4 Phases of the Moon: 1st Quarter, Full Moon, 3rd Quarter, New Moon[edit]

Apparently, there's a diagram of yours on Lunar phases. In this diagram, you incorrectly refer to the "Last Quarter" when it should be the "Third Quarter". This mistake is often made, but a mistake it certainly is! The proper order of the 4 phases of the Moon: 1st Quarter, Full Moon, 3rd Quarter, New Moon. Most everyone begins the 8 phases of the Moon with New Moon which is actually the 'Last Quarter', but the 3rd Quarter is just that. Please try to correct this, it's making me into a lunatic! - Benjamin Franklin 75.74.157.29 20:55, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, although the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary gives the quotation with 'last quarter', I will make the change soon. Many people begins the week with Sunday, even if that was the seventh day; many people says things which we don't agree. If Full Moon is a "legal" name then we have to apply the names for phases, not for intervals. Years ago I asked a forum of astronomers about it and there was no accordance. But as I said, I will do the change. – Orion 8 (talk) 14:20, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File usage[edit]

I've edited your original image to show the Southern Hemisphere's perspective: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Moon_phases_southern_hemisphere.png Let me know if I've credited you incorrectly as this is my first time uploading to Wikimedia.

request for name (so I can credit you for the creation of File:Moon_phases_en.jpg)[edit]

Dear Orion 8,

I edited your moon phase file so I could use it as an illustration in a scientific paper. Because your file is the original source, I would like to credit you for your work. Would you please let me know your first name and your family name, so I can add your full name to the CC BY-SA 3.0 label? Or would you rather remain anonymous? I could not find an email:user button, so that's why I'm asking here. If you want to answer anonymously, I have my email activiated (User: stereotono)

Thanks very much in advance,

Greetings from The Netherlands, Jeroen (stereotono)

PS: I edited your original, so that it looks something like this: http://www.nature.com/scientificamerican/journal/v21/n1s/images/scientificamericantime0212-8-I3.jpg ... but, I don't know how to upload it, so I can't currently show what it looks like. Hope this example gives you a good enough impression!

I answered in e-mail. - Orion 8 (talk) 22:39, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
