Nice work[edit]
Good to see some pictures being loaded. I have "improved" some of the categories so that they are in line with those we have already. I'm not sure you have the correct meaning of date and author. I think that this would be typically 1905 or whatever and the man who toof the photo is the author .... who may be "unknown".
We will have problems over the copyright as we need to prove that you and Andrew represent Monmouth Museum and are there fore legally entitled to load the pictures. This won't be a problem where the pictures are old as they are not in copyright (according to Wikipedia), but this will be an issue if the picture is taken in say 1980 when their may be a copyright owner.
Anyway - keep up the good work, Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 22:12, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
W. A. Call...[edit]
Hi,
Just to say that I've noticed you've been uploading a number of photographs by the Monmouth photographer William Call (1878-1965). Call's work is still in copyright (and will be for a number of years). Sorry to be a pain, particularly given the museum's generosity here, but could you clarify that you've permission from his estate to copy and license the images in this way? (NB: This is different from physically owning his photo cards.) Hchc2009 (talk) 18:30, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Cheers. Let me know if I can help at all (having worked through the copyright issues on a number of these in the past...!) Hchc2009 (talk) 11:08, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi Hchc2009,
Thank you for your patience. As you notice Monmouth Museum are trying to donate work to Wikipedia but they are not clear on the process. We are intending to discuss this tomorrow. As I see it we have two issues. 1. Convincing you that these are being loaded by Monmouth Museum and 2. Proving that they do own the copyright for W.A.Call's estate and any other material that is in copyright. Do try and work with us .... we will obviously request deletion of any images that are doubtful. 17:09, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- No problem - happy to work with you on this. Hchc2009 (talk) 22:40, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, I check with their head curator - William Call original photos were donated to the museum with the copyright - we are working on problem 1 in parallel. thanks for your help Victuallers (talk) 22:58, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

COPYRIGHT PROBLEM[edit]
Hello Andrew (and other commons admins). The loading of all these pictures is as we both know by you as curator of Monmouth museum and as part of the Monmouthpedia project.
What all the notes above are to do with is that Wikimedia has no idea whether you are who say you are. You can imagine that someone may think it funny to pretend to be David Hockney and give us permission in David Hockneys name. Obviously we cannot allow this. We have devised a system that allows you to send an email to a seperate address where your identity can be ascertained.
I did send the form for this some weeks ago but I'm guessing that the importance of this has not been realised. John Cummings is to come to the museum tomorrow to hopefully talk you through the process. I will see if I can find it and resend it. I will be in Monmouth on Thursday so I'd be happy to discuss. I think we need to show off the ownership of these pictures better. 17:02, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

MonmouthpediA Charles Rolls Challenge Best Image Contributor[edit]
Charles Rolls Challenge, Best Images | |
For your efforts in contributing articles to the MonmouthpediA project, your image was one of the 8 best images in the Charles Rolls Challenge, Thank you! We're pretty sure Monmouth is the best documented town in Wales, in many languages probably the best in the world.
|
If you are claiming that an image is out of copyright because the author has been dead for more than seventy years you need to state who the author is and, if they are not a public figure, when they died, or at least how you know that they died more than seventy years ago.
Thanks. William Avery (talk) 22:40, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Princess Margaret's visit to Monmouth Girls School.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too.
