Hello Nojhan! I found your wonderful picture from Stonehenge. But when i take it in my Site, it`s so big. Now my question: What must i do to get a smaller version? I`m not yet working with wikipedia so long, so i had no idea...thanks a lot--Sallynase 13:59, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the picture is not mine, but has been taken by Frédéric Vincent. I have only uploaded it on common for him.
If you want a smaller version to download, simply do a "right clic > save as..." on the image shown on the page, do not use the high resolution link. If you can download the high resolution version, you can resize it with a free software like the GIMP. NoJhan 07:34, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting some help on SVG graphics[edit]

Hello! I noticed that you are a vector graphics expert. I myself am just trying to learn the secrets of vector graphics. Would you mind having a look at the image I created to replace Image:Puu graafiteoria.png, Image:Graph_theory_tree.svg? The labels are somehow out of place. I used w:Dia to create the graph and then exported it into SVG format. The middle version that I have uploaded is the one that comes straight out of Dia. The first and last versions have been processed through Inkscape but they all look good when loaded into Inkscape. Do you have any idea what's going wrong and how to fix it? I am amazed that something so simple may go so horribly wrong. --ZeroOne 00:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be an rsvg problem (the software used to rasterize svg, slightly modified for mediawiki). Unfortunately, my own version does not produce the bug, and it also looks fine under mozilla and inkscape... so it is difficult to correct the bug.
The easyiest way to produce a good image is perhaps to convert the text in path. This is generally not a good idea because we loose the semantic information of the text. But as number are not supposed to be translated, this is an acceptable compromise. NoJhan 09:52, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I figured too it must be a bug in the Wikimedia-end. I converted the text into paths now, and as you can see, the result is... well, demonstrating an even more interesting rsvg bug! Maybe I'll just wait till they fix it. Thanks for your time again. :) --ZeroOne 15:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki-black.png[edit]

I am currently trying to create a gate "culture" on fr.wikipedia. I would like to use the image:wiki-black.png with the tool Portail culture2. Please, just say me if I may require permission for that. 82.67.221.237 23:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjours,

Smily 15:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Autant pour moi la licence semble ok, j'ai donc renvoyé le fichier modifié, a rectifier un peut ou a supprimer, as you wish. Smily 15:31, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nojhan!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Commercial use of a photograph published in Wikimedia Commons[edit]

Dear Nojhan:

I am about to publicize a website containing a photograph credited to Manul vaquero lefanso, obtained through Wikimedia Commons. The end result is the following:

http://sites.google.com/site/aldoloup/home/the-mystery-of-stonehenge

The same page in Spanish, Portuguese and maybe other languages will follow. A printed version is envisioned too.

I want to be sure that neither you nor the original author have any complaint about this use of the work. I really don't want to have problems over copyright issues down the road.

I want to thank you both for the opportunity to use this work in commercial ventures.

If you or the original author have any issue with this use of the work, please let me know immediately.

I am acting in good faith, in the firm believe that the license for commercial use that appears in the Wikimedia Commons page of this photograph is completely valid, accurate and current.

Thank you very much.

Aldo Loup.

aldoloup@hotmail.com

Everything is alright, but your message made me look at the credits and I discovered that the page was spammed. The true original author is "Frédéric Vincent", not "Manul Vaquero Iefanso". I apologize for having let this vandalism stay so much days, that's the very first time I see that. NoJhan (talk) 17:42, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo usage[edit]

Hi, I've been working on a small game built around animal quizzes and I wanted to let you know I've used one of your pictures.

I found your picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Llama_lying_down.jpg

And I attributed the picture like this: Johann "nojhan" Dréo with this link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Nojhan and also added a link to the license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/deed.en

I hope you're happy with it, please let me know if this is not the case. You can find the game here: http://apps.facebook.com/animalalbum Or through here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/AnimalAlbum/156339584490672

Kind regards, Garfunkel Jansen (talk) 09:30, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Thanks for taking the picture and making it available.

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Nojhan,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.

Permission to use picture of ant trails -- need signed release for publisher[edit]

Hi Johann,

I am working on a book for school teachers about engineering and nature, and would very much like to use an image of yours in the book, with due credit of course. Here's the image:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aco_branches.svg

The book is to help school teachers build a connection between children and Nature in schools, through teaching subjects like math, science, and engineering. Any profits from the book are being donated to education charities.

The publisher requires I get a signed release for any images used in the book. Can I send the release form to you to sign?

My email is samstier@gmail.com (samstier at gmail dot com).

Many thanks for considering this request. Sam Stier

You can reach me via the e-mail form on this wiki.
You may use the image, providing you honor the license, hence mentioning the author ("nojhan") and the licence itself (CC-BY-SA). A nice addition is to mention the URL to Wikipedia. NoJhan (talk) 19:34, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do you recall where the labels "bearable, viable, equitable" came from? Is there a source paper or book? Your 2006 graphic is one of the first uses of the seven labels I could find. Thanks. Jerome

Nope. I recall that it was made from an existing source, but I failed to recover which one. NoJhan (talk) 19:35, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
