First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.

Coat of arms of the PR Mongolia[edit]

Hello Jam123 and nice to meet you. : ) And many great work you have done on national emblems! I was wondering if it is on the national emblem of PR Mongolia, the wheat is split around the star at the top, as [1], [2] and [3]. I was trying to do that but all that I could do is to draw something to cover it in Inkscape.

By the way, I found some images of PR Mongolia period from several Mongolian websites. Hope they will be helpful for your finding of the right color. : )

The image you used as the source file for the SVG was of horrible quality. A speaker of the persian language told me that the text is nearly unreadable. The text is بخارا خلق شورايی جمهوريتى ("Soviet People's Republic of Bukhara"), please replace it. A better source is [15].--Antemister (talk) 22:17, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Emblem of Tuva[edit]

Only one of the numerous emblems of the Tuvan Peoples' Republic is still missing (or one and a half, see [16]), File:Emblem of the Tuvan Peoples' Republic (1930-1903).svg [17]. Can you create it, using File:Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1926-1930).svg and File:Emblem of the Tuvan Peoples' Republic (1935).svg? The text is "PYGY TELEGEJNIŅ PROLETARLARЬ POLGAŞ TARLATKAN ARATTARЬ KATTЬƵЬŅAR!"--Antemister (talk) 22:19, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I hope this is good enough although the whreat is not fully historical. I don't know what you meant with "1930-1903" so i named it "Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1930) (2-5)". Thanks for the image! "(1930-1903)" was a typo, correct is "(1930-1933)". (I did extensive research on that topic) As I noted above, a variant of File:Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1926-1930).svg does exist [18][19] (left). I assume that this version (the only difference is the blue background and the the partly green wreath of wheat) was an earlier version of File:Emblem of the Tuvan People's Republic (1926-1930).svg, introduced in 1926. I already tried to create that variant by myself, see de:Datei:Wappen Tuwa 1930.svg. Feel free to improve it! Can you please replace the CC-zero licences by PD-Country tags?--Antemister (talk) 12:09, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Neuvostovaakuna[edit]

Todella hienoa työtä noiden vaakunoiden kanssa, erityisesti Karjalais-suomalaisen neuvostotasavallan vaakunaa odotin svg:ksi. Yksi pyyntö näin suomalaisena olisi, nimittäin File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Karelian_ASSR.png. Tuota Karjalan autonomisen sosialisten neuvostotasavallan vaakunaa ei ole kuin pienikokoisena png-versiona.
