Image transfer from Wikipedia to Commons[edit]

Hello NatanFlayer!

Thanks a lot for your contributions! If you transfer any image from Wikipedia to Commons, please use this tool. This tool transfers all relevant information with correct sourcing and licencing. And by the way it makes file transfers faster and easier for the uploader.

For example this image does not contain enough source information according to licencing policy because "Hebrew Wikipedia" (or "English Wikipedia") is not considered a valid source.

Thank you for your support! Greets, High Contrast (talk) 21:00, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

cropping[edit]

You have cropped many of my pictures - but the crop turned out to be a very small file and in low quality (probably due to croping software). A 3 Mega files came down to 100K (this is too small a file even after cropping, i.e. too much was lost in the way). You can upload new versions (derivative work) but don't rewrite the old versions (i.e. give new names to the files such as an ending "cropped" to each file name).

I didn't categorize it as Anemone coronaria though. NatanFlayer (talk) 07:41, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

stop vandalism.[edit]

Categories are correct. --Starscream (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stop pushing POV everywhere. NatanFlayer (talk) 20:32, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can admit that the category "famous photographs," is currently a little abuse. But all the other categories are correct. This little boy is not old man. Shameles vandalism. --Starscream (talk) 20:34, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
all right! You win. Not famous. --Starscream (talk) 20:36, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aiming - incorrect, the soldiers doesn't aim. Boys in Asia - too general, because hese are specifically children in Hebron. Toddlers - totally incorrect. NatanFlayer (talk) 20:40, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The weapon is targeted as a kid's face. This is fact. --Starscream (talk) 20:48, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The weapon isn't targeted at all. Educate yourself about perspective. NatanFlayer (talk) 20:52, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see that finger is not on trigger. But barrel is oriented to kiddy face. This is fact. --Starscream (talk) 20:56, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The barrel isn't oriented to the kid's face. Educate yourself about perspective. NatanFlayer (talk) 20:59, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, barrel is oriented to the sky! This is not 3D photo. This soldier does not want kill but only show a peculiar sense of humor. --Starscream (talk) 21:17, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The barrel points to the ground. NatanFlayer (talk) 21:21, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I speak ironically. Anyway, the kid too close to recognize as not this a shameful act. Why not "toddler"? --Starscream (talk) 21:29, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the "Toddlers" category, you can see that there are only toddlers there. No big boys, no soldiers, no street views, no graffiti... But this photo doesn't represent toddlers at all. You can always say "but there is toddler there!", but there is also some air there, would you add Category:Air ? NatanFlayer (talk) 21:36, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The kid is too important a character to ignore. This picture would be a lot less shocking if the victim was an old man. A large number of category for pictures containing a lot of people and objects is not unconventional. --Starscream (talk) 22:16, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The kid is not a victim, because the soldier doesn't aim at him, The boy is just one of the objects of the photo. NatanFlayer (talk) 22:22, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So to what aim this soldier? To ant? Think logically: If it were not the kid, then this picture would not be shocking. This is not a large crowd of people. Only three people. So adding a category that describes each of them separately is not problematic.
The soldier doesn't aim at anything, and the picture isn't shocking. NatanFlayer (talk) 23:29, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Picture say: Lying. --Starscream (talk) 23:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you hear voices in your head from any kind of picture, advice with your doctor. NatanFlayer (talk) 23:35, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. Vandalism and personal attack. --Starscream (talk) 23:39, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After calling me a liar a dozen of times, you have nothing to complain about. NatanFlayer (talk) 23:41, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you say that the picture is completely different than you see, I can say so without remorse. I say quite diplomatically. --Starscream (talk) 23:43, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I respect diplomacy, that's why I provide you again with a link to an article about perspective. NatanFlayer (talk) 23:49, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This link is useless. Rifle barrel is just inches from kiddy face. --Starscream (talk) 12:07, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Rifle's barrel is also just inches from soldier's hand. NatanFlayer (talk) 12:09, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Enjoy your toddler here. NatanFlayer (talk) 21:42, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comment As a new comer to this discussion I am rather lost. I assume it is about File:05 10 05 soldiers in old city 1.jpg or File:Stroop Report - Warsaw Ghetto Uprising 06b.jpg or both. I personally never liked categories like Category:Aiming and was rather glad when user:Andy Dingley removed it from bunch or images (like this one. There are countless of images of people holding guns and those guns often point in someone's direction (either because there is a clear intent to shoot or gun just happen to point that way). Unless there is a clear intent to shoot I agree with user:Andy Dingley that is was not useful. But I am lost at the edit war at File:05 10 05 soldiers in old city 1.jpg. The kid in the picture I would guess is about 2.5-3 years old which qualifies him as en:Toddler and the image is famous - I have seen it before and just look at results of Google image or TinEye searches. Why are those categories controversial? I personally do not believe soldier is aiming at the kid or means him harm, but from the angle the picture is taken it definitely seems like soldier's gun is pointing at the kid. Also the similarity to the famous Warsaw Ghetto Uprising image makes it ideal for people who do not support Israel in Israel/Palestine conflict. I think people supporting both sides of this conflict should be able to agree on that. --Jarekt (talk) 03:51, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The soldier holds his weapon in the way he should hold it, regardless of the kid. The illusion of aiming is only a matter of the angle the picture is taken. The toddler is already categorized. If you compare the widespread use of the famous Warsaw Ghetto Uprising image with this photo, you see the difference between a famous photo and a photo that occasionally appear on Google? Tineye, or whatever searches. Obviously, the SS-man Josef Blösche is "aiming" to the ground. We shouldn't allow people to categorize photos according to their political agenda. NatanFlayer (talk) 08:46, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that "The soldier holds his weapon in the way he should hold it" - other images from the same series show soldiers holding them the same way. I also agree that the image is not as famous as the Warsaw Ghetto one (by far), but it is well known. I just noticed File:05 10 05 toddler in old city.jpg. What is the purpose of it and how are you planning on using it? To me the central theme of the image is the interaction of the soldier and the kid, with their eyes locked on each other. Cutting the image in half makes no sense to me and seems like attempt to censorship it. --Jarekt (talk) 12:57, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have no intention to use that image of the Palestinian toddler. Cropping the image was the only suitable way to adapt it to Category:Toddlers. The whole scene isn't appropriate to it. NatanFlayer (talk) 13:15, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is not how we do it on Commons. Commons is not censored so you do not need to cut images into pieces in order to make it "appropriate" for different categories. I will add Category:Toddlers. --Jarekt (talk) 13:57, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
