Recently uploaded maps[edit]

Hi, Ly.nom, could you please always provide a link to the sources you used to create your maps? Without sources, the community can have no indication whether or not your maps can even be used in articles. Most Wikipedias don't condone own research, or possibly falsified data (I am not accusing you to have done so, but people may want to check where your numbers came from). You can see all your uploads via this link and you can still edit the descripion pages. Thanks a lot, and... may truth prevail! --Enyavar (talk) 20:49, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you can always find the linked source in the description of the uploaded image. For the one about public opinion on Russia it's the same one the Wikipedia article already uses. I will add a second reference to them. Thanks for keeping Wikipedia free from propaganda, Ly.n0m (talk) 21:25, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Please feel free to tell me if there's anything I've forgotten to add Ly.n0m (talk) 21:34, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, many of your edits are okay! I can find where to go with links like this. However, this link does not lead me to the specific dataset that I'd need to confirm what the map shows (You uploaded many highly different maps with this same source). And another tip, the media description tables have a field where you always inserted "Own Work". That is of course that statement from the upload tool, but you can later modify this this in the code: "<code>|source={{own}}, based on [<your sourcelink>]". Here is an example. The best luck in your endeavors, --Enyavar (talk) 01:22, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for teaching me how to properly source my maps, I will do the same for the remaining ones. Concerning the V-Dem maps, while they might be a reliable source on many democracy-related statistics, at least torture is hard to measure as it often happens in secret and is prone to propaganda as a topic, therefore I am fine with dropping that map. Oh, I am not advocating for deletions right now! I am just curious what the methodology was to classify the countries, your example is this one here. I see numbers and percentages. Someone - either the people of Vdem or the source they were accessing themselves - seems to have been evaluating almost 200 countries on Earth with some standardized method, and put them into one of nine classes from dark green to dark red. Good practice is to document what indicators were used. I can imagine this being as simple as "complaints about torture per capita, as per Amnesty Int.", or a complicated mix of ten different indicators (which you don't need to fully explain yourself in that case, just provide a link to the full explanation). Your map says there is ~25% torture in the USA but Ireland has less than 10% torture. I'm always curious and want to know how the statistics behind such maps. (And only in the case that the numbers are all made up: only then would I say "delete this it's worthless"). Now, I checked your source myself (by the way, you should have also written which of the 500 indicators you chose), and under "Freedom from torture" there is a box explaining how countries were put into one of five groups, for each year from 1900 to today. The indicator is 0 for systematic torture and 4 for full compliance with a no torture regime. Please imagine my confusion on how the creators of the map of Vdem have possibly calculated 1.26 for Russia but 1.3 for Kasachstan. --Enyavar (talk) 12:49, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File:Culture Map 2017 conclusive.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
