National Geographic Magazine images[edit]

Thank you for uploading images on Commons. I personally like images of Russian WWI people.

Please add your images to other appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example: Category:People of Russia, Category:World War I.

Thank you for your comments. I'm sure you will find more like this in future uploads. However because of the number of uploads and the amount of time it would take to try to accurately categorize them all, I prefer to leave such matters to people who are more interested in categorizing. Image:Map of Jewell Co, Ks, USA.png[edit]

Hi, you claim that this map was published before 1923. It doesn't look that old so which license is correct? Thuresson 10:06.

Actually I don't make any such claim. If you read the notice a little closer: In most cases, this means that it was first published in the United States prior to January 1, 1923. This is one of those other cases where it was not published prior to January 1, 1923. —Mike 07:24, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio maps[edit]

Hi Moverton. You've uploaded a bunch of maps taken from [1], and tagged them {{PD-US}}. I don't see any reason to think these maps are public domain. The source page says "Copyright © 2005 Kansas Department of Transportation". Unless there's something I'm missing, all these maps will have to be deleted. Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
