archive 2005[edit]

Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitely.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted.

For more Information, have a look at Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 00:07, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Schau mal auf folgende Abstimmung Commons:Images on normal pages or categories:Vote. -- Duesentrieb 17:47, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Error in vote?[edit]

You voted "oppose" for two flower photos, saying at the same time "it's really beautiful". Was that an error? (bad cut'n'paste?) David.Monniaux 21:38, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No, that's okay. Beautiful, but not excellent :) Kind regards, norro 16:46, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Brauche Hilfe beim Upload[edit]

LG Mike = )

PS: Wenn möglich bitte in meiner WikiPEDIA Diskussion antworten, wird öfter gelesen...

featured images[edit]

Hi - as you seem to be quite active on the featured picture candidate page, I would like to draw your attention to this: Commons talk:Featured picture candidates#Categorizing images. Please have a look and comment -- Duesentrieb 10:56, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. I will help, working on that. Regards, norro 15:52, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

French translation[edit]

Hi,

OK, I translated the description in English of Image:Merson LeHavre1929.jpg. Yann 21:56, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Yann. Regards, norro 05:54, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Kaloe.jpg (COM:FPC}[edit]

I did not nominate this LoopZilla 22:23, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm sorry. You were the only one in the version history of the subtemplate. A mistake. Sorry, norro 22:55, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Iphiclides podalirius2.jpg[edit]

Hi Norro,

a picture I uploaded Image:Iphiclides podalirius.jpg is now a featured picture, but you said that the composition was not excellent... so I've rotated and cropped the image a litte bit: Image:Iphiclides podalirius2.jpg I would like this one to be the featured picture instead of the previous version - should I put this new one the featured candidate list? i know people voted for the other version (which may be deleted now) but the difference is really small, what would you do?

greets, Tbc 23:57, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tbc. Great job! I think i would overwrite the featured version with the new version, although it's not completely right in the strict sense. There are no relevant losings in size or quality, so how cares? Regards, norro 14:41, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hey norro, just to let you know that I've corrected the result of the picture, 7/11 = 63% so therefore the picture isn't featured. Regards, Joolz 22:37, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh, thanks. You are completely right. Little mistake :) norro 05:51, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yawning tiger[edit]

Hi Norro

Siberian tiger

I have finally found the tiger in my messy archive :-) I have uploaded it as you requested. Regards Malene Thyssen 20:33, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Great, i love this picture. Thank you. Kind regards, norro 22:09, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

COM:FPC[edit]

You say " not even any captions" at for Template:Featured_pictures_candidates/Image:Hilbert_transform.png

Did you consider that there is a large amount of information at Image:Hilbert_transform.png

A graph of the Hilbert transform of a square wave.

Plotted in Maxima with the following commands:

Heaviside step function:

u(t) := 1/2*(1+signum(t));

Rectangular function:

rect(t) := u(t + 1/2) - u(t - 1/2);

etc etc. The graph (image) has the plot, with scale and an axis. That is all we need on the graph itself. LoopZilla 2005-07-04 11:06:03 (UTC)

Yes, this information in the image description is great, but in my opinion an excellent graph has to explain it by itself. There are no captions on the axes, the two graphs are not labelled (which one of them is the hilbert transoform? the blue one, the red one, both?). This is missing, but in my opinion requirement for being excellent. Regards, norro 4 July 2005 13:15 (UTC)
But if this information was in the graph, it would be too cluttered. LoopZilla 2005-07-04 14:39:40 (UTC)
My guess is that the square wave is the one that is blue... and square. Agreed? LoopZilla 2005-07-04 14:41:44 (UTC)

COM:FPC again[edit]

You say "the fact, that the axes are of logarithmic scale is not really clear in this drawing, but that's important for this issue"

It is clear to me. Each unit is as follows: 10, 100, 1000 and 1000 (10, 10**2, 10**3, 10**4).

How else do you show a (linear-)log scale? This is very succinct, and hence makes a great diagram. LoopZilla 2005-07-04 14:48:03 (UTC)

Hmmm, i will think about that and will leave a suggestion on the image discussion page. Regards, norro 21:16, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

COM:FPC[edit]

Chatsworth House "Emperor Fountain" (which is fed by water pressure alone, and can jet to 90 m)

Usual? Really? LoopZilla 2005-07-09 19:07:15 (UTC)

Okay, i corrected that. Regards, norro 21:15, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Untagged images[edit]

Hey there, a few images uploaded by you, Image:OePNVSystemeDeutschlandJanuar2003.jpg and Image:StraßenbahngleisplanKolkataOktober2004.jpg are missing licence tags. Regards, Joolz 12:19, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Joolz. Thanks for this hint, i updated it. Regards, norro 14:19, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

COM:FPC[edit]

Hi Dbenbenn, you reverted the edits of user:Aleksis Q. Kivi at COM:FPC this morning. Why did you do that? In my opinion, the nomination of Image:Norway in satellite image.JPG was legitimate. Regards, norro 11:11, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aleksis copied Image:M&M's Spender.JPG to a hoax title. He nominated it as a featured picture, and in the same edit opposed it. And that user has only 3 edits. It looks to me like some Commons user was just having a little fun on Friday night. dbenbenn | talk 15:42, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dbennbenn, this seems reasonable for me. I was just wondering, because there were some curious things happening on COM:FPC the last weeks. Thanks for your fast answer. Regards, norro 18:47, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Staudensonnenblume[edit]

Servus Norro!

I split Commons:Featured pictures into sub-templates. If you see a problem, then tell me about it. Thanks ! -- Fabien1309 22:13, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. I actually noticed this when I decided to go through all of the FPC logs, just to see what had been featured and what had not. I think there are more insects than anything else. :) But it would be strange to withdraw the nomination, so we'll just see how it goes. pfctdayelise 13:03, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think, there is no need to withdraw, since it is nice shot. Perhaps it even gets featured. Kindly, norro 13:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
