NC 304 Map Error[edit]

The map that you supplied for North Carolina Highway 304 has an error. NC 55 is improperly labeled NC 56 on the map. If you could make the quick edit that would be great! Thanks, --Ncchild (talk) 23:22, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redirected from Magog the Ogre[edit]

Hi! I have question. Can I somehow create my own Senate Election Results by County by myself? For example this: File:Kentucky_Senate_Election_Results_by_County,_2014.svg If you feel confused about the question I think you should go first to this link. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Magog_the_Ogre#How_do_you_create_Senate_Election_Maps.3F Thank you. P.S English is unfortunately not my native language. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.28.252.206 (talk) 09:43, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know where to write my answer but I chose to write here, umm it may sound like too much but do you know if there is any tutotial how shade those counties like MTO? Thank you.

curious[edit]

how did you find out this was taken in Oregon (not Washington), and this shows New Jersey (not another state along that PRR line)? --Te750iv (talk) 10:42, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The HVDC line in the first pic is the northernmost portion of the Pacific Intertie which ends in Washington Oregon. The PRR photo was taken along the final curve into the North River Tunnels, the Palisades bluffs are in the background and the four sets of high-voltage lines on each catenary pole are the tipoffs to that. —Mr. Matté - En. very useful hints, thanks. --Te750iv (talk) 03:20, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania now ends at Exit 51 at Taylorsville Road.[edit]

Hello Mr. Matt`e:

There is no longer an Interstate 95 Trenton Section. This section is now Interstate 295 from Exit 67 at U.S. Highway Route 1 (Brunswick Pike) to Exit 51 at Taylorsville Road in Pennsylvania. The changes have been made by the NJDOT (New Jersey Department of Transportation) from Exit 67 on Interstate 295 to Exit 2 on Interstate 95 (Trenton Section) at CR (County Route) 579 Beaver Tavern Road and by the DRJTBC (Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission) from Exit 2 on Interstate 95 (Trenton Section) at CR (County Route) 579 Beaver Tavern Road to Exit 51 at Taylorsville Road in Pennsylvania. See http://I95Link.com (I95Link.com ).--Myeabnwp (talk) 23:03, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I will work on getting updated maps tonight to the affected articles. (damn Real Life™) —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 16:39, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Block R[edit]

Mr. Matte,

I am attempting to have the Block R Rutgers logo on your page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rutgers_Scarlet_Knights_logo.svg) changed. The logo is different than our officially trademarked logo. I would like to provide you with the correct logo so that the file can be updated. Right now, the file shows up as the #1 search result on Google Images, which leads to our logo being incorrectly used.

Is there a way I can send you this file? My email address is RRoselli@scarletknights.com and my phone number is 7324456018.

We appreciate you reading this and working with us to address this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RutgersAthletics1 (talk • contribs) 15:20, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Over categorization[edit]

First of all, thank you for creating the state highway maps in South Dakota--something beyond the expertise of this editor.

Second, it seems that you share in a very common misunderstanding of what "over-categorization" means. Rather than simply "too many" categories, over-categorization "is placing a file, category or other page in several levels of the same branch in the category tree" (see COM:OVERCAT).

Third, the purpose of the option of multiple categories is to allow the inclusion of a file, category or other page in all the applicable categories for which the file, category or other page provides relevant information (while avoiding the aforementioned over-categorization). While nearly all files have a primary focus, most will also provide relevant information applicable to more that one category. For example, Abandoned PA 61 2019 (7).jpg (one of your really cool and recently uploaded files) has a primary focus of an abandoned section of (the former routing of) Pennsylvania Route 61. However, it also gives a snapshot of how that part of Pennsylvania appeared in September of this year (much different that it would have looked in 1978). In addition, it is also a good illustration of graffiti in Pennsylvania. Because it provides relevant details for these two additional categories, they are also and should be included--even though they are not the "primary focus" of the image. Another example could be a photograph of the current President of the United States giving a speech, with a distinct view of the First Lady in the background. Although the President is the primary focus of the image, since the First Lady is also clearly shown, the image should be categorized there as well.

So, in the case of your South Dakota maps, they should be categorized in all the categories for which they provide relevant information, not just the category of their "primary focus". For example, while SD 123 map.svg has a primary focus of South Dakota Highway 123, it also provides relevant formation the following categories:

  • Road maps of state highways in South Dakota – since the category Maps of South Dakota Highway 123 does not (and should not) exist, this is the most specific category for this subject. (If such a category did exist, then the file should be categorized there, but should also not be included in the South Dakota Highway 123 category.)
  • Wilmot, South Dakota – in addition to showing that SD 123 has its northern terminus in that city, also shows the city's relative location along SD 15.
  • Marvin, South Dakota – in addition to showing that SD 123 has its southern terminus east of that town, also shows the town's relative location along US 12.
  • Summit, South Dakota – in addition to showing SD 123's relative location to this larger community, also shows the town's relative location along I‑29 and US 12. (Note: While I‑29 and US 81 run concurrent through the area, since that map does not show US 81, it should not be included as a category.)
  • Interstate 29 in South Dakota – in addition to showing SD 123's relative location to the freeway, it also shows that I‑29 has junctions with US 12 and SD 15 and their relative location to Summit.
  • U.S. Route 12 in South Dakota – in addition to showing US 12's junction with SD 123 (and the junction's relative location to Marvin), it also shows that US 12 has a junction with I‑29 and the relative location of that junction to Summit.
  • South Dakota Highway 15 – in addition to showing SD 123's junction with SD 15 (and the junction's location), it also shows that SD 15 has a junction with I‑29 and the relative location of that junction to Summit and Wilmot.

Even though SD 123 map.svg fits within the following categories (and many more), their use would be over-categorization of the map (because more specific categories exist):

For these reasons, your reversions of these maps have been reverted. (If you still insist on un-improving them again, this editor will most likely not take further action.) Thanks again for your contributions. An Errant Knight (talk) 22:46, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Congressional Map[edit]

You’re credited for the 2018 congressional map and I’m aware you have past experience at mapping, can you update North Carolina to its redistricted borders that were upheld yesterday and were just redrawn back in November? Charlierouth04 (talk) 04:53, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a shapefile or KML file available? —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 17:22, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Of the New Map itself or the New Map plus the rest of the United States? If for NC here's the link to it https://www.ncleg.gov/RnR/Redistricting/Main -Charlierouth04

Sorry if I'm bugging you, but have you read my prior message or started working on the map? I just want the map to be done before Texas filing closes where I expect multiple more incumbents to retire + multiple NC retirements are rumored.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlierouth04 (talk • contribs) 20:14, December 4, 2019 (UTC)

Converting PNGs to SVGs[edit]

Are you able to convert PNGs to SVGs? If so could you please convert these images:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_House_of_Representatives#/media/File:Oklahoma_House_of_Representatives_map_November_2018.png (Oklahoma)

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:VA2019StateHouse.png (Virginia)

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:New_England_Minor_Civil_Divisions.png (For Future New England legislature Maps)

They're for a mapping project called YAPms, you and the original creator of the PNGs will be credited if you're able to convert these

You can take your time on these, take as long as you want — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlierouth04 (talk • contribs) 02:18, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, busy with real life recently. If I were to create the two legislative maps, it would most likely be from Census shapefiles . I know Virginia recently had a court-ordered redistrciting so I'm not sure if I'd easily find a shapefile with that information. The New England map however, if you're solely just looking for the linework only, that's one thing but if you need something like similar municipal maps I've done where each object's name is the name of the town, that would take much more time. —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 18:03, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The New England thing only the linework is really needed,

Oklahoma the shapefile can be found here: https://okmaps.org/OGI/search.aspx

Virginia State house shapefile found here: http://redistricting.dls.virginia.gov/PlanList.aspx?type=GIS

You can start on these whenever you feel like it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlierouth04 (talk • contribs) 14:18, March 1, 2020 (UTC)

Blank Oklahoma House and Senate maps, blank Virginia House of Delegates map (small size to help simplify the .svg file but can be scaled up to a more normal size for the infobox).
However, on the New England town maps, I question the recreation of at least Maine. Per the map you linked, it appears that Maine has incorporated towns all the way up to the northern border. However, per the work I did in creating Maine highway maps in 2017, and from all the files I found on the Census site so far, a lot of northern Maine consists of large unorganized areas. Before I spend the time to create such a map, could you please confirm these areas actually exist and if so, ideally provide me a link to a site with a shapefile of these areas? Please don't forget to sign (~~~~) your posts. —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 17:56, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late response, I've been bombarded with essays the last few weeks, but I must thank you for the VA and Oklahoma maps!

On the top of Maine, I'm personally not aware how to open a shapefile, however this may have the answer you're looking for on this geographical website of Maine https://www.maine.gov/megis/catalog/ Charlierouth04 (talk) 00:09, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OSM Import Issues Resolved[edit]

We seem to be on different pages regarding the stability of OSM import for Kartographer maps. The history, as far as I know, was that import in OSM was gradually broken in some server migration last year; I brought up the issue on Phabricator and the engineers seem to have sorted it out: if you want to check for yourself if things are up to snuff, I suggest you take a look at the task in Phabricator, but as far as I can tell the issues have resolved. Are there any other issues that you think exist that would warrant this site staying with Commons maps for now? If not, I think we should migrate back to the imposm3 data BMACS1002 (talk) 17:14, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Connecticut Turnpike Sign[edit]

Hey, I saw the shield that you made for the New York State Thruway and I was wondering if you could make a vector version for the Connecticut Turnpike as well. Here are some reference pictures: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] and [6]. I believe it would be licensed under {{PD-Pre1978}}. Thanks. -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 00:53, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That was done by me over 13 years ago at this point(!). Since then, I unfortunately have a lot less time to do a full .svg design of this shield. If needed quickly, you may want to request it over at the USRD shield request page. —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 04:55, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
