BSicons[edit]

Hi, I have requested the deletion of File:BSicon exBLg.svg & File:BSicon exBLf.svg uploaded by you as they duplicated the already existent File:BSicon exBLe.svg & File:BSicon exBLa.svg. I know there is some confusion in the naming and design of walkway icons, but hopefully one day it will be solved... YLSS (talk) 22:53, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As you said there appears to have been confusion, I was trying to fix :/ - I would suggest you deleted the wrong ones, as these match the in-use versions being used. KylieTastic (talk) 12:42, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chugach and Copper River census area maps[edit]

Please see the comment I left at Talk:Valdez–Cordova Census Area, Alaska. The Census Bureau source which was cited multiple times on the Wikipedia side contains a note to refer to the state government for map data, and their website contains nothing to that effect, so basically no source has been provided to verify that these maps are something other than original research. Since the 2020 Census hasn't been finalized as I write this, it seems a little too early to spam this everywhere seeing as how nothing can be verified apart from the split itself. There are census subareas, which aren't acknowledged in the least in these projects due to the sources being cherry-picked, so I can dig deeper and perhaps figure it out, but that amounts to synthesis of sources rather than outright original research. So are there any other sources I'm missing because they weren't cited anywhere?RadioKAOS (talk) 18:16, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi RadioKAOS, thanks for pointing out that I had completely forgotten to add add the actual sources - I duly kicked myself! (Now updated)
Although I agree with your comment on Talk:Valdez–Cordova Census Area, Alaska that this explicitly says "The Census Bureau does not have maps" I would say this is a generic cover statement and in this case it's more than reasonable to assume that the boundaries will match the existing subdivisions. In many cases such existing subdivisions don't exist so yes it would not be OK for anyone to guess. I'm surprised you say "the 2020 Census hasn't been finalized" - is this something that is known to be still ongoing? It is only a month away, and although I guess such boundary issues do not need to be locked down before I find in unlikely. I would assume this issue is probably finalized, but just not publicised. So yes I agree this is not as set in stone as we would like, but I would not agree this is just original research or that it;s spamming anywhere, at the moment these are only used on en:List of boroughs and census areas in Alaska where is seams more correct to show the split, even if the maps are not yet finalised. Ok, i tot since the image is already on wikipedia, one can insert as his own work, but i understand the concept and will not repeat the same mistake again — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uncle Bash007 (talk • contribs) 10:08, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Special Request[edit]

Dear KylieTastic, would you pleaase go to wikipedia and on the page Agencia Federal de Investigación restore it back to its old title? It was re-directed into Federal Ministerial Police and Agencia Federal de Investigación is a defunct agency. -regards 890nino

Misidentified image[edit]

Hi Kylie - in this en:wp edit you relinked a misidentified image that I'd instructed Delinker to remove because it shows a different species to the one the page is about; now you have put back a photo of the wrong species on the page. Can you undo, please! If you want another image to replace it, you could use File:Indian cormorant (Phalacrocorax fuscicollis) 7.jpg, that is correctly identified. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 00:30, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Not sure why I missed correcting the description, thanks for doing that! Now that it has gone from all its former erroneous page uses, I can restore the redirect. - MPF (talk) 09:35, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

another misidentified image[edit]

Just noting that it looks like you're correct regarding this picture, based on the documentation. I haven't moved it yet because I'm not sure what the best method is to remove (not replace) an incorrectly identified image. Looking just above, it looks like MPF may know how. MPF, what is the process for setting up this sort of removal? — Rhododendrites talk21:07, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey Rhododendrites yes after I requested the move, I only then noticed how many places it is used (I have manually removed on EN WP, Simple EN WP , and Wikidata) and thought maybe a delete would be better to stop the other language projects keeping a bad image, or a move and no rename updates. It's a pretty bad mistake to be promoting the wrong image of a countries (ex) leader. It actually looks like more links to it have already been removed as there seams way less now. I'm sure you guys will figure out the best way to deal with this. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 21:15, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: It's actually tricky, there's no 'proper' method for removing a photo from a whole lot of pages other than one-by-one, though there is a work-around if one is quick off the mark with Commons Delinker, which I'll have a go with now - MPF (talk) 21:41, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites and KylieTastic: - success, I think! The trick is to de-tick the 'Try to replace usage immediately using your user account' box; that means Commons Delinker does the job. Since Commons Delinker is fairly slow to act on this, if one then removes the instruction the file move gives it (an admin perk!) before it does all the page changes, and also delete the redirect that the move creates (tick 'Temporary deletion for file renaming' as the reason), it tricks the Delinker into thinking the file has been outright deleted (as if it were a copyvio or whatever) and it removes the dead link from all the pages using it. Then in a day or two, the redirect can be restored after Delinker has deleted it from all the pages (so the file history is not lost). Cumbersome, but it works if one is quick. - MPF (talk) 21:59, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MPF: Aha. Thanks for the instructions (even if I can't carry them out myself). The best solution I came up with was just to move without leaving a redirect without trying to replace, assuming delinker would notice the break and just remove all the files. That seems less than ideal, but maybe a similar outcome. — Rhododendrites talk22:19, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites and KylieTastic: - that wouldn't work, as if a file is in use anywhere, you can't do a move without leaving a redirect, the relevant box is greyed out ;-) MPF (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Aha. Good point. — Rhododendrites talk01:55, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
