You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Commons

Please understand that Commons is an image and media file archive for multiple projects. It's not Wikipedia. So, the fact you wouldn't want an image used in an article on Wikipedia, is not a reason to try and remove it from here. --Rob (talk) 03:53, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

i'm sorry that your first efforts have hit a roadblock; wish i could say that was unusual, but it isn't.

because of the third-party authorship of the image, & its potential commercial value, it will need to go thru a verification process for it to be kept on wmc

Deleted Photos & Artist's Rights (Niki Barr)

First off. You can "sign" you comments with your name and the date, by adding four tilds (~~~~) at the end of what you write. This allows people to know who wrote them.

Now, on your desire to control/influence what images are used of Niki Barr: Niki Barr, her band, and representatives of her, have no special say on Wikipedia (encyclopedia) or Commons (image/media archive). You're equal with the rest of us. We do have procedures for deletion of images. Images that are uploaded mainly to disparage a person are sometimes deleted. But, obviously the pics of Niki Barr are not like that.

Commons has a very low threshold for inclusion, as we keep almost any free image, that's properly licensed, that may be useful to any of a number of "sister" projects. As for Wikipedia, remember, that it's an encyclopedia, that writes neutrally about topics. It's not there to promote anybody or anything.

You may want to promote a certain type of image of Niki Barr. But, that's not Wikipedia's concern. In an encyclopedia, a picture of a person, is designed to show what they actually look like. It cares as much about the past, as the present. For a performer, it's good to have a picture of them actually performing. The photo by Michael Hrizuk shows artistic merit, but doesn't actually depict Barr doing what she's notable for.

Niki Barr is notable for playing music, particularly on tour, and she is NOT notable for being a model and posing in a window frame. I think the The photo by Michael Hrizuk looks great, and is much better looking than the older ones. But, what looks best, isn't what's relevant.

Anyway, I haven't personally re-added the older images to the Wikipedia article on Niki Barr, as I have no interest in fighting over this. Hopefully, other editors will contribute. --Rob (talk) 01:15, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, and for clarifying things. Unfortunately, we can't use photos if the photographer is unknown, as it's impossible to verify if the photographer consented to a sufficient release the image. Personally, my suggestion (just a suggestion), is leave things as they are for now, and the next time you have an opportunity, take a new picture of her performing, and upload it. Everything is much easier when the photographer and uploader are the same person. Also, if you're interested, you may wish to look around at some of our better music related articles for ideas on how to improve the article. --Rob (talk) 03:41, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
