Fair enough. Just testing the drill. It was simply that the notice seemed to me rather starkly worded, given that the poster has uploaded what he states is his own work to a site that announces itself with the words The Wikimedia Commons is a project that provides a central repository for free images.... Might not adding to the notice that see Commons:Copyright tags for more information phrase (as used in your answer) make it a little less intimidating and considerably more helpful? -- Picapica 12:37, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hi! Thank you for your help but please be precise. This file is from Cimochy in Podlasie Voievodeship, not in Warmian-Masurian - you can easily find this information in the name of category in which the image is. Upior polnocy (talk) 16:44, 15 July 2009 (UTC) PS. And in the Wikiekspedycja template, which is present on the file page as well.[reply]

Thank you for correcting my mistake, Krzysztof! Yes, the two Cimochys are 130 km apart. I did, in fact, look them both up in the en:Wikipedia -- and then carelessly copied the WRONG link into my submission :-( Picapica (talk) 17:32, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications.
