I'm requesting the undeletion of this file. The decision was based on incomplete information at the time about freedom of panorama in North Korea. COM:FOP from the time does not mention Korea. After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. Deleted file still in use

Hello, apparently, you’ve deleted File:2020-09-24 Odette-Wicca Eumetsat Airmass RGB 640x448.gif in last November. But I just now accidently noticed, that it still was in use, cf. my edits: #1, #2. I do not know what went wrong, but please mind this in the future. Actually, I thought this was a task for the CommonsDelinker. Hallo Polarlys, ich finde die Löschung dieser beiden Dateien nicht gerecht. Ich bin der Enkel von Spinel und habe nach seinem Tod 1981 alles geerbt. Ich bin bis jetzt der Eigentümer und Rechtsinhaber aller seiner Werke - Fotos, Skizzen, Gemälden, Holzschnitten usw. Die Fotos stammen von mir, ich fotografiere alle seine Werke und viele davon werden zurzeit in einem Kunst-Atelier restavriert und für eine Ausstellung vorbereitet. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Sie die Wiederherstellung dieser Fotos veranlassen, denn diese Bilder veranschaulichen die Zitate, die ich in den Artikel platzierte. Es wäre zudem hilfreich, wenn in der Dateibeschreibung korrekte Informationen stünden, d.h. statt author=[[User:Lubomudr58|Lubomudr58]] → author= Iosif Shpinel (1892–1980) und statt source={{own}} ein Hinweis darauf, dass es Bilder aus dem Nachlass des Künstlers sind. Hi Polarlys, I will report on this photo. The object in the picture is a copyrighted work of "Anzen Kogyo Co., Ltd". The trademark is "Newラビット君(New Rabbit-kun)". This is not public domain. Japan does not allow fair use. The copyright holder of the character does not allow the use, and Japan does not have freedom of panorama too for artistic works. IP users seem to have misunderstood that I am good at negotiating with Japanese copyright holders.
I was not good at negotiations, so it was helpful to deal with it.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

Dear Polarlys ,

You deleted "Ariane 5 va247.jpg" which has been in use on Dutch wiktionary for nearly 2 years. It is really difficult to discuss the arguments for deletion or find suitable replacements when the picture itself is no longer visible. If a picture is in use on a project it seems proper procedure to follow the normal request for deletion process. Hi Marco, it was an image attributed to "ESA-CNES-Arianespace, Photo Optique Vidéo CSG" and uploaded under a CC license without any proof that this photo had been released under such a license. There was a regular request for deletion (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ariane 5 va247.jpg). The user who requested the deletion has extensive experience with space flight photos. I noticed you deleted the entire file. When I tagged it the only copyvios were the in between images in the history that were from Getty Images. The first and last were properly free-use licensed and should have remained. The only images that should have been removed where those images in the history, not the last and first images as well. URV-Löschung

Hallo Polarlys, danke für die schnelle Bearbeitung dieser URV. Die anderen beiden Uploads dieses Nutzers erscheinen mir auch zweifelhaft - sehen mir sehr nach "derivative work" aus, also Scans von irgendwoher. Denkbar wäre es allerdings auch, dass sie aus seiner privaten Entwurfs-Schublade stammen. In dem Fall wären sie zwar nicht URV, aber für die Artikelarbeit dennoch unbrauchbar, da OR.

Wie geht man damit nun weiter um? Die Kommunikation mit dem SD-SPA gestaltet sich mühsam; er hält seine persönlichen Skizzen wahrscheinlich sogar für Belege, die jeden IK-Verdacht ausräumen. Nachdem ich ihm - einem seit 2007(!) registrierten und zwischendurch fleißig in IK-Artikeln editierenden Nutzer - mühsam erklären musste, wo denn die Artikeldisk. zu finden ist, mache ich mir keinerlei Hoffnungen, ihm nahebringen zu können, was OR ist und warum es hier unerwünscht ist. --217.239.4.223 13:17, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Ja, sorry, ist ein wenig nervig. Ich versuche schon, mich da selber nicht mehr zu sehr reinzuhängen, es bringt nichts. Eine Adminanfrage allerdings habe ich in dieser Angelegenheit noch laufen, wo ich noch auf Antwort warte.
Jedenfalls lädt der Nutzer zwischenzeitlich fleißig weitere Dateien hoch. You deleted several images I uploaded but you did it for a good reason: I wasn't sure if the license of these images was free and therefore valid on Wikimedia Commons... EXCEPT FOR 1! Arn, we all have been there before: Some valuable photo from our possession, something from a newspaper. We can claim that we are authors and release it under some free license, but neither the statement nor the license are correct. Both are contrary to the project principles. Bro, I have no idea which files you are referring to. You can upload images here that you have made yourself and that do not show copyrighted works (a photo of a photograph or film poster is not ok, for example). You can also upload images of third parties as long as this is explicitly allowed and the file is under a free licence. This file I uploaded (File:Charles Stanley 2020 (QS2dw7EzUk0).jpg) was deleted for being tagged as a copyright violation. However, this screenshot came from the official YouTube channel of In Touch Ministries (Charles Stanley's church). I inspected the video now, and the CC-BY license was taken off of it, but it was initially uploaded with it. Hong Kong Throwaway Account

The Hong Kong Throwaway Account is a person or persons — it is difficult to believe that one person could be doing all this, it is more difficult to believe that multiple people could independently be doing something this specific, and it is even more difficult to believe that an organized endeavor to do this could be kept quiet — in Hong Kong, who appears to be motivated by contributing to Commons.

HKTA goes all over Hong Kong and takes hundreds of photos of everything. They create a Commons account with a gibberish name, and use it to upload their photos. All their photos have properly descriptive, meaningful filenames with serial numbers, and are placed in dozens of categories.

They do this for three to seven days, then abandon that account and start over. (This description makes me feel like I'm writing an SCP article.)

Leaving a message for HKTA is difficult, because all the accounts are abandoned after three days. I only bother leaving them the 'this photo you took of a painting is copyvio' messages for purposes of recordkeeping.

For a while, user:Faebot was adding images to [[:Category:Photographs by Anonymous Hong Kong Photographer 1 ]], but it had false positives (and probably a lot of false negatives), and anyway the bot's been inactive since 2021.

Really, though: aside from the photos of paintings by artists who are either still alive, or who died too recently for their copyrights to have expired, I don't think HKTA is doing anything wrong. I'm not even sure we could say they've been warned to stop with the photos of paintings by living artists, because they never see the warnings.

Sorry, aber ich halte deine Revertierung für einen schlechten Scherz. In den Exif stand von Beginn an, dass das Bild nicht unbeschränkt frei ist. Mag sein, dass das zunächst unter einer falschen Lizenz hoch geladen sein mochte, mittlerweile ist das aber offenkundig ausgeglichen. Jetzt so zu tun, dass das alles nichts zählt kann einfach nicht angehen. Ich würde mich ja freuen, wenn das Bild wirklich frei wäre, viel in der Richtung haben wir nicht. Aber das hier ist es ganz sicher nicht. Und unter den Bedingungen meinen Antrag einfach zu revertieren, statt ihn wenigstens in einen zu diskutierenden Antrag umzuwandeln - echt, das sind die Momente, in denen man sich fragt, was das hier noch alles soll. Hallo Marcus, ein Teil der Flickr-Nutzer findet Weiternutzung toll, bis das Bild dann tatsächlich weitergenutzt wird. Es kommt quasi täglich vor, dass die Lizenzierung restriktiver wird und dann hier Bilder gelöscht werden sollen. Im konkreten Fall ist es eindeutig, dass das Bild unter der angegebenen Lizenz hochgeladen und entsprechend auch vom Bot geprüft wurde. Wenn du einen regulären Antrag möchtest, steht es dir frei, ihn zu stellen (ebenso, wie ich einen Schnelllöschantrag begründet entfernen kann). Kein Grund, in Pessimismus abzugleiten („Momente, in denen man sich fragt, was das hier noch alles soll.“), insbesondere wenn man sich den Workload anguckt, den hier der kleine Teil der aktiven Admins abarbeitet.
