Twelve Labours

Hallo. When a picture is within a so-called "daughter" category, (that is to say a category which is itself a part of another ("mother") category), adding the mother category is a duplicate ("Over categorisation"). I saw you put back the mother Category:Twelve Labours to the engravings already present in the "daughter" categories of the single labours. This is a duplicate, and this is the reason why your re-categorisation has to be removed. Yes, helping each other is what Wikipedia is about. Especially for the fact that sometimes rules are a bit weird to understand, and above all to locate in this chaos. One rule is that when you see somebody else making a patent mistake, when correcting it always remember to leave a post to him/her so that s/he understands why you did what you did. If you want to change smthng about a controversial thing, in this case leave a message in his/her messages page asking him/her to do it himself/herself. This prevents a lot of useless infighting.

By the way, I suggest to you to list your contributions as a gallery, because it is much more orderly and all the images are shown in the same size. Here is an example:

You can also create galleries that can be reached from your user pages but are ordered as galleries of their own. For instance, I made it with my pictures here:

Problems with upload

Dear "Yellow Lion", not only I am not upset if you "copy" what I do, but this is what Wikipedia is about. ALL we do here may be copied by anyone: texts, software, images, graphics... Furthermore "my" galleries were made copying other peoples' ones, and so on... :-)

Looking at how other people managed to do a thing and copying them is the fastest way to learn things, here. So please do copy anything you may need: this is Wikipedia! ;-)

However, keep in mind that here NOTHING is private, not even this very page. This is a space you are allowed to use, but it is not a private correspondence space. Anyone can read it, and what was written in it comes out through the search engine. Some people had troubles in the past because they gave "private" not-that-flattering opinions about other people... so much private that anywone could read them!

As for your problem, as you can see it is fixed by itself. The message you mention comes out when the central server is updating the index of the slave servers, which happens several times a day. It takes a little time, but all you have to do in these cases is just wating for a while and then reloading the page again and again until it is accepted. The duration of the damn' thing is unpredictable. But never very long, furthermore you get used to it. :-)

Last but not least, your uploads are simply marvellous. Your collection is a major enrichment to Commons, especially because you understood very soon the importance of captioning and indexing, to help people to find what they are looking for. Keep going!

Category change

As you correctly say, this is what Wikipedia is about. If your action is reasonable, there is no reason to fight. We do bicker in Wikipedia too, as in the rest of the web, but we try to keep conflict under control. However, change is a NORMAL part of work in Wikipedia. Warning the uploader is necessary only when you are making a big, substantial change (including asking for the image to be deleted), as a courtesy. Otherwise, yes, this is what wikipedia is about. And I you disagree with a change, I can always discuss about it with the changer. You can always tell it from the appropriate page, in our case, exempli gratia, I would have known who had made the change by looking here.

In my opinion these were more "capriccios" in the style of the "green man" than mascarons, but they might be considered mascarons after all. Therefore, go ahead. Hi! I hate to be a pain, but I don't suppose you'd be willing to release this at a very high resolution? Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
