User talk:Paulrevere2005~commonswiki
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be usefull to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitely.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted.
For more Information, have a look at Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you.—Breeze 17:53, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- In Image:Oil.2001-2005jpg.smaller.jpg is not yet a license, please add a Copyright tag. —Breeze 18:20, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Paulrevere2005. You said, you made it by yourself. Then please add a copyright tag an write, who made the image. You can choose between different licenses. -- Breeze 07:40, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Incomplete License[edit]
Hi. Your images Image:Skull1.squarejpg.jpg and Image:Skull2.square.jpg do not provide enough information about their copyright status. Any file uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons must be under a free content license or in the public domain, and should have as much information about its copyright status as possible. Specifically, besides the license tag (see Commons:Copyright tags), you should make sure that other people have enough information to verify the licensing claims by providing adequate source and creator data.
The Free Documentation License and all Creative Commons licenses require attribution. If you are moving someone else's files from a Wikimedia project to the Commons, be sure to name them in the image description. But even if you are the creator of the file, it is recommended that you attribute it to yourself formally in the description. An attribution of the form "Real Name ([[User:Username|Username]])" is best.
For content which you claim to be in the public domain, it is important to know the date the content was created to judge whether its copyright has truly expired already. Information on the lifespan of the creator is also useful. In cases of art which is many centuries old, this is obviously less important than for, say, a 20th century photograph. villy 16:21, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi - please remember to always give a source for images you upload. Also, when labeling something as PD, please justify that claim. If possible, please us Template:Information to fill the description page. -- Duesentrieb 15:31, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Arizona.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Arizona.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Image Tagging Image:Clostridium.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Clostridium.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Paulrevere2005. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Paulrevere2005~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
