Deletion nominations

Hiya! Thanks for all those deletion nominations! May I ask that you review some of the deletion reasons in future, please? Obviously as you have a picture of yourself, all personal images are not to be removed. Those need additional modifiers, such as "not in use, not own work, not a selfie, non-notable person" and so on. For those 720x900 images of nature which you felt had been edited in Picasa, something to point out is that they were all "Facebook sized" at 720x900 pixels. Then someone who can search Facebook will look. I really thank you for taking an interest in Deletion Nominations, I am not being critical at all of your work, only asking for some additions to your nominations! Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.

New West Bengal district map

Hello Mouryan,

I have updated the map. The borders are certainly not very accurate but I had no detailed map of the districts of WB for use as a template (if you find one – preferably a pdf file – you could notify me).

You could easily translate the map to Bengali using Inkscape.

Thank you so very much for your kind help. I do not have a PDF; however you may find a clearer map here. Just a small note, this map doesn't have the district of Paschim Bardhaman district (bifurcated from Bardhaman district) shown in it.

Hello Mouryan, the Paschim Bardhaman district is included in the map. I uploaded a new version shortly after the first upload, where I forgot to mention it. Maybe you have reload the page or purge the browser cache.
Concerning the File:India West Bengal location map.svg map I think it would be best to ask the creator User:NordNordWest. This is a really high quality map with quite accurate borders, rivers, sea shores, etc., and I think it should only be changed when we have good sources for the new borders. I really wonder that there is no official publication of the government of West Bengal on the new districts. I already noticed the mapsofindia.com map but it does not include Paschim Bardhaman district. --Furfur ^{⁂ Diskussion} 21:33, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for reverting. Yes, I shall get in touch with User:NordNordWest as you have suggested regarding the location map. Also yes, it is a bit surprising but as of now, the only remotely official publication by the Government of West Bengal regarding these new districts can only be found at the link which I had shared with you earlier. A highly unwelcome laxity on the part of the administration to not release a proper svg/PDF map.

Category:Mamata Banerjee in 2018

Why did you removed Category:Mamata Banerjee in 2018 from Category:Old women of India in 2018? As a 63-year-old female, it seems like an appropriate category. Ricky81682 (talk) 11:59, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Actually, the category Category:Old women of India in 2018 seemed somewhat abstract to me. Sorry, if it is deemed as an arbitrary edit. That wasn't my intention.

In what way is it abstract? I think it's all a bit odd but everything from Category:Old women to Category:Old women in 2018 defines Old people as age 60+. It helps to separate Category:Women of India in 2018 a bit. For Category:Mamata Banerjee in 2014 and before, she is in Category:Middle-aged women of India in 2014, etc. I'm just trying to keep her categories consistent with all female politicians (in India and elsewhere). How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Female politicians by party. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion).
