Hello, Parutakupiu!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Gym wheel icon[edit]

Hi, could you make an icon/pictogram to use in articles about gym wheel? ChickenFalls (talk) 07:26, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Is this pictogram good for you? Parutakupiu 14:15, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah, very good! But it seems to be cut in the top and left side, is this intended? ChickenFalls (talk) 14:39, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I want to keep the same image size for all pictograms I make. To fit the whole wheel, I'd have to reduce the human form and it wouldn't look good. Even if the wheel is partially shown, I think it's understandable, no? Parutakupiu 15:17, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
I think it's OK. Thanks. ChickenFalls (talk) 15:25, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello, is it possible for you to create a pictogram for Open water swimming? I was picturing something like that but just with a head and a bended arm out of the the water. Thank you. --Iklaoo (talk) 22:27, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Mind if I ask where it would be used? Parutakupiu 17:17, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
I need to create a sport icon like these ones for OWS competitions: [1], [2], [3] etc. (All links are to it.wiki). --Iklaoo (talk) 17:51, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As a matter of fact, I'm now creating pictograms for the Paralympics sports, so I can do this one for you. I'll post the image link here when I'm done. Parutakupiu 18:11, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Here it is. Parutakupiu 18:50, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
It's perfect! Thank you so much, that's been very kind! --Iklaoo (talk) 19:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Biathlon pictogram[edit]

I like the general style of your sports pictograms very much. Still, I have two remarks about the biathlon pictogram:

 1. The depicted athlete performs the classic (parallel) cross country style - which is not how it's done in biathlon.
They use skating technique, which maybe could be expressed by a V-shaped position of the skis.
 2. The athlete is one of the few facing to the left, I believe the other way round would make more sense (direction of motion).

Kind regards, Roland — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.72.208.76 (talk) 22:08, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your suggestions, Roland. I've tried to incorporate those into the new deisgn. What do you think? Parutakupiu 23:32, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick editing & sorry for not getting back any sooner. Better, but I am still not quite content. In my opinion the pictogram lacks dynamic - the position of the pole seems very unnatural to me. Just to give you an idea of what I mean I created a draft myself:

I understand that this also isn't ideal because maybe it gets a bit too complex to work as a pictogram.

Kind regards, Roland — Preceding unsigned comment added by RGN (talk • contribs) 22:35, 05 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
