Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 21:50, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Signatures of Illinois Governors[edit]
Hey, In case you haven't noticed yet, I've been tracing your images of signature of Illinois governors to SVG format. I've traced all of them, as of now. I was wondering if you could find and more of them, or if that is all you could find. Thanks. Connormah (talk) 20:03, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Connormah, those were all I found, but I wasn't really looking for them when I found them ... I came across them while looking up information on the governors for English wikipedia, and I plugged them into the info box as I came across them. For example, Ninian Edwards. Re:Augustus C French[edit]
Actually, that website you linked to points back to the Wikipedia article, which bears the image you uploaded, whose source is left unclear. It points to the Cyclopedia of American Biography on Google Books, but the specific book is not in the link. I've looked through all of Google Books' archives of editions of the Cyclopedia and can find no pictures at all identified as French's I can upload my image separately, but I haven't found anything, anywhere, that shows a picture of Augustus C. French as that bearded man in your original. The oil painting in the Illinois capitol (the basis for the print that I uploaded) is probably the closest thing to an official gubernatorial portrait of French. Your original, which appears to be erronious based on the reasons above, is displayed on several Wikipedias in several languages, which is why I chose to overwrite it rather than chase down each of its uses separately. I would like to restore it, if possible. Fishal (talk) 04:43, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your help. Without a source I'm still skeptical that the original image really is Governor French - since it bears no obvious resemblance to the "official" portrait, it could just as easily be a mistake. But I also understand the importance of preserving the file. I already have started the process of improving Illinois governor pages - w:Ninian Edwards is the only article I've expanded so far. We'll see how far I get; thanks for the support. Fishal (talk) 20:26, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Copy vio[edit]
Srry a little mistake, i was confused with you including you as copyright holder, because you said the work it is a derivative of the demis map server {{Demis-pd} } as well as listing source "John Haywood's Dark Age Naval Power: Frankish & Anglo-Saxon Seafaring Activity (1999, ISBN 1-898281-43-2)." May i suggest clarification of the page

Re: Powys Post Roman Map[edit]
A nice map but didn't Powys stretch further East at that time and Pengwern more south east? Mariegriffiths (talk) 22:09, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi there! I stumpled upon this nice map of yours and I was wondering, was it your intention to use a contemporary map? Because certainly, Flevoland didn't exist back in 150 AD. Thayts (talk) 09:58, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
