Request help with OTRS[edit]

Hi there...

I found your name on Template talk:PermissionOTRS and wonder if you could help me (you were the first person who stated that they can communicate in both German and English and who seems to still be active here.

I am an administrator at the Afrikaans Wikipedia who would like to transfer a large number of images (about 47) from our Wikipedia to the Commons. The images are all from a German site, www.die-fans.de and before I transfer them, I would like to know if the permission contained in the permission e-mail is sufficient enough - it would be a waste to upload 40+ images, only to have them deleted because of insufficient info!

You can see here what the permission e-mail looks like (I still have the original). There are also links to the relevant images below it (I'll be adding it as soon as I've finished this message). The first e-mail posted there was sent to the original uploader, whereupon I sent a lengthy e-mail asking for all the proper things (as per Commons:Email templates) and received the second e-mail posted there.

Would it be okay to forward both my request and the answer to OTRS and then transfer the images? Obviously, when I e-mail OTRS I will also include the urls of all the images. Or is the permission e-mail not sufficient?

Any help or advice you can offer will be appreciated, Anrie 11:23, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the email itself (with the cc-by-sa licensing) looks fine, however I have another question: Are you sure that the people from "die-fans.de" have the copyright for these pictures? As far as I can see, the site looks like (amongst other things) like a foto community, comparable to flickr. However, in such a case, the original uploader to the website (be it now die-fans.de or Flickr or even Wikimedia Commons) still holds the copyright. He gives the website permission to use it, in Flickr and die-fans.de just with a normal "You may display this picture on your website if you acknowledge my copyright and display my name close to it etc.", in Wikimedia Commons with one of the free licenses which "go further", but in any case he still retains the Copyright. And only he can further license it, i.e. just as Flickr can't allow me to reprint any Flickr picture in my new book, die-fans.de can't allow Wikipedia to use the picture and certainly can't license it under CC-BY-SA without asking the original uploader. Summary: Not the license itself is the problem, but rather the question whether die-fans.de (i.e. the company behind it) is even permitted to (sub) license the picture. My stance is "No, they may not", but I stand corrected... Hope that helps, --Mbimmler 14:47, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I fully agree with you. I suppose that's why I contacted you - I felt uncomfortable submitting the permission slip as is. I shall try emailing them again. Thanks for your help. Anrie 15:39, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

deprecated function in your monobook.js[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS Query[edit]

As an active OTRS user; Can you tell me if Ticket 2007013110022751 is specific to Image:Gymnasta.jpg, or if it applies to any picture from that Source, given the same attribution? Many thanks, -- Ratarsed (talk) 11:47, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A script in your user namespace may stop working in February 2012[edit]

Hi Mbimmler, I found the deprecated function akeytt somewhere in your user-namespace, e.g. Special:MyPage/monobook.js, . It is likely that this will cause JavaScript errors after Commons is updated to MediaWiki 1.19 in February. You can simply remove this function-call as it currently does nothing. If you have a copy of user-messages in your script, you may remove it and instead activate User Messages in your preferences. Please also note that addLink is now natively supported by mw.util.addPortletLink. Thank you. -- RE rillke questions? 10:50, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
