Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open![edit]

Dear JMCC1,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

@JMCC1: there is a typo in the name: it should read "français" instead of francois. You might wish to rename the category. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 07:31, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JMCC1: only me again, sorry my mistake, I did not pay attention to the François: un nom commun qui désigne la langue française avant la réforme de l'orthographe française de 1835. Lotje (talk) 07:38, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JMCC1: the year of publication seems to be 1900 instead of 1899. Should the category be renamed? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 06:17, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cenotafio versus sepulcro[edit]

Saludos, --JMCC1 (talk) 12:16, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Groucho Marx?[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:1909_Tyee_-_Faculty_Foot.jpg&diff=380725304&oldid=380725018

¿Tienes una base para esto? En 1909, ¿habría alguien en Seattle sabido cómo parezca Groucho Marx? ¿Había actuado tan temprano en el oeste de los Estados Unidos? - Jmabel ! talk 03:02, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hola @Jmabel. Tienes toda la razón. Lo he revertido. Gracias por avisarme. Saludos desde Madrid, --JMCC1 (talk) 08:47, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

categories and subcategories[edit]

If I am looking to see if a certain text is here from a certain year (lets say the July edition of Lippincotts Magazine from 1874) should I also need to know that it is here as a pdf? How would I know that?

So, this is about File:Lippincotts Monthly Magazine-13.pdf which you moved from Category:1874 books to Category:1874 books PDF files. I think it is cruel to make someone searching for a text need to know the format. I also think that the file can and should exist in both categories.

I mention this so that if there is a flaw in my logic you might correct me.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 17:47, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @RaboKarbakian. Category:1874 books, contains many images. If you are looking for books to read, they are in PDF and djvu. If you are looking for images of books, they are in other categories, best regards --JMCC1 (talk) 18:09, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think that since the year has nothing to do with the format, that the document can reside in both the year cat and the cat for the pdf/year. Catting them to the farthest longest end is not the goal. Making them findable is. Once again, please check my logic for error.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 16:21, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
