Fuzzy operator + photos with unknown status[edit]

Hi Marc, and welcome to the Commons! When you tag an image as {{GFDL}}, you need to indicate who the copyright holder is, for attribution. For example, I suggest you re-tag Image:Marc W F Meurrens Island 1994@133x177.jpg as {{GFDL-self}}. Also, is there any reason to think that Image:Lofti A Zadeh@110x160.jpeg is under the GFDL? Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 19:51, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi David,
  • I just send a mail to the 2 concerned persons to ask them their agreement. I found your mail (thru your key) and CC you @ cornell. If you didn't receive it, let me know. Let us wait a few days before removing the 2 photos?
  • I'll remove anyway (and immediately) all personal photos from the Category:Fuzzy operator but, if we get the acceptance, I suggest to leave them on the article where all images are shortly presented Fuzzy operator. The idea is that some writer, teacher, contributor, etc may want to use them when using the other (more interesting...) 3D images.
  • Btw, I am in the process of updating my uploads (both my few personal photos and my personal teaching material) as to include everywhere {{self2|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.0}} as found on your own uploads.
  • Thanks for your effort to make things running. I am new to the wiki project, so I'll try to do my best... but I may still need your advice in the future.
Regards, Marc M., Bruxelles (be) 22:53, 2005 Jun 22 (UTC)
Don't worry, I won't delete the photos, and I don't think anyone else will any time soon. Hopefully they'll agree to release the photos. Thanks for being so conscientious about sorting that out. Good luck! dbenbenn | talk 23:45, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

test gallery...[edit]

Hi, do you know the copyright status of this photo? Is it a violation or not? Regards, Thuresson 02:36, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When I uploaded the photos of prof. Zadeh and prof. Jager (as published on their academic page), I asked the authorization by mail. Lofti A Zadeh is the only one for which I did not receive an answer but the reason is probably holidays and/or the fact that prof. Zadeh is now partially retired and quite an old (and respectable) man (*) . The photo was just uploaded to help colleagues from all over the world preparing lectures on fuzzy logic and display btw the photography of the 'founder'. If you think it's a violation and a problem, you may remove it (I'll place them on some less convenient repository but it's not an essential problem). The essential images are the collection of fuzzy operators and, anyway, these were created by me and I placed them on commons under a free license! I personnaly don't believe Zadeh's photo makes problem : it's just a mark of respect for the man behind some of the concepts shown there : prof. Zadeh now belongs more or less to the history of sciences (despite the controversies between pure mathematicians, still another debate...) so I think his official academic photo is more or less public (but I am not a lawyer, just an engineer...). --Marc M., Bruxelles (be) 13:49, 25 July 2005 (UTC) (*) see http://psyche.ee.auth.gr/old/tolias/photos.htm (the photo with the 3 men in Barcelona congress) to understand what I mean. May be this photo can be made public if I ask to the greek colleague who publish it in 1997?[reply]

Re: Who is Who[edit]

Hi Marc,

I am probably not the Pierre from Braine-le-Château you know. Regards

Thanks for uploading File:Ronald_R_Yager@149x202.jpeg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Ronald_R_Yager@149x202.jpeg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

File:Gustave-courbet-orsay-paris.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
