Dutch Frisian islands map[edit]

Hi, I saw on nl.Wikipedia your map of Dutch Frisian islands, I want to upload it on Commons but I noted that there isn't any license indication, it is of public domain as other maps of Netherlands you uploaded here?--Dani 7C3 (talk) 21:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's public domain. I'll put a notice on the Dutch image as well. Mtcv 10:53, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks--Dani 7C3 (talk) 20:21, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Image deletion warning Image:Flag of Cote d'Ivoire.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

The map seems to be incorrect for Berkelland, Bronckhorst, Oost Gelre, Venhuizen and Drechterland. See nl:Overleg_afbeelding:Nederland_gemeenten_2006.png for links. 212.61.103.98 14:07, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics request for New York City article[edit]

Hello Mtcv:

Your map designs for Dutch cities are the best on Wikipedia. The two features of your maps that stand out most are their use of color (gray, white and green) and insets showing a zoomed-out view so readers can easily understand the regional geography.

Could you put your skills to work on the english version of the New York City article? The current map in the infobox is crude, unattractive, and fails to show the geography around the city (New Jersey to the West and Connecticut to the East). It shows an excessive amount of distant regions in upstate New York, but fails to include the territory immediately surrounding the city's territory. Many readers would benefit from you work. 24.215.188.172 00:18, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Collision Diagram for Tenerife Disaster Article[edit]

Hello, during recent edits of this article I discovered that your diagram, while nice, has the location of the collision marked incorrectly...the references indicate it was at the intersection of C-4, the fourth taxiway...the diagram has it half way between C-3 and C-4. This is an important detail....please correct if possible...nice work on the diagram. Excimer3.141597

Thanks for letting me know. I changed the diagram, it matches this now. Mtcv 17:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Dutch provinces[edit]

Dear Mtcv,

I really like your images of the Dutch provinces. Are these generated using some kind of script language or are these drawn by hand? I would like to use these types of images in for a hobby project of mine. Do you have any obligations to this?

Best regards, Marcel —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdehaas (talk • contribs) 14 Jan 2009, 11:43 (UTC)

Hi, if you're talking about images like this one, I use data that's available freely from the CBS, the Dutch Statistics agency (I know you're Dutch, I'm still speaking English if others want to know the same thing). On this page, you can download boundaries of municipalities, districts and neighbourhoods, in ESRI shape format, which is readable with a GIS application. I used OpenJUMP, which is free and open source, to open them and convert them to SVG. Then use Inkscape to open the SVG file and edit it to make it look as you want. The resulting SVG file can be uploaded directly to Commons, if that's what you're interested in. As you can see on the image page, you can use the image created using the CBS data for whatever you want, as long as you credit the "Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek / Topografische Dienst Kadaster".
If you're just interested in the provinces, download one of my files from commons in svg format (right-click here and save-as) and edit it with Inkscape. You can export to bitmap with Inkscape. Same obligations apply: credit the CBS. Mtcv (talk) 16:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:LocatieVlissingen.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:BeursVanBerlage.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
