Please give images good descriptions[edit]

I noticed you've uploaded one or more images and I thought I should turn your attention to a common error.
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing! Thank you for stopping by. All of those images I uploaded today were not mine but were found on flickr as creative commons images. When using the FInfo tool to add flickr images, I didn't get the sense that I should change the output of the FInfo tool and add my own descriptions particularly. The form made it look like I should only include the FInfo output and not modify it! Thank you for letting me know, but we might also consider suggesting to the image uploading process - if you know where to make such a suggestion - that the suggested form be modified. For example, if where it currently says "(use Flinfo tool):" it also said "(use Flinfo tool, past the results here and make sure to add any further description needed):" then I would have known better what to do. - Owlmonkey 00:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you're supposed to understand, that when you see editable text, it means that you can and sometimes should edit it... Take this uploading tool for example - when you write your user name and the url of the image, you'd see a form which some fields are automatic, and the rest are yours to edit... re: "commons sense"; not to new users here actually. If the form is blank and you have to fill in each field, then sure. but the finfo tool conveys that it's content that one maybe shouldn't modify or else you'll get in trouble or something or you'll be 'doing something wrong'. so not really common sense for new users. - Owlmonkey 06:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, nice tool that! Thanks for the tip, I"ll start using bryan's tool instead. Really helpful how it prompts for categories too, so I can do that in just one step.
