Copyright tag removal[edit]

I assume the part of this edit that removed the valid copyright tag was a mistake for the image I found in Category:Media without a license: needs history check today. Please be more careful when editing such image details because it could well have been deleted for lack of a licence except that I reviewed the history and found the problem. I've readded the tag but you want to review it. Ww2censor (talk) 11:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I found a few more with the same tag removal error. Check my contribution history if you want to review them. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 11:55, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ww2censor: Ooops, thanks for fixing those blunders. I see that my first such edit (diff) was ok, but I must have got confused in the others. Johnuniq (talk) 21:15, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problems. Hope all are fixed now. Cheers Ww2censor (talk) 23:29, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 04:16, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Johnuniq (talk) 04:24, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Template for Arab world[edit]

Hi Johnuniq!

Can you make a template for Arab world countries? like Template:Countries of Asia?--Rafic.Mufid (talk) 17:34, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Rafic.Mufid: I can do the technical stuff but decisions on names are needed. What would the template be called? Perhaps (per en:Arab world) Template:Countries of the Arab world?
Are the following the correct country names?
Johnuniq (talk) 23:31, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Correct list (According to the "constitution" of these states, however my point is not political). I think the term "Arab world" is prefered. --Rafic.Mufid (talk) 01:48, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Rafic.Mufid: Please say exactly what the name of the template should be. Then I can prepare a draft which you could correct. Johnuniq (talk) 05:57, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"Template:Countries of the Arab world". --Rafic.Mufid (talk) 11:03, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rafic.Mufid: The first version is at {{Countries of the Arab world}}. My user page has links to relevant modules/templates, as does the documentation displayed when viewing the template. Template:Countries of the Arab world/testcases displays the results of the following, for both the main and the sandbox templates.

  • {{Countries of the Arab world}}
  • {{Countries of the Arab world|prefix=:Category:}}
  • {{Countries of the Arab world|prefix=:Category:2012 in}}

The three results look very similar, but the links go to different pages. Please check the results and let me know of any problems. Johnuniq (talk) 04:25, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Check it[edit]

Hi John! i see an error on template:Countries of Africa (also Asia), on the name of Egypt, it's "Egypt syria" (what is that?!). can you check it?--Rafic.Mufid (talk) 21:02, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Rafic.Mufid: The name displayed for a country comes from its Wikidata item, so an edit at Wikidata can display junk. Looking at the history for d:Q79 shows that an IP changed the label to "Egypt syria" but was reverted an hour later. If you see a problem now, please try purging the page. If there is still a problem, let me know with a link to the page. Johnuniq (talk) 23:51, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Again an error/trolling[edit]

Hey Johnuniq, just look at this one i created now "Category:October 2007 Egypt photographs", the name of Egypt seem bold as "Mexico"!--Rafic.Mufid (talk) 23:46, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That was due to this vandalism at Wikidata. Someone reverted the vandal and I purged Category:October 2007 Egypt photographs so "Egypt" is now correctly shown. The way to find how to fix problems like that is to look at the first paragraph for any of the "Countries of" templates, for example, Template:Countries of Asia. It has advice to handle "name of a country is incorrect". Johnuniq (talk) 02:14, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Countries template with invalid parameters has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
