Thanks for uploading File:Zeyi.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Zeyi.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:19360129-2-1-5 hi obliq E Imba Kernale-c.tif, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:19360129-2-1-5 hi obliq E Imba Kernale-c.tif]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

File:Pano Dries Van Langenhove.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello Jnyssen, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Large mammals of Dogu'a Tembien.pdf

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

To undelete the file, the copyright holder must send a permission to the OTRS team.

Hello Jnyssen.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

My mistake. These images should not have been published. Jnyssen (talk) 04:18, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot claim that you are the copyright holder of other people's work. Those images could have been published if they were released to Commons by the people whose intellectual property it was. In addition to claiming other people's work as your own, you introduced proven falsehoods by saying that the bat soup video still was from China. It was from Palau. Please use more care in the future once you are unblocked. Enwebb (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Plain text characters in file names; clarifying copyright[edit]

Just a few suggestions regarding your recent image uploads:

  • The name after "File:" - which people using the image on other Wikimedia Foundation wikis (such as en.wikipedia) will have to use - should not have non-ascii characters such as "©" in them. The use of ordinary ascii characters is highly standard - all sorts of users will have easy access to typing these - but most users will have to make a special effort to insert a "©" character (I used the mouse to cut and paste, which slows down editing a lot). There's also no point having the copyright statement in the filename.
  • If someone has given you permission to upload images to which s/he holds the copyright, it's not enough to say that s/he "gave permission to publish"; you need to have checked with that person that s/he "gave permission to publish under CC BY-SA" (or whatever licence you select when uploading), and then you can safely and honestly state that s/he "gave permission to publish under CC BY-SA". The difference is huge: "OK by me to publish on Wikipedia" does not mean that the person understands the consequences, since publishing on the Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA effectively means publishing not just on Wikimedia Commons, but allowing anyone to republish the photo anywhere and to sell materials including that photo, within the restrictions of CC BY-SA.

For the first point, you should be able to change the photos' names using the "move" button near the "edit" and "history" buttons (depending what language you chose for your Commons interface, the name will be different; in French the button has the label "renommer") to more convenient names.

For the second point, you should contact the copyright holders and if they really agree to CC BY-SA (understanding that, for example, the Ethiopian federal government authorities could legally republish the photos on Borkena or Ethiopian News Agency or even sell the photos for a profit, while giving the purchasers the same freedoms), then you can edit the text here on the Commons pages for the photos to clarify that the authors agree to CC BY-SA.

(The photos themselves, are, of course, hugely important. It's difficult to overstate that. If photos had been published "live" during other genocides, then the genocides might have been stopped faster...) Boud (talk) 03:48, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mulugeta is well aware that these photos may be picked up by others. Usually they put them on Twitter or Facebook, and people pick it up without asking. I convinced him to give me a batch of photos, and place it on Wikimedia, so that it can be formally used in Wikipedia and hopefully picked up by some international journalists. So yes, he gave permission to publish under CC BY-SA. I will upload five more, after removing the copyright mention from the title. After that, I'll try to modify those published yesterday.Jnyssen (talk) 06:13, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Badme eritrean flag.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Unblock request granted

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request.

Request reason: "Most of the incriminated photos were my own photos"
Unblock reason: "Per discussion I grant you unblock. I also restored file:Coupe hydrogeologique Lantin Rocourt Vottem.jpg. But I do not mass restore your uploads, because most of them are taken from Twitter and violate copyright. If some of your deleted uploads are own work, then you can list them and I can restore them. You can also re-upload the files, if they are really your own works. Taivo (talk) 09:44, 26 April 2021 (UTC)"[reply]

Most of the incriminated photos were my own photos made with my own camera. Others were own drawings and maps. Why do you delete all that??? Jnyssen (talk) 07:33, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain how photos taken from Twitter and uploaded here are your own work Gbawden (talk) 07:49, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is true, there are photos taken from Twitter but it seems that I was induced in error by a small programme hosted on Wikimedia Commons and allowing "Twitter to Commons" conversion (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/twitter-to-commons/). Since the programme is hosted by Wikimedia commons, it seemed straightforward to implement it. Apparently that is not the case, so indeed those photos from Twitter need to be deleted.
But in addition, you have done a bulk delete on almost all my uploads over a year. Some are my own drawings, such as this one File:Coupe hydrogeologique Lantin Rocourt Vottem.jpg , others are photos taken with my own camera. For many of them, I could go there straight away and repeat the photo with my face on it, if you wish.
I would suggest that you undo the bulk upload and that I manually clean out those photos uploaded from Twitter.
In addition it would be helpful if the "Twitter to Commons" interface could be deactivated. Jnyssen (talk) 08:00, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Some Twitter users have released some or all of their files with a Commons-compatible license. Only those users' files may be uploaded here with "Twitter to Commons".   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:45, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am learning. But then, in such a case, the interface should only accept uploads from Twitter accounts with a Commons-compatible license. My suggestion again is that my files that have been deleted (numerous other files, besides those originating from Twitter), that my files be reinstated, and that I clean out all that comes from Twitter.Jnyssen (talk) 14:46, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I nuked some of the more suspicious looking files you uploaded. The problem I have is 1) That you were blocked and warned before but you didn't raise concerns or ask for help them 2) Not all your files have exif info which raises suspicions Gbawden (talk) 15:04, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Last time no need to ask for help since I acknowledged my mistake. And: with exif, you mean Metadata? Normally they should have (except maybe what comes from Twitter and it is clear now that those must be deleted). Jnyssen (talk) 15:29, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jnyssen, please explain: if unblocked, what will you do differently? And second question: how do you make difference between copyrighted and free files? Taivo (talk) 09:11, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll not use Twitter to Commons anymore, it is too tricky. And especially, it unblocked and my uploads are reinstated, I will clean it out and remove all the twitter uploads.Jnyssen (talk) 09:20, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Vehicle carrying Covid masks destroyed by drone attack during the war in Tigray in 2020 photo Mulugeta Gebrehiwot.jpg.

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Vehicle carrying Covid masks destroyed by drone attack during the war in Tigray in 2020 photo Mulugeta Gebrehiwot.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks for uploading File:Wurgesa map.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Comment from Weldemariam Seifu Gessesew[edit]

In the Figure of "Forest of Mennewe Libanos monastery"; it should be corrected and written as " Forest of Mennewe Aba Zelibanos monastery" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weldemariam Seifu Gessesew (talk • contribs) 10:49, 28 August 2021‎ (UTC)[reply]

File:Hate speech by wikipedian Dawit S Gondaria 2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Hello, this is my own work. I went near the church and recorded the sound of the church bells. May I access the file again to tag it with PD-self?
Public domain I, the copyright holder of this work, release this work into the public domain. This applies worldwide.
In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so:
I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.
