Your renaming[edit]

I notice that you renames images from Tamil names to English names. But these renames do not meet rules (see p.2 in section What files should not be renamed?). Commons is multilingual project, so English language IS NOT preferable for file names, You should not do such renames only because names are not English. Even though it is not a requirement, I would like to inform you that I used one of your images - namely one of your mouth - in an article about energy drinks on the Dutch Wikipedia. The subject at hand, dental erosion, may be caused by drinking excessive amounts of energy drinks and your picture nicely shows this consequence. Just my doubt.

It seems to me that South Africa should be considered as country of origin (even if it is a simultaneous publication in India and RSA) for this book. At least the note at the bottom of page 4 (looking to me to be the publisher info) and the Editorial note on page 18 suggest that. The place the book was printed is irrelevant here IMO.

And, if South Africa is the country of origin, can we consider the Tamil Nadu government nationalzation valid for this book as South African legal system should be considered?

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
To perform file name swaps.
When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. Pronunciation file categories[edit]

Does it really matter what was used to record pronunciation? I think Language pronunciation categories or their further detalization should be used. Tool-related ones are optional and even that could be replaced by Structural Data property. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:17, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
