First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Löschen[edit]

Sag mal, wie hast du denn diese Löschanträge gestellt, jedenfalls sicher nicht mit dem Löschen-Link aus der Werkzeug-Box. Dadurch sind die LAs nicht korrekt formattiert und nicht in der Tages-LA-Liste, was sehr ungeünstig ist. --Túrelio (talk) 12:01, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Auf der de:wikipedia ist eine Beschwerde einer IP eingegangen, die bereits seit Wochen mehrfach versucht hat, die Bilder aus dem Artikel zu entfernen. Ich möchte da einfach Ärger aus dem Weg gehen, so wichtig sind die Pics nicht. PodracerHH (talk) 15:45, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Lässt sich die IP denn per WHOIS u.ä. dem Eigentümer in etwa zuordnen? Hat er/sie dich direkt angesprochen? Ich frage deshalb so genau, weil es für den LA schon eine Rolle spielt, ob du "gefährdet" bist. --Túrelio (talk) 15:47, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Die IP argumentiert mit juristischen Argumenten (Tegel-Urteil). Wer sie ist und für wen sie spricht, weiß ich nicht und WHOIS kenne ich nicht, bin auch echt kein Crack in technischen Dingen hier. Aber dass ihr die Löschung der Pics ein Anliegen ist, lässt sich aus der Historie nachverfolgen. Wie gesagt, es sind qualitativ verzichtbare Bilder und ich würde es begrüßen, wenn sie gelöscht würden. PodracerHH (talk) 16:13, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Die IP bemängelt hier auch, dass die von mir gewählte Lizensierung den Rechten des Besitzers widerspricht, da die GNU-Lizenz auch eine kommerzielle Nutzung ermöglicht. Darum möchte ich - sowohl aufgrund der unklaren Rechtslage, als auch auf meinen eigenen Wunsch - noch einmal darum bitten, dass die Bilder nach Ablauf der Prüffrist entfernt werden. Klar, alle auf Commons zugelassenen Lizenz müssen - zumindest vom Copyright her - die kommerzielle Nutzung erlauben. Mit diesem hier File:Herrenhaus Waterneverstorf.JPG gibt es ja kein Problem, weil von der Straße aus aufgenommen, oder? --Túrelio (talk) 17:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hallo Túrelio, danke für die Rückmeldung. Genau, dieses Bild ist von der Straße "Am Mühlenberg" aufgenommen, man sieht sogar die Einfahrt auf das Grundstück.
