42 In Division OrBat

Your OrBat states that the 27th BCT has the 342nd Brigade Support Battalion. That is incorrect. It is the 427th BSB. Here's the reference: http://dmna.state.ny.us/arng/27bct/27bct.php?id=units

that was not incorrect - but now it is as they changed the name. thanks for pointing this out! I can't keep track of all the name changes of all the units in all the worlds armies - so every time you see some changes like that - please let me know; thanks. Noclador (talk) 06:56, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division (United States)

I kinda notices that the combat aviation brigade its not on the Orbat compared to the other us division orbat. So i assume that it didn't exist. i did a bit of google-ing and i found it does exist which is station at fort hood and doing a deployment in afghanistan.[1]. i also look at the past graph of 4ID Graph and i saw that you had the aviation brigade listed on there was there a reason that you took it off there?--Corpusfury (talk) 13:22, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

because when I did the graphic the Aviation Brigade of the 4th Div was scheduled to become the Aviation Brig. of the 1st Armored Division after the return from Afghanistan. The Aviation Brigade of the 1st Armored stays in Germany and so they decided to move the 4th Div. Aviation Brig. to Fort Bliss. as far as I know that plan has not been changed... if you find a source that the 4th will keep its Aviation Brigade or that a new one will be raised (doubtful given the raising of a new Av. Brig. in Alaska last year) then I will gladly add a Av. Brig. to the 4th Div. Noclador (talk) 15:32, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
[2]They say there going to form another aviation brigade in Fort Carson. But i'm not sure on the designation.--Corpusfury (talk) 07:37, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
oh- good :-) now as soon as we have the unit designations of the brigade I will add the brigade with its units to the 4th Inf. Div. graphic. Can you keep an eye out for news/updates about this? And if you catch any other news about newly raised units let me know too. thanks! Noclador (talk) 08:23, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Methodology

Hi,

My organization is interested in referencing your Orbats for Japan, and I was interested in learning more about your methodology. I was hoping to be able to contact you to dicuss this.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. Yes, I was mostly refering to your sources. Are you able to read Japanese or did you find the information in English?

Hello!

I have reverted your edit because: Yes, there is a special permission for images from www.esercito.difesa.it. With this link "www.esercito.difesa.it" you can not evidence that this image really appears on esercito.difesa.it. As long as you do not provide more specific source information for this file, the no-source-tag remains in that file. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 09:39, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

ok, but the problem is that this image I took from the first page of http://www.esercito.difesa.it on the old page was (like on the new one) a series of images to current topics are displayed with a script - every second a new image and every other day those topics (and the images with it) where changed. so how to link to that??? the link where the images once was (over 4 years ago) was http://www.esercito.difesa.it - so now what should I do?? Noclador (talk) 17:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Are you sure that this image is no longer available on http://www.esercito.difesa.it? Have you searched for it? --High Contrast (talk) 07:02, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
I went through their media archive where usually all images end up - but the Italian Army did a redesign of their homepage some months ago and now their archive is almost empty - all the old photos that were there have disappeared and they have now a new type of viewer to look at the images. I also did a TinEye search for the image, but that came also up empty. To conclude - the image is not anymore on the Esercito homepage now. Noclador (talk) 09:45, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Questions About and Offer of Help With Spec Ops Command Org Chart

Hello,

I was wondering if you have a key for what the different colors/shapes/graphics signify on the Special Operations Command Chart?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:US_Special_Operations_Command.png

I would also like to volunteer to convert the chart to wikipedia:Graphviz format and or create a similar chart in Graphviz. What program did you use to create the graphic? Do you have the original source file? Thank you for your great work.

Russia Army New

Thanks for the Russia Army New picture.s

However, the Russia Army New.png picture you made looks a bit out of date when checking with http://warfare.ru/?catid=239&linkid=2239&title=ground-forces-/-land-troops. I assume this results from future changes in the Russian Ground Forces. Any plans to up date the picture? Also, you wouldn't happen to know if the common organisation pictures for the Russian Ground Forces (such as for a tank or motor rifle brigade) have gone out of date?

actually it is an unfinished graphic - I stopped the work, when it became clear that the entire Russian Armed Forces would be reorganized. The plan was to wait until it all becomes clearer and actually 2 days ago I began to collect the information on the 4 new Military Districts with the aim to create a graphic for each of them (including the Air and Air Defence Forces Commands). However the new graphic would only be down to the level of brigades as there is no reliable information as to what units are under each brigade. As for the organisation of the various brigades - no idea - information is only reliable down to the level of brigades, then it all becomes confusing and murky. The new graphics will come over time, cheers Noclador (talk) 11:04, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Program used to create OrBats

I was just wondering what program you use to create your orbat files? I'm attempting to create graphics for different battles of the American Civil War. I late hope to work on graphics for both sides of World War 1.

just Photoshop. By today Illustrator would be a better choice, but I began with Photoshop in 2000 and have continued with it since. Noclador (talk) 23:40, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

So I now have Photoshop I'm just at a loss on how to actually create OrBats. Is there anyway you can give me some instruction?

Hello. Could you please update the OrBats File:Lithuanian_Armed_Forces.png and File:Lithuanian_Army.png? New structure of the Lithuanian Land Forces: [3]. Thank you in advance. GiW (talk) 18:51, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Ok, but I have some questions:
thanks, Noclador (talk) 20:53, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
  • the Forward Support Battalion is now a Mechanized Infantry Battalion - correct?
    • Yes.
  • what happens to the Reconnaissance Company of Iron Wolf Brigade?
    • I am not sure but it should be subordinate to the Iron Wolf Brigade HQ.
  • what happened to the Gediminas Staff Btn.?
    • Gediminas Staff Battalion is now subordinate to the Chief of Defence.
  • what to the Guard Company?
    • If you talk about Honour Guard Company, so it moved to Gediminas Staff Btn.
  • the Grand Duke Butigeidis training battalion is now an active motorized battalion?
    • Yes, it was reorganized into a motorized infantry battalion.
  • 6th Territorial Unit of Prisikėlimo Military District is a new unit?
    • Yes.
  • last question: any changes to air force or navy?
    • Naval Flotilla now consists of the three squadrons: the Patrol Ships Squadron (P11, P12, P14, P32), the Mine Countermeasures Squadron (N42, M52, M53, M54) and the Support Ships Squadron (SAR "Šakiai", H21, H22, H23).

Thanks for making the map, but I think there's a change that needs to be made. Indonesia doesn't have any PT-91s, until this year they didn't even have any third gen MBTs, but they just ordered some Leopard 2's from Germany. I'd make the change myself but I don't know how.

Request: US 25th Armored Divison SSI

Hello,

I am currently planning to create an article on the US 25th Armored Division, a Phantom formation that formed part of the ficticious US 14th Army in Operation Fortitude. I was wondering if you would be interested in creating Insignia for the article.Graham1973 (talk) 11:33, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I think there is already the SSI you need:
Noclador (talk) 09:53, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I've linked it to the US Divison Insignia page & to the 14th Army article.Graham1973 (talk) 09:57, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Request: US XXXVII Corps SSI

Hello,

Another request but this one may be harder to do. This insignia comes from the Book "Fortitude: The D-Day Deception Campaign" by Roger Hesketh (The official report on Operation Fortitude). I've not been able to find a picture of this online, but I think the description could be clear enough to do this:

"The XXXVII Corps recently included in the Third Army, has its headquarters in Great Baddow, two kilometers south-east of Chelmsford; sign: on a yellow circle a diamond divided into two triangles, of which the top is white and the lower black. A third triangle, white, below, touches the black one at the apexes."

The quote above comes from a message sent by a double agent to the Germans.Graham1973 (talk) 14:20, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

uh, I rather not do this...
  • a yellow circle - easy to do
  • a diamond divided into two triangles, of which the top is white and the lower black - what size?? I would need to guess this
  • a third triangle, white, below, touches the black one at the apexes - same size as the above? or?
the problem I have with this is that much of it would be guesswork, and we're not allowed to do such things if we want wikipedia to be taken serious. Noclador (talk) 12:41, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

I've found a second, later description which does clarify things slightly:

"...two similar triangles with their points together (looks like an old fashioned hour glass); the upper triangle is black the lower is white. On the upper black triangle there is a third triangle, the flat side against the flat side of the black triangle. The third triangle is white. The whole thing is on a circular, yellow ground."

Supposedly a document exisits in the Imperial War Museum that has German pictures of the insigina created for various operations.Graham1973 (talk) 00:17, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

16 Air Assault Graphic

The graphic that you have uploaded onto the 16 Air Assault Brigade page is incorrect

It states 2 Parachute Rgt and 3 Parachute Rgt - there is only one Parachute Regiment - it is 2 and 3 Battalion not Regiment - can you please remove or amend

Thanks

it says: 2 Parachute Rgt meaning 2nd Battalion of the 2 Parachute Rgt; similarly 1 Royal Irish Regiment means 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. no need to amend it. Noclador (talk) 22:03, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Delta Force

I would like to question whether or not the use of the regiment symbol (three strikes on top) is correct.

My contention is that considering delta is based off the British SAS that it is infact a battalion sized unit that is following the "troop standard" just like the British counterpart. If so then the symbol used for delta and it's subordinate units should perhaps be downsized by one level (use battalion symbol for delta and company symbol for the squadrons).

Also I would recommend changing the name slightly so that it's more consistant with the way DEVGRU has been displayed with it's common name next to it in brackets.

ACE (Delta force)

DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6)

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/10/delta-force-gets-a-name-change/64310/

Jimothy 183 (talk) 15:46, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

hmm, Delta is over 1000 men strong now, twice the size of a standard battalion. that is why I used three strikes on top. Also Delta has been expanding over the last years, it strength now must be even bigger. But I fully agree with your idea do add ACE to Delta and will do so now. Australian Army update

I believe that a lot of information on the current structure of the entire Australian Army can be gathered here: http://www.army.gov.au/Who-we-are/Divisions-and-Brigades Also I think there should be an extract from the Australian Army Orbat made for the Australian Special Operations Command wikipedia page just like extracts have been made for the individual commands subordinate to the USSOCOM. Again information can be found here: http://www.army.gov.au/Who-we-are/Divisions-and-Brigades/Special-Operations-Command I would also investigate the possibility that the Australian Special Operations Command has an organic aviation element, most likely sqaudron sized. I think I have read somewhere that it has but I cannot remember where.

Jimothy 183 (talk) 04:31, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

thanks for the info!! I did an update of the graphic and uploaded it just now!! Noclador (talk) 04:44, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Bulgarian Army

Hello, Noclador. I am not a registered user, but I have been working lately to get the structure of the Bulgarian Army up to date. Actually all the information about the general officer rank positions and the actual orbat you find is systemised by me. I see, that you use it as a base point for your structural graphics and I really appreciate it. However I see you are not following them and this leads to the mistake that you make when referring to the General Staff and to the Chief of the General Staff. They no longer exist. Before the reforms the entire Bulgarian Army had a General Staff and the army; air force and air defence and the navy each had a Main Staff. These main staffs have been disbanded and the three armed services were directly put under the General Staff (bg: Generalen Shtab). In order to underline the fact, that a dramatical change has been implemented the government took the decision to rename it to Defence Staff (bg: Shtab na Otbranata, more literally the translation is Staff of the Defence) and the highest ranking officer of the armed forces thus had his title changed from Chief of the General Staff to the Chief of Defence, while remaining a four-star position.

Even in the new graphics you are making there are some incorrect features. I am trying hard to establish the exact structure and the whole thing is in the making now, so I sugest you take two weeks until I clear it out. Until then you keep it to the orbat posted on the pages. I have seen an error I have made - both self-propelled missile air defence battalions of the land forces were incorrectly stated to be based in Pleven. This is not right, in fact it never was. Only the battalion under the 2nd Mechanised Brigade is based in Pleven, while the other under the 61st Mechanised Brigade is in Kazanlak. The structure of the 4th Artillery Regiment is highly speculative because of information blackout. What is certain is that there is at least one MLRS BM-21 battalion. The other units are unknown and I have written that in the structure. It is not known if there are also SP Artillery battalions (Gvozdika), Towed Artillery battalions (D-20). It is not known if the Self-Propelled ATGM Battalion is integrated in it, independent or disbanded and its BRDM-2s stored. Same thing goes for the Missile Artillery Battalion (Tochka SSM). I have posted the probable structure of the regiment as: an artillery recon battery; MLRS batalion; SSM batalion; SP ATGM battalion, but there is no evidence for that and I admit it is highly speculative. The 110th Logistics Regiment is also unknown. Only two things are certain - that it has the 1st and 2nd Mobile Logistics Support Battalions attached to the battalion battlegroups of each of the mechanised brigades and that there are also other units under it. Of them at least one batalion as a National Support Element.

I see you do not include the training centres in Sliven and Pleven in the structure of the land forces. This is a mistake. You can consider them as a combination between training regiments and storage bases. So they are quite considerable structures and you can include them in the graphics with the symbol of training mechanised regiments. I would not be surprised if in the following one to two years planing is made for them, that in a state of war they each form a reserve mechanised brigade. Theoretically the training center in Sliven should in a case of contingency form a tank battalion for each of the two mechanised brigades.

The air force' Command, Control and Surveillance Base and the Missile Air Defence Base are not one-star formations, but regiment equivalents, commanded by colonels. So are the Air Transport Group and the Training Air Group. The Aviation Technical Base is the 6th ATB in Balchik, which used to house a fighter squadron back in the days and today is a maneuver airfield, used mostly for the summer seaborne flying training of the airforce. I don't see any discrepancies, regarding the naval orbat.

You also better stick to the general rank positions I have posted. The JOC is not a four-star, but a three-star command and is not the same structure as the Defence Staff. It goes like this:

Ministry of Defence

  • Defence Staff (four-star, an integral part of the MoD)
    • Joint Operations Command (three-star command)
      • Land Forces Command (three-star command)
      • Air Forces Command (two-star command)
      • Naval Forces Command (two-star command)
      • JOC units

And one more thing. As you are also interested in the orbats of the other armed forces your graphic for the Macedonian army is also quite outdated. You can see the new structure here: http://www.morm.gov.mk/data/file/morm/bela%20kniga/BELA%20KNIGA%20NA%20ODBRANATA.pdf page 37. This is the Macedonian White Paper on the Defence. Thank you! I will try to remake the Macedonian army this weekend. I am always interested in getting info on armies. I have done dozens of graphics and to keep them updated I need help like yours as I can not check them all. Therefore when you are done with the update of the Bulgarian Army, please let me know and I will quickly update the graphic. thank you for keeping me posted! I did an update of the Macedonian Army according to your information:
Organization of the Military of the Republic of Macedonia

Some follow-up: Yes, that is basically the new structure of the ARM with some minor corrections:

  • the Chief of the General Staff is a Major General
  • the Chief of the JOC is a Brigadier General
  • the ELINT Center is commanded by a Major, so it must be a company-sized unit actually
  • an airborne capability of Ranger battalion is highly unlikely. The aviation brigade only has one An-2, configured for liaison duties, transporting officers from the higher echelon
  • the TRADOC is commanded by a Colonel
  • I am not sure if the TRADOC has an HQ company
  • the Chief of the K-9 center is a Major, so it is a smaler unit
  • the Foreign Languages center is probably staffed by civilians, including the director, so you don't need a battalion sign or a company sign

The orbat of the Bulgarian Army is much trickier due to the pathological secrecy obsession of our military personnel. You would not believe this, but 23 years after the end of the Cold War everything here regarding the armed forces is still a secret, including units, disbanded decades ago.

hmm, if the K-9 Center and the ELINT Center are commanded by a major then at least to NATO specifications it is a battalion sized unit. Captains command companies and Majors and Lieutenant Colonels command battalions (at least in German/Italian/Austrian/French Armies for sure)... so if it is a major that commands the ELINT and K-9 Centers then we should stick with a battalion symbol. Should I take the TRADOC HQ company out? or leave it in? As for the Ranger symbol; if they do not have airborne capability then they are not Rangers. Ranger qualification demands that the unit is airborne qualified... maybe they get their qualification with the US troops? the Albanians do it like this.
As for Bulgaria. Yep, Bulgaria and Ukraine are the only two countries in Europe were I failed to get the graphic done for the last 4 years... both countries kept their structure super-secret... which is ridiculous! and for me an extra push to get the graphics out to showcase how ridiculous they are. As for the other changes to the Macedonian Army - those I already did. cheers and thanks, Noclador (talk) 22:26, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the countries in the region implement the NATO organizational standards, but the Eastern European military tradition is still strong in the lower echelons of the armed forces, as is the case here. These two units being controlled by majors most probably means exactly that they are company equivalents. The logic behind that is the following. Both units are put under a higher echelon, which has different specialisation. In the case of the ELINT center it is the General Staff itself, in the case of the canine center it is the TRADOC. So it means that their commanders must be more experienced, to be able to make some decisions on their own and it also means that they are their superiors' main advisors in the field of expertise of their units. So the higher rank does not mean a higher number of subordinates, it means greater responsibilities. About a staff company of the TRADOC, this is the organigram: http://www.morm.gov.mk/channelc/?m=0FDD55AB350265A1EC1DD63BB0D196DC1E32469F Bottom to top it means: TRADOC, the top box means "Command with Staff", the upper level includes the: "Individual trng"; "Cadet trng"; "Languages"; "Canine" centers and the lower level includes the "Trng Support" and the "Doctrine and Lessons Learned" centers. As you see there is no HQ company. About the rangers please take into account, that this is what the Macedonian General Staff calls the battalion. This does not necessarily mean that it is 100% US Rangers identical. I have not seen information, that the USAFE sends C-130s to Macedonia to keep Macedonian special forces airborne qualified. Surely three to four times a year the USAFE sends a couple of C-130s to Bezmer AB in Bulgaria for joint training and the 68th Brigade uses that opportunity for parachute jumps. The Macedonian army normally sends some 40 - 50 men on those occasions, but I don't think this is enough to keep an entire battalion parachute qualified. By the way do you have an e-mail or skype account? I have some questions about Western European orbats myself and I don't want to turn this page into a chat.
I changed the ELINT and K-9 to company. Also I removed the TRADOC HQ Company. As for the Rangers: I did some checking and it seems the Macedonian Rangers are partnered with the 187th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, which means that the guys of the Ranger Battalion definitely get airborne training. I would assume either in the US or in Aviano with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. Therefore we should leave the airborne symbol at the Ranger Battalion. As for email - my username on wikipedia is also my skype name and also my @gmail.com name. cheers, Noclador (talk) 14:10, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Struttura Esercito Italiano

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Orbat Fonts

Hi, I'm going to try to create some orbats using your style. Can you please tell me the font you use? It looks to be ITC Franklin but I need a bit more info on which particular ITC Franklin it might be.

--One Salient Oversight (talk) 23:38, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Actually it is Arial Narrow with 18pt and crisp edges. Noclador (talk) 15:47, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

My First Orbat

I'd appreciate any feedback. Note that I created the Machine Gun Symbol for APP-6 too. I also used four dots to signify a train/column unit (I've seen this done on other orbat images on the internet).

I decided to base the orbat on your current 1st Division image, rather than modifying your 1940 square division structure. I found the latter image to be too cumbersome and full of spaces while the 5 pronged nature of the WWI Big Red One fitted in quite nicely with the current 1st Div image.

I found it slightly difficult to get the Artillery Brigade in. As you can see it has 3 Regiments, 7 batteries and a Mortar Battalion. Having the units dangle down didn't look good so i moved the 7th FA Regiment over to the Divisional Troop column, but made sure I kept the line attached. By the way, I kept the Battalion symbols on the batteries because I'm reasonably certain that "batteries" back in WWI were the same size as modern Battalions.

I did quite a bit of historical research to ensure some level of accuracy. The 1st Engineer Battalion was, for example, a regiment back in WWI, hence the Regiment symbol.

I also placed some Coat of Arms. In order, they are 1st Infantry Brigade, 16th infantry Regiment, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 26th Infantry Regiment, 28th iNfantry Regiment, 5th FA Regiment, 6th FA Regmient, 7th FA Regiment and 1st Engineer Regiment. I'm not sure if they are necessary but I wanted the orbat to have some level of uniqueness and link to the tradition of the 1st Division rather than being just a sterile set of symbols.

I used Gimp, and the APP-6 Vector files (which I modified in text editor in order to get good colours).

WWI order of battle
Well done! Finally someone, who does proper OrBats! :-) Good that you put also the name of the unit and the time it was organized like this into the graphic. That's a plus and I think it's really useful. Two things though: 4 dots do not exist for units. Three is the maximum and denotes a platoon of at max. 60 people. So the 4 dots need to be changed and as I believe that the train units of an entire division must be at least battalion sized, two lines would be probably the best replacement for the dots. However as neither you nor I do know for sure if that is correct I would suggest to put your graphic up at the Wiki History talk page and ask other editors to help you perfect your graphic (that's how I did it with the WWII graphics I did): Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history. cheers and happy Christmas (and thanks again for the good work!) Noclador (talk) 00:54, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Okay done. I've changed them. I won't really bother with discussing things with the Wikiproject yet but I have left a message under the "author" section of the file if anyone wants it changed. Of all the OrBats in Wikimedia I've found yours to be the neatest and most consistent and I'm tempted to create alternative versions of [OrBats like this] by Dmanrock29, which were actually created recently. I like the idea of consistent quality. Maybe we should form WikiProject OrBats to get some consistency into it. --One Salient Oversight (talk) 08:57, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the compliment about my work :-) If you feel like creating new and/or alternate versions of Orbats feel free to do so. I am not so much on wikipedia nowadays anymore as work and the war in Ukraine take too much of my time. If you need help or have questions, please ask and also feel free to update my graphics if you wish. I can send you the original psd files if you wish. cheers, Noclador (talk) 15:16, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the update!! I appreciate it very much and did the graphic immediately. Cheers and many thanks again! :-) Noclador (talk) 15:13, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for fast reaction and this is very good what you have done. Many appreciations. However i see some erros:

At first Fire Support Company should use this sign because of Plamen S MLRS .Next I am having some doubts about Training Centre and its Companies except Service squad. In chart for old organization symbol for training center is round (I thought round symbol is for institutions) especialy for Shooting range, and Training ship Jadran in Navy. Also i do not think i gave right translation for Teaching Resources Service. It is literal translation, and it means Maintenance of Teaching Resources so could it be another logistic unit? P.S. You forgot to set Company Rank Line for Signal Company, and Engenier is Company not Platoon :) CRNAGORAMNE (talk) 17:11, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Noclador, fine work on the force organization chart! One little request, can you remove the SF indicator for the 137th Special Operations Security Forces Squadron under the 193d SOW? Just because Security Forces aren't special forces in the Air Force. It's called "Special Operations Security Forces Squadron" because any units attached to a Special Operations Wing have "Special Operations" in front of it. So a Maintenance Squadron for instance is called a "Special Operations Maintenance Squadron", or "Special Operations Mission Support Squadron". Thank you for all your excellent work! Cheers, -- Dainomite (talk) 04:13, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

French army new organisation

FYI : http://fr.calameo.com/books/0000633027e2265d96e81 and http://fr.calameo.com/books/00006330295d96892768e

thank you! I did check the two links, but a question remains: after the 1re Brigade Mécanisée is dissolved, to which brigades do the 1er régiment de spahis, 1er régiment de tirailleurs and the 3e régiment du génie belong? thanks, Noclador (talk) 16:10, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

In theory, no regiments will be disbanded. All regiments will go under command of another brigade (except for 2 engineers regiments (19ème RG and 31ème RG) (?)). All brigade will have 7 regiments.

For exemple : (9ème Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine) : http://lignesdedefense.blogs.ouest-france.fr/archive/2015/06/17/la-9e-bima-s-adapte-a-la-nouvelle-maquette-de-l-armee-de-ter-14278.html (1er RIMa and 126eme RI, former units of 3rd brigade, will be under command of 9ème Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine)

More : http://lignesdedefense.blogs.ouest-france.fr/archive/2015/07/31/restructurations-dans-la-defense-tous-les-details-en-16-page-14532.html

PS : Penso che i due reggimenti africani (1er RS e 1er RTir) andranno alla 6ème BLB, erede delle truppe dell'Africa. Il 1er RS era gia une unita della 6ème BLB

N.B. : The 1st Brigade will become 1st Division and 3rd Brigade 3rd Division.

Possible new Order of Battle

After reading it all and finding no definite source that confirms it all my take on the future order of battle is as follows:

  • 2nd Armored, 7th Armored and 27th Mountain will be part of the Division based in Besançon (likely to be the 3rd Division).
    • 2nd Armored - most likely only the 1er Régiment de Tirailleurs will join
    • 7th Armored - most likely only the 92e Régiment d'Infanterie will join
    • 27th Mountain - unclear if any unit will join this brigade
  • 6th Light Armoured, 9th Light Armoured and 11th Parachute will be part of the Division based in Marseille (likely to be the 1st Division).
    • 6th Light Armoured - almost with certainty the 1er Régiment de Spahis will join this brigade, and maybe also the 68e Régiment d'Artillerie d'Afrique... but it could also be the 54e Régiment d'Artillerie in Hyères, as that unit is right in the middle of the 6th Light Armoured area of bases.
    • 9th Light Armoured - the 1er Régiment d'Infanterie de Marine and the 126e Régiment d'Infanterie will join this brigade
    • 11th Parachute - no unit will join
  • 4e Brigade Aérocombat - no idea what units beyond the 3x existing helicopter regiments will join this brigade
  • Commandement des Forces Spéciales Terrestres - no idea if other units will join the 3x special forces units that are currently part of the Army Special Forces Brigade
  • It looks like the Brigade de Transmissions and Brigade de Renseignement will disband... where do their units go then?
  • Plus there is still the 3e Régiment du Génie and 31e Régiment du Génie which we do not know where they will go to...

With so much uncertainty I stopped updating the graphic until it becomes clearer which units will go to which brigades. Please keep up your good work and any time there are new developments let me know or let me know and edit the en:Structure of the French Army article with the new information you found. Thank you, Noclador (talk) 03:42, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

US Army and Russian Ground Forces

Hello Noclador, I'm your crazy fan of your order of battle. I hope you can create OrBats of US units and Russian units, like US 5th, 7th, 24th Infantry Division, 196th, 198th, 199th Infantry Brigade in 1991, or even during Gulf War if you can; Russian field armies, divisions, formations during Chechen War, 2008 Russia-Georgia War.. I think your Orbats like this type: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1st_US_Armored_Division.png is "more beautiful" than the other: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2nd_CAV_RGT.png And i hope you can tell me how to create an OrBat. Thanks for your attention

Thank you for the compliment and thank you for the suggestions. The US units I can do easily... but the Russian units are a problem, as Russia doesn't make its units structures public and most of the time Russia has to mix units from different brigades and battalions to form a combat unit, as almost none of its major units is combat-ready as a whole unit. I will see what I can do with the US units and will then post the graphics here below. Cheers, Noclador (talk) 19:17, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

You're lucky :-)

I had all the 1989 US division structures already and here you have them all. As for the brigades, those I have not... yet ;-) Noclador (talk) 00:42, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

US 8th Infantry Division OrBat

Hi Noclador. This is my second idea. I've just read it again https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8th_Infantry_Division_(United_States)#Organization_in_1988..5B12.5D . I think your 8th ID OrBat doesn't match.

I fixed the 8th Infantry Division article now. That was full of errors and crap. I base my graphics on a publication that contains the entire NATO structure as it was in 1989. I.e. here you have the CENTAG structure as it was in 1989: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CENTAG_wartime_structure_in_1989, Noclador (talk) 21:16, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
