Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 22:57, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Flickr Uploader does not upload PNG images[edit]

I fixed the interface to automatically guess the correct extension. I have uplaoded that specific file as Image:Xubuntu Feisty installation - step 2.png. -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

Your signature is a little messed up in your latest post on the village pump - you may want to fix. Cheers, Majorly talk 23:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it on COM:VP. You forgot to turn RAW on. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 23:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Original Barnstar
Thank you for your amazing work on handling OTRS tickets. Your professionalism, involvement and hard work — though not necessarily visible publicly — are greatly appreciated. odder (talk) 15:52, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please put in the correct OTRS ticket for this image as its in flickr unsourced category right now. There is no OTRS ticket in the image file. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:46, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It was in that category until an automated process verified the authenticity of the Flickr license. LFaraone (talk) 23:41, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thank you for the clarification. --Leoboudv (talk) 23:43, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LFaraone, I just got your email (I've been out of town) and just contacted the uploader again. Sorry for the confusing OTRS email. Everything would go much more smoothly if he'd just email me where I could explain things more explicitly, instead of being forced to use the damned Twitter service. Thanks for your help; we'll see what comes of this round. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 18:07, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aldous Tyler has sent you an e-mail which should resolve the matter on this image.--William S. Saturn (talk) 05:47, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you going to respond to this?--William S. Saturn (talk) 05:35, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Tickets are processed in the order they are received, and are collectively handled by the OTRS agents with access to the relevant permissions queue. The permissions note will be dealt with when it is next in the queue. LFaraone 21:34, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why are documents being demanded? The copyright holder clearly states that copyright was transferred to him.--William S. Saturn (talk) 19:09, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There's no indication that the copyright was transferred to the alleged holder. In order to protect creators' copyrights, Wikimedia Commons must be conservative. LFaraone 21:09, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There's the indication of the subject that exists. Why should there be "significant doubt"? --William S. Saturn (talk) 22:13, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to debate policy with you, and am not going to take any further action on this ticket. It will be in our queue, and someone else will get to it (as has already happened, twice). LFaraone 22:07, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw you reverted the picture above to the original with the metadata. Is there a reason for this? The owner of the photo actually asked me to remove the metadata which is why I had loaded a revised picture. I wasn't sure if there was a way to remove the first picture. Do I need to ask for the page to be deleted in order for the metadata to be removed? I was not aware the metadata needed to be there. Is this a rule? Thank you for the help. (Raasta123 (talk) 15:40, 6 July 2013 (UTC))[reply]

As I understand it, the work that was licensed to us contained the metadata. It is useful to know how the photo was taken, etc, and it is not obviously harmful to keep it there. I'm confused why the author requested it be scrubbed. LFaraone 21:11, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know either. The picture I loaded originally was the one that had been sent to me. It wasn't until I posted the photo and the metadata appeared on the page that I was asked about removing the information. I think they didn't realize just how detailed it would be? I then removed the metadata and reloaded the file. Any suggestions on what I should do? I can have the author email the permissions email again or just remove the photo? I haven't encountered this before so I'm a bit lost. Thanks again. (Raasta123 (talk) 21:34, 6 July 2013 (UTC))[reply]
We are not obligated to perform any redaction, and I wouldn't do so unless given a good reason. LFaraone 22:03, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you have a look at that image. You confirmed OTRS permission but there is still no valid license template. Thx. --JuTa 19:59, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
