Please do not forget to add your images to page or category. For example in Category:Jupiter (planet).

Probably some of them already exist on Commons in better quality. Please mark your duplicates for deletion using {{Redundant|[[:Image:<Better image name here>]]}} template. See Image:Europa, moon of Jupiter, NASA.jpg as example.

Hi - please note that the commons do not allow images under fair use, nor images that are restricted to noncommercial or nonderivative use. The above image will thus be deleted, sorry. -- Duesentrieb 18:07, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Broccoli images[edit]

I think Commons became too broccolized :-) Please reduce number of none-principal variations. --EugeneZelenko 03:09, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

;) I thought someone might want to some do extensive documentation on Broccoli from all points of view :) Helix84 11:02, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, you placed them in the wrong category, there was an existing category called: Category:Brassica oleracea Italica. They are too many images of the same kind that i got frustrated. --Cacuija 21:18, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading images on Commons.

Please add your images to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example Category:Gray's Anatomy

Picasso[edit]

You claim that Pablo Picasso's works are public domain but Picasso has not been dead for 70 years. That is what is relevant in the countries where Picasso published his works. Also, you claim that Image:PicassoandFriends.jpg is public domain. This is entirely dependent on who the photographer is, where it was first published and if he/she has been dead for 70 years (not likely?). Thuresson 08:00, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I just uploaded the file. I don't claim anything, that's why I listed full info on source (en:Image:PicassoandFriends.jpg uploaded on 19:40, 10 Nov 2004 by en:user:JillandJack) and that's why the line "Subject to disclaimers." is there. Helix84 13:54, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Please read the upload form carefully. By uploading, you assert that the images has a good license - you are supposed to check that before uploading, you are responsible for the publication here. Any ionformation you put on the upload page is indeed your claim, unless you make it clear that it is a quote of something someone else said. "Subject to disclaimers" does not mean you can upload whatever you want. -- Duesentrieb 16:54, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Seems you're right. With the disclaimer, Wikipedia denies responsibility, but not the responsibility of contributors. I'll take care next time. I think I'll stop uploading any images I didn't draw myself, since I've had only pains with it. Do what you see fit with those Picassos. Helix84 01:17, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate category and optionally place the images on topic pages (galleries), or do both (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. (PS- video files should definitely be put in Category:Video, but they need a category that describes their content as well!) pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:51, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NASA movies?[edit]

Are you sure those movies are made by NASA? Pat Hartigan doesn't work for NASA, and I didn't see the copyright info on his page. The animations are probably in the public domain, but can you tell me why you said they were from NASA? --Keflavich 02:57, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Which movies are you talking about? I do a lot of transwiki of different images, I don't remember any movies, though. Helix84 10:51, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, should have specified. Ex: [1]--Keflavich 23:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it was just another transwiki from en:. Source is specified, I didn't verify it. You can do what you feel is right to do with it. Helix84 00:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thank you for uploading your files to Wikimedia Commons. There seems to be some license information missing regarding this particular file, however. Could you please fix this? Thank you--Orgullomoore 05:45, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is license information. Helix84 06:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I believe this was due to a bug in my programming. Please accept my apologies.--Orgullomoore 18:25, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commenting out images[edit]

Hi, the images that I'm commenting out are mostly not going through VFD but are being speedy-deleted without a vote as copyright violations. (They're listed in Category:Against policy.) I actually delete the images immediately after commenting them out, so there's not much for Commons Ticker to report on.

While I have your attention, could you do me a favor? Could you go to User:Pfctdayelise/Translations and add Slovak translations of both the one-line edit summaries and the "A./B." dialogs to be used on pages? Up till now I've been using Czech when making comments at sk:, because the page doesn't have any Slovak translations. Thanks! Angr 21:47, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Helix, sorry to butt in here. I noticed your comments on Angr's talk page.

The "commenting out" is a procedure we developed to stop broken links appearing in wiki articles when Commons images are deleted, and also to explain why the image is being removed (so you know it's not just a random anonymous image-removing vandal).

One reason for commenting out the image rather than deleting it altogether is because sometimes the image is kept. Then it can be easily added again. Also the image often has useful formatting info like size and caption. It's easier to simply substitute another valid image if it's still there in a comment.

The CommonsTicker is quite new as you know. Do you feel that because the CommonsTicker is being used, it's not necessary for Commons admins to remove images from use in your project now? (Of course, images that were tagged prior to CommonsTicker and/or images that are speedy deleted directly by admins, not tagged, will still have to be removed, since you won't know about them.)

I will be interested to know your answer. We will be happy to have one less project to check. It will mean that you/your wiki will have to take full responsibility for removing those images though... no blaming Commons!

Let me know what you think. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:04, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can speak just for myself, not the whole sk:, but I'm the one who currently works the most with images and CommonsTicker. I don't think commenting has any advantages over removing (with a propper edit summary) and the disadvantage is, that such comments are left hanging there.
With removing, you have one less operation to do and to me it seems the same to remove the comment or copy the image back from your diff.
As with commons admins doing the work, I think we currently don't have enough people to take care of it ourselves, so we're happy you do that. CommonsTicker provides us information and a checking mechanism.
If acting differently for our wiki would cause you problems, feel free to do it the old way. ~~helix84 09:14, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah...I think it probably would just be a pain if every wiki has a certain preference and wants us to remember them all. Not all Commons admins follow the procedure I outlined, so it's kinda hard to know exactly who does do it. Just one last point; if you have a very frequently edited article, uncommenting is easier than checking the diff. If they use the standard edit summary/translation it should be reasonably easy to identify though. Nyeh... it's pretty half and half. pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:36, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
