Can you update the situation map?[edit]

Can you update the situation map? The government has lost control of the Hiran region and their attempts to install new people is failing has they old ones ran away and the new ones don't want to pick up the mantle.

There is more here.

I intend to do just that, as it seems things have stabilized. I wanted to get more information on Northland State first but I'll just go with the current boundaries in the north. --Ingoman 18:30, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Information[edit]

Hello Ingoman,

my name is Michael im from Germany and can you me say who you have all the Information over Somalia and with a programm you make the maps?? Oh and from where have you the information about the areas of the Insurgents in the map of somalia.

Thank you

Michael

Somali politics has more to do with clan politics than regional politics, however the two have parallels, as the clans control distinct areas of Somalia. To understand this further, I would recommend reading up on the Somali clan system.
Insurgent is not a terribly accurate term for the Somali Muqawama, as their warfare is not quite as asymmetric as the Iraqis. News reports of the presence of Muqawama forces in the south is often underplayed, but the reports are there. The areas have actually grown considerably since I drew the last map, as Muqtar Robow "Abu Mansoor" has extended his forces well into Hiraan by late January. --Ingoman 16:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

I had to re-upload the map of Somalia under a different name because you uploaded the 25th February situation OVER it. Image:Somalia January 1 2008.png Now it can be used, so please don't upload OVER THEM but archive with a different name. Thanks.--Orlovic (talk) 10:01, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A little note: the town of Guri Cel (Guriel) is under Islamic control, and as of yesterday, Badhan is under Somaliland control.--Orlovic (talk) 10:01, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are conflicting and extremely confused reports at the moment, but the verifiable information has Somaliland forces outside of Hadaftimo, and some delegation in Badhan (there was no fighting in Badhan, only at Hadaftimo).
Puntland and Somaliland have both issued statements, but I'm waiting for the Maakhir statement, which is in these cases the only one that actually bears some resemblance to reality. Guri Ceel was captured by anti-TFG clan militia. --Ingoman 17:38, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. According to your map, Puntland and Maakhir are now officially part of the Transitional Government. However, I have found no indication anywhere that Puntland recognizes the sovereignty of the Transitional Government, and the TFG doesn't even recognize Maakhir's existance apparently, so that would seem to disqualify them as being part of the TFG. Also, since when did the group that was known as "Hassan Turki" officially porclaim themselves as "Al-Qaeda in Somalia". Just a curious observer here.24.16.133.49 11:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The group was not called Hassan Turki, that is the name of the group's leader, Hassan Hersi, who is better known as Hassan Turki. He was declared al-Qaeda's leader in Somalia by al-Qaeda's #2 guy early last year, though I've been reluctant up to now to apply the label to his group, it is increasingly clear that it's an apt one. As to the TFG, groups in blue only have to support the TFG in this particular conflict to be thusly labeled. The clan based opposition to the TFG for instance are considered a faction but their only unifying factor is their opposition. Puntland is and has been for the last 2 years the primary in-country support of the TFG and remains the sole large faction in country that supports them. While they disagree on resource exploitation issues, and this may change their support early this spring as events unfold, Puntland provides most of the TFG's military muscle, though many Dulbahante and Warsangeli forces in the TFG army are from Maakhir and Sool as well. Since the war against the UIC ended in the new year of 2007, Galmudug has increasingly distanced itself from the TFG, though it has not specifically opposed it. This stance was once taken by the major clans in the country, though most of them (save for the Galmudug-affiliated clans) have taken an increasingly hostile stance towards it.--Ingoman 18:18, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somalia situation maps[edit]

Please, don't upload over the previous version: It becomes unusable. I've had to upload it again. Image:Somalia February 25 2008.png --Orlovic (talk) 11:14, 4 April 2008 (UTC) I need those old versions to use them here --Orlovic (talk) 11:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The map is of the current situation, and I will upload over it in the future as things change. For a static version, it's a better idea to reupload a particular revision. --75.157.132.165 20:29, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Your image[edit]

There was such content of image page before deletion: [[Category:Geography of Somalia]] [[Category:Maps of Regions in Somalia]] {{no license|month=May|day=21|year=2008}} --Ahonc (talk) 18:15, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you check to see if someone had maliciously edited out the license before you deleted it? You guys are making it really easy on the license-wiper guys with a political agenda... --Ingoman 18:19, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I restored history. License was removed by anon 2 months ago. You reuploaded image after it. Do you not see the empty page without license?--Ahonc (talk) 20:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I maintain a lot of content, I guess I didn't notice. I've noticed this trick by vandals to use admins to delete content for them, by just wiping out the license. You guys need to be more careful. --Ingoman 21:16, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why do we need to be more careful? What's with you? You didn't even check if your upload was successfull. Do you know how many images each day are uploaded without the necessary data to stay. Those deletions are done with the help of tools, because otherwise we would not be doing them anytime soon and we would have a backlog back to 2007. We are depending on the proper work of the uploaders. If they don't do their job (providing all the data), deletions happen. -- Cecil 21:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What are you talking about? A vandal ERASED THE LICENSE. --Ingoman 22:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since that vandal erased the licence, you once again reuploaded the image. The last edit was made by you and since the last image upload no vandalism had happened. Meaning: you where here, uploaded a new image, didn't check your image after uploading it and thus didn't notice that a few weeks earlier somebody removed part of the image description. Check the version history. The vandalism happened in March. On May 21st you uploaded a new image, this time without a licence, so a bot tagged it and notified you. Since you didn't add the missing licence for your last upload the image was deleted. Ahonc didn't delete the vandalized image, he deleted your last upload where you haven't added a licence. -- Cecil 08:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
