Hello, Penguinstorm!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Penguinstorm,
thanks for uploading these professional shots. However, as there is no direct evidence that you are Skot Nelson and as these images are rights-restricted on Flickr, we need to get a permission for File:Sarah Harmer Vancouver Folk Festival.jpg and File:Robin Pecknold tuning his 12 string at the Vogue Theatre.jpg from the photographer Skot Nelson or the rights holder. For that, please jump to Commons:Email templates, copy the boxed "Declaration of consent for all enquiries", enter the filenames and the name of the license of choice, and ask the photographer or rights holder to date and sign (put his/her name under it) it and mail it back to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (OTRS). Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 19:21, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Flickr image is watermarked creative commons. Unfortunately Flickr doesn't allow you to disable downloading unless the licence is "copyright." A major oversight on their part.

In both cases the image is a different image that I've dumped from Aperture *without the explicit* watermark, effectively making it a different image.

Nevertheless I do recommend you to send the above mentioned permission. Otherwise, due to the professional nature of these images every now and then another user will suspect them as copyvios. If you sent a permission, our OTRS volunteers will put a so-called OTRS-ticket on the image page and there will be no longer any doubts. --Túrelio (talk) 19:45, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
