[Standard] Normal Distribution[edit]

I found https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Standard_deviation_diagram_(decimal_comma).svg on the Dutch WikiPedia page for a Normal Distribution https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normale_verdeling and am confused by the 0 instead of μ in the middle. There are two concepts, and you seem to have combined them in a surprising way:

  • A normal distribution, with parameters μ and σ that can take on any value
  • A STANDARD normal distribution, which has μ=0 and σ=1; this can be derived from a normal distribution by subtracting μ and dividing by σ; it was used to have one lookup table covering all normal distributions

You are setting μ=0 but not σ=1 and that is a confusing mixture of these two concepts. It might be useful to have both pictures (and include the normal distribution in the WikiPedia page) or, if you want to stick to one, to not set μ=0 for that one.

Maybe the filename confused you; but the "standard" in "standard deviation" is really just the name for σ and does not imply that a normal distribution is a STANDARD normal distribution.
