RTmhasvai, We are glad to see the contributions under Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan 2023 Photo campaign cum contest on Wikimedia Commons. The event is being organised in collaboration with various organisations working on the river issues. The members of these organisations have decided to extend the last date of uploading the images till 31 August 2023. The objective is to document the images of the floods during July and August months. We have also identified that images on topics like - Citizens’ initiatives to save rivers, Human activities at the river, Rivers and festivals around rivers, Pollution in the rivers - are not uploaded sufficiently. We request you to upload these images and enrich the media repository about rivers on Wikimedia Commons. Do upload images till 31 August 2023 by clicking the 'Upload photographs' tab on Home page.
