Hi, today a f*** son of a b**** broke into my flat and stole my computer I mostly work with. He stole my external HD too, on which most of my picture were saved, especially my nature pics. That means I can't provide new processings of older pics and new pics for a while. Fortunatly he didn't found my camera. So long.... --LC-de (talk) 23:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Got my computer back. Most pictures were deleted already and my attempt to recover them failed. Maybe the backup HDD will be found some day with all the data, but I don't believe in such kind of miracles... :-/ --LC-de (talk) 14:30, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Please see my photo at: [1] I hope you know the name and want to tell me the name of it so I can upload it to wikipedia with a proper name. Thanks, --Orlovic (talk) 21:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's an Aizoaceae. A foto of a plant, that looks like the one on your image, is designated as Drosanthemum speciosum, but I'm not sure about that. I'm sorry that I can't help you further. --LC-de 21:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Voted to decline flower image[edit]

Hello, I noticed your picture was not evaluated yet, so I decided to take a look. I voted to decline your QI nomination, Crete Rockrose. I think it is a very pretty picture, and obviously you've taken some wonderful photos. However, it seemed to me that the main flower in the middle (with the visitor) has problems with exposure, so that much of the detail is washed out. Do you agree?--Skoch3 04:38, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. There only little details in the flower, in fact the only contrast are an outcome of light and shadows. I put it up to disussion. --LC-de 11:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you appear to have some knowledge of identifying fungi, do you have any idea whether my id for Image:Coral_fungus.jpg is correct? (As far as I can make out it is some kind of Ramaria species). Thanks, --Tony Wills 23:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sorry, but my knowledge is limited to middle european species. I think Ramaria would be a good tip (and I would agree with you), but for instance some Dacrymycetaceae build similar fruiting bodies. --LC-de 08:37, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cc-by-sa-2.0-de and cc-by-sa-3.0[edit]

Hello !

Regarding [2], if I may: while cc-by-sa-2.0-de and cc-by-sa-3.0 do grant the same liberties to the user, they are not exactly equivalent. Notably, Cc-by-sa-2.0-de inherits the German legal framework, which means that in case of litigation between you and a foreign user, German law would apply. This might be more comfortable for you if you are more accustomed to your local legal system than to others. It could also have an impact on the choice of where the litigation would physically take place.

I thus suggest that you give a second though on your opposition to putting Cc-by-sa-2.0-de on you image at Commons: not only is it not necessarily valid (since Free licences are irrevocable and the image was previously uploaded on de: under this licence), but it might not be in you own best interest at all.

In any case, thank you for your excellent work, and good continuation. Rama 14:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not opposing the CC-by-sa-2.0-de license, I don't wanted the double licencing, because I thought it's unnecessary. After careful consideration I think this is not only unnecessary, it's very tricky too. I provided the wikimedia foundation a pic with a 2.0-license on de.wikipedia.org. If someone else would had copied it to Commons, he has to put it under CC-by-sa-2.0-de or similar license. That's ensured by the license. But as the author I can provide the same pic a second time under different a completly different licence. According to the license terms and common german law I'm allowed to do so and this didn't touch the license of the first pic. The foundation can use the first picture under the first license further, but the pic was deleted. Adding a license template to the second template is only allowed in this sepecial case, because it doesn't violate the terms of my license (the CC-by-sa-3.0-unported), but it is unnecessary and unpolite in my eyes.
But you put me on some points I didn't recognize so far: the place for litigations and the applyability of german law. I think, I will publish my pics under the CC-by-sa-2.0-de in the future even on Commons. Thank you for that hint. --LC-de 18:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You didn’t "provide the wikimedia foundation", but you released an image on a website hosted by the foundation. Anyone may use it now under the terms of the given license. I used the work and reshared it under cc-by-sa-2.0-de, specifically on commons. I know that you may give any other license you might want to, but I didn’t remove the old license. Adding cc-by-sa-2.0-de to the description of a file which is only released as cc-by-sa-3.0 would be a copyright infringement, these licenses are not replaceable. Code·is·poetry 22:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, you simply add a template. That's no resharing and not the "gentle way" in my eyes as I wrote on your discussion page. Second I think the double licensing is not useful. It doesn't provide any additional rights to the licensee. As Rama remarked, it added some restrictions which can easily avoided by the use of the first license. This doesn't make any sense to me. --LC-de 22:56, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The adding of the template is no resharing, but by adding the template, commons reshares the file under this license. That's perfectly valid. I still don't understand why you feel insulted about this. As I and Rama stated, these licenses actually are different. Not as different as cc-by-sa-x.0 and gfdl-1.2, but still different. Ramas posting didn't imply that 2 is exclusively more restrictive than 3. Regards, Code·is·poetry 00:26, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Puppets[edit]

Hi Jörg. I'm sorry if you took this personal, it was not meant to be. A know you long enough to be a solid and honest contributor. I only in this case indicated potential problematic votes as has been done now and then recently. There were two different cases on your image indeed: One was a single support effort by this User:Albertgenii12. It was the only thing this user ever did on commons, so highly suspect. That one I cancelled. The other one (which now turned out to be your girl friend) also went straight to voting for FPC after getting a login id. While this is allowed, it is suspect behaviour. I just indicated, but didn't cancel. The latter case is referred to as a meat puppet (telling your friends to come and rig a vote). I perfectly understand that this was not at all you intention here. I'm sorry if I caused irritation. Yet some people have to keep a watchful eye all the time as we've had serious and real cases of vote rigging on FPC before. So I hope you understand nothing personal was meant here. Regards. Lycaon (talk) 19:45, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LC-de!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Comments IMO, such easy to take image should have higher resolution <end of unsigned posting>
Does this mean, it should not be QI, because it doesn't fit your personal feelings about resolution even if it meets the (objectivly measurable) size criteria? Do we start the same stupid discussion here as we have already in FPC? --LC-de 11:45, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's written on the guidelines, "reviewers may demand more (resolution)". It'd be nice to have a bigger image, but it's ok for me. I'll promote it, since the other comment is unsigned. --Kadellar 12:54, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you.--Steinsplitter (talk) 10:30, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze[edit]

Please could you consider removing File:Austerdalen LC0364.jpg as it doesn't appear to meet the challenge criteria. The theme is about going on holiday or being on holiday rather than just photos one took (of scenery) while on holiday. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 09:00, 24 August 2014 (UTC) Actually, I'm just going to remove the invalid photos now. Let me know if there is an problem. -- Colin (talk) 09:04, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, it seems there was a misunderstanding on my side concerning the criteria. Comparing it with the remaining photos I understand now, that it should had the word "holiday" in the name and/or description. Whatever, just delete it, I don't care. --LC-de (talk) 11:46, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
