Hello

I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.

Cheers,

--Touzrimounir (talk) 22:17, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, no time for organizing and/or attending. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:00, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Template:Wikidata image

Hi. User:IndianWikipedians asked me to review their user page. Indeed I wish to help people but am not qualified in several things. Now, if you look at their page you will see a "red" Template:Wikidata image. When I click into that, I see that you have deleted this template last month. I tried to eliminate that red link from the said user page without any success. Do you have the tools to do that personally, or have anything to recommend to @IndianWikipedians: ? Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 15:16, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Deletion requests

Hello Hedwig in Washington, can you link me the deletion requests of File:Märchen Mädchen Logo.png and File:Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau Logo.jpg? PD-text-logos are not obvious copyright violations and should be discussed by community. Especially Märchen Mädchen Logo, I remember I checked the file some time ago and it seemed completely fine.--Sakretsu (talk) 09:00, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

IMHO they are not OK but above Com:TOO. You can request undeletion @ Com:UDR. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 09:10, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Per COM:TALK#How to keep a two-way conversation readable, put a notice on your user talk page that you'll reply there unless they ask otherwise. Do this for conversations that other people start. Otherwise I expect messages back and forth between user talk pages as it happens in other wikis :-) Anyway, thank you very much for the links!--Sakretsu (talk) 10:57, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Hedwig, I didn't know about this. Sometimes, I mean recently, it seems this kind of PD licence is accepted. Where do I go in WM to read about this licence and understand the problem (which I assumed had been solved, I mean these licences were now accepted). Regards, Eddaido (talk) 04:13, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

@Eddaido: Hi Eddaido! THe Flickr-PD-Mark is a pain in the butt. There have been some lengthy discussions over the PD-Mark. Here are a few infos:

Unlike CC0 or the other Creative Commons licenses, the Public Domain Mark is not a legal instrument; there is no accompanying legal code or agreement. Instead, the Public Domain Mark is a tool that allows anyone to mark a work that they believe to be free of known copyright restrictions. However, it does not say why the image is in public domain and this part has to be added by the user.

— Template Flickr-public domain mark, click on ->Reasons why PDM is not acceptable.
Hope that helps? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:29, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

I feel offended!!!

You deleted the photos that I personally took because "I have no proof that I took them"? How do you think I can prove it to you? Do you want pictures with me on them to see if I visited these cities? I uploaded the same photos (over 10 of them) to the forum "Skyscrapercity" in Serbian, so yes, they can already be found on the Internet. I am a big fan of the stadiums and I take a pictures of them in every city I visit, and now you've deleted my photos and spit on my efforts to make this site better. Thank you but not thank you!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Драган Јањушевић (talk • contribs) 18:48, 15. Okt. 2017‎ (UTC)

I am sorry if I made a mistake. Photographs of stadiums uploaded here are more often than not copyright violations. Since your photographs are on the web, Commons requires that you sent your permission. Please see OTRS on how to do that. I can't read any Serbian, if you use English in your permission and post the ticket number here, I'll go ahead an process the ticket asap. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:11, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

CM670

First off none of the images of I added are copyrighted and there is absolutely no evidence to even support that they are as you claim “copyrighted”. Secondly you must prove that they are as you alleged copyrighted under law. Thirdly you do not have the right to remove alleged images till it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the alleged images are copyright infringed. Lastly if you do make a decision to remove images without proving the above is copyright infringed I will report you to a who ever is above your “position”. Thank you and please take into deep consideration what is at hand before making any and all decisions. CM670 (talk) 00:09, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

@CM670: Here we go:
1) I challenge your assumption of no copyright. It highly unlikely that you took a photograph dated 1909. Just an example.
2) It is the duty of the uploader to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the information supplied are correct and that the uploaded media indeed complies with our rules.
3) As a sysop on this project I actually do have the right and duty to tag and delete obvious copyright violations.
3a) The board for complaints is here: Com:AN/U
Please read the rules before making unsubstantiated claims. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:23, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
Addendum: If you try the same vandalizing here as you did on the EN-wiki, your account will be blocked. Racial slurs don't fly here at all. The EN-wiki is a little softer there, Commons as an international project is not. Just FYI. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:35, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Transferred from further up: You claim the images I own are not mine so please show the evidence to me that supports that and prove it beyond a reasonable doubt as provided under law. Thanks. CM670 (talk) 00:13, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

There is this thing called Public Domain the 1909 photo is found in the Troy library and is under public domain. Secondly I never claimed to take the photo in 1909 not a single time you claimed that I did. Next it is not my responsibility to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the photo is not copy righted it is in fact yours. So the question is still on for you to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the images are copy righted. CM670 (talk) 00:38, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

On top of that you do not have the right to delete any image at your pleasure at least not in this country. And my assumption on the 1909 photo is not an assumption it’s a fact. CM670 (talk) 00:40, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

First of all, please learn how to reply and don't just find any spot and start typing. Next time I am not cleaning your mess up and just revert it. Thank you very much.
Provided under law? Don't you understand? It is YOUR job to establish provenance.
Of course youi claimed ownership of the 1909 file. Evidence here: your upload. I actually fixed the mess you made and added the proper license and source together with general cleanup. Evidence: diff
With in this country you mean the US? You think I am in where? Timbuktu? What a laugh. Never bothered to find out where Washington is, hmmm? And yes, I have a) the right and b) the duty to delete copyright violations. That's why I am a sysop here, besides other things. Read up on the rules. NOW: Get your story straight and don't waste my time by claiming you know the IP-laws. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:51, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Progint: Notification about possible deletion

Hi, photos you are mentioned in my talk page are all places in my country - Azerbaijan and they are not copyrighted,i.e. in public domain. Some of them tooked by myself. I soonly will put copyright tags of my country. --Progint (talk) 09:34, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

@Progint: Sorry, this is not correct. The places may be public domain, the photographs are not. The photographer holds the copyright for 50 years p.m.a. See Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory#Azerbaijan The photographs you created are of course your property. Which ones did you say you created yourself? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:25, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
@Hedwig in Washington: Regarding the photos of which you mentioned, they are posted on the sites that advertise our country and its attractions, and these photos are open to all.

The reproduction, broadcasting or communication to the public by cable of architectural works, photographic works and works of fine art permanently located in a public place shall be permissible without the author's consent and without payment of remuneration, except where the presentation of the work constitutes the main feature of the said reproduction, broadcast or communication to the public by cable, if it is used for commercial purposes.Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory#Azerbaijan

The first time I wrote to you, I wrote that I would put the copyright tags of our country. Please, guide me how can I do it correct. Thanks in advance.--Progint (talk) 09:16, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
@Progint: The problem is, you didn't take the photographs. FOP or not doesn't matter at all. You didn't do the work, it's not yours to give away. Available on the internet doesn't mean that it is free, there is still a copyright attached. You quoted from the FOP laws, let me remind you that

... except where the presentation of the work constitutes the main feature of the said reproduction, broadcast or communication to the public by cable, if it is used for commercial purposes.

is a restriction we do not allow on Commons. Commercial use MUST be allowed. There is no tag for your country that would allow you to upload photographs that are not yours. See Com:CT for examples of licenses you can use for your own photographs. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:48, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Possible copyright infringement

Dear Hedwig,

I have uploaded new (different photos) than those deleted but yes, I need these images on these pages because 1. I am the author of these articles myself, I am the author of the images and have placed them into Wikipedia Commons to give copywriter permission. 2. I filled out the Wikipedia Commons upload form and gave permission. Since these are my articles and my images would placing this

Public domain I, the copyright holder of this work, release this work into the public domain. This applies worldwide.
In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so:
I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.

help? I am 73 years old and computer hip but not an expert on Wikipedia. It would seem I have done everything to prove who I am: My email address I show on my web site http://jerryrosspittore.com has it displayed there. I am not trying to defy Wikipedia rules, I have designed my articles to contain these images and am puzzled why those deleting are keeping pulling my images from the many articles I have authored when I have placed each disputed image into Wikipedia Commons. I notice that when they are deleted from my articles they are also deleted from the Commons. Can you point me to a tutorial or assistance regarding how to get my images protected from deleteers?

file deletion støj.jpg and Emilie Sannom photos

Dear Hedwig,

You have taken it upon yourself to delete the file called støj.jpg. The link you use regarding this is from another film entirely. I am a bit confused here. Can you elaborate on your decision? Why do you add a link from another film?

I also have a bit of a hard time finding out where exactly I can add more metadata on the files you have put up for deletion in order for them to remain on wikimedia commons. Can you help me out here? Thanks.

With regards to the remainder of files I have uploaded, there is no known author on any of the photos of Emilie Sannom. She died in 1931 and all her portraits and stills from her production is in the care of The Danish Film Institute with no known provenience. I am not sure how I can prove this to the community and I am hoping you can help.

Thanks again. All the best, Madeleine — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madsch (talk • contribs)

@Madsch: I took a look and here we go:

støj.jpg: Deleted because there's no author given, only "Frame fra filmen" You need to name the author of the movie, and have some explanation why the CC license applies. The link might be a mistake, I deleted 200 or 300 files that day.
Sannom,Emilie - Tombstone 0001.tif seems to be a victim of circumstance :-). To make sure I get this right: You took the photograph of the tombstone?
The metadata (author, date, source) goes in the corresponding filed inside the information template.

Example: File:Sannom,Emilie - Portrait 0001.tif states:

  1. description=
    English: Picture of Emilie Sannom
    Dansk: Billede af Emilie Sannom
  2. date=2013-01-02
  3. source=Det Danske Filminstitut
  4. author=Det Danske Filminstitut

  1. The description is OK.
  2. The date is not correct, Emilie Sannom died in 1931.
  3. The source is not sufficient, it is either online available or a scan from a photograph in the archive of the DFI.
  4. The DFI is not the author of the photograph.
  • The license is probably not correct either. But that is not the biggest issue, CC-0 nearly hits the mark. Just a technicality I assume.
Let me know how I can help. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:53, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

File:Ancien logo de centrale paris.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Zagone page due to unclear copyright/ not being free. When i was uploading them i attempted to make it clear that i had permission from the owner to post them, but clearly i need to adjust a few details. how do i make that clear?

Thanks,

@Cauldroncakes: I checked these three files right now:
For none of them is a permission by the author / copyright holder visible. Same for the rest of the files. You need permission from every single photographer to upload them here. You find the how-to here: OTRS. Only your own work can be given away by you, the photographs you uploaded are not your property. Hope it helps a bit, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:24, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Copyright violations

Dear Hedwig, I am so disappointed about your decision. Technically, those pictures were mine - some of them are really mine while the other pictures were given to me by some photographers. It's so hard for some users because they don't give any chance to explain and they just delete it instantly without any long notice. Haroldok (talk) 05:11, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Haroldok. I am sorry to hear that, fact of the matter is, you can't upload and license media that is not yours. There is no exception. If the copyright owners send permisson to us, we could keep the photographs legally. Otherwise we have to delete whatever is not yours. Since we have a mix of your and other peoples work we require you to send permission to us as well. If you do that quickly, we can resolve this issue promptly. Please see OTRS for more information. Copyright Violation of Files

Dear Mr. Hedwig,

This is regarding few of the files that I had uploaded and editors of wiki had them deleted due to my carelessness. It was unintentional though and my sincere apologies for this error from my end. To be honest, I'm still trying my best to get a proper hang of using Wikipedia and adhering to its rules because of my interest in articles, writing and editing. I assure you that I will henceforth take care and be more responsible while making edits and making uploads.

I wish to take help from you in uploading an image to the article "Sharon Joseph", which was created by me. I found an image in Wikimedia Commons with the following link: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sharon_Joseph.jpg First of all, am I allowed to make use of this image? And secondly, if I am allowed, can you please guide me on how may I go about uploading the same to the aforementioned article?

I hope for a positive revert from you. Thank you very much in anticipation. kalepradip (talk) 11:11, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

@Kalepradip: As a rule of thumb, if you didn't create the photograph, it can't be uploaded here. There are several exceptions to this rule, tho. YOu have to read a little about our rules, see Com:L, Com:First steps. The picture you linked here is a copyright violation also. I am sorry. BUT! On the EN-wiki you can upload © content under the fair use clause. More info over there: w:en:Wikipedia:Non-free content. Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 11:26, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

@Hedwig in Washington: Thank you so much for the revert. I shall go by what you have adviced. Kind Regards, kalepradip (talk) 03:01, 26 October 2017 (UTC) Kalepradip (talk) 15:01, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Deleted DRL Files

Hey Hedwig,

My name is Ryan Gury and I work for the DRL in New York City. These are my files and owned by our company. I took the pictures and created the drones in the pictures. Please put them back.

My linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryangury/ My company: www.drl.io — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgury (talk • contribs) 14:02, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

@Rgury: Hi! Since all this is available online, our procedures require that you send permission. Please see OTRS for instructions. Also, please have a peek at Com:Toys. The drones probably fall under the category of toys and are likely not allowed on Commons. Thanks! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 14:18, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Triumph model cars

Hello Hedwig,

I remember we talked some time ago about deletion requests of Triumph model cars, which were granted, allowing you to destroy Category:Triumph model cars. As I checked Category:Triumph automobiles today, I spotted a number of model cars added there. Hence I decided to recreate a category for the models ; since they were not properly categorized IMHO. Feel free to check them, but please notify me if you open new deletion requests. Thanks, Akela NDE (talk) 15:29, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Well... allowing to destroy sounds like I singlehandedly deleted the category on a whim. Com:Toys still applies, at least until the courts in the US change their opinion. :-( --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 15:31, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Hello again,
sorry if my "allowing to destroy" expression seemed offensive, it was not intended as so. (Although mostly fluent, I'm not a native English speaker, so please forgive these kind of little… glitches? from me.)
Actually, I told you about the category as a matter of courtesy since I was re-creating it after your deletion it. But I'm still not sure about the applicability of COM:TOYS to models of cars; as you may have noticed, there are lots of them in Category:Models of automobiles, most of which have not been kept after a deletion vote, although this is the case for some (see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Scale model of a police car based on an FSO Warszawa M20-57 or 200 of Milicja Obywatelska.jpg, kept twice; there probably are others.). IMHO we should rather open a global vote on the admissibility of car models than mass-vote them in categories. Especially since I saw "ours" were mass-deleted without a vote, which I find a bit disturbing.
Cheers, Akela NDE (talk) 07:33, 27 October 2017 (UTC)
PS: will be without a 'net access for a few days, so sorry if I cannot continue this conversation immediately Clin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akela NDE (talk • contribs)
No problem, I didn't take any offence. I hear worse every day from other users. I agree that we should discuss this again. Quite frankly, I don't think it will change the outcome. The US-law is pretty clear about this (as far as I can interpret), model cars aren't utilitarian objects and therefore are subject to ©. It's a bit strange tho. The car company takes years and plenty of $/€ to design a car, has no real power over it, and everybody can make a model of it that's ©. That's law for you, doesn't make much sense. Anyway, maybe there's a way out in a bigger discussion. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:52, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Eine Frage

Liebe Hedwig (I assume 'Hedwig' to be a female name even that you are using all Babels the male form),

Also besser Kategorie anlegen. Meine kleine Meinung dazu. :-)))) -- Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 04:06, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

hello hedwig! I have another file that I think I actually did right this time? If not, I am still determined to learn how to do this stuff. Could you check it for me? File:Rockaginstracismleaflet.jpg ... is another leaflet I made myself... unfortunately, you can tell. (LOL) I literally used a magic marker on the lower half, but we needed the leaflets IMMEDIATELY and you know how that is. AWB

Just a question. I was wondering if I can request AWB access. I wish to repetitively use it for something like Category:The Bundled Benefits of Soil Health and Category:Local Foods Conference, where they all need to be renamed. I honestly dislike having to manually go to each of them and click edit, then do it. It would be nice to do it a bit faster using it. Artix Kreiger (talk) 02:56, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@Artix Kreiger: The forum to request AWB access is here. Jon Kolbert (talk) 04:13, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
@Jon Kolbert: , I got denied by Hedwig the first time because the request was invalid. I was putting this reasoning before him before I formally request it again. Artix Kreiger (talk) 12:27, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
@Artix Kreiger and Jon Kolbert: E.g. File:20140918-NRCS-LSC-0372_(15268207156).jpg is not a candidate for a bot-like rename request. The filenames are almost as nondescript as they have been before. Most times renaming request are not bot-tasks but tedious work that need to be done with a real brain, not a script. Just my two cents. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 16:34, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Pictures of Llanquihue

Hello. I am a Spanish wikipedia editor from many years ago, here https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario:Smoken_Flames

I am recently editing an article called Llanquihue in the Spanish wikipedia. I have evidence and can prove that all images that I have uploaded are my own creation or I have permission to use it and distribute it under the license that Commons uses.

  1. Files are here: File:Fotomontaje del Plan de Infraestructura Verde 2.jpg
  2. File:Fotomontaje del Plan de Infraestructura Verde.jpg
  3. File:Monitoreo de ph en Llanquihue.jpg
  4. File:Monitoreo de ph.jpg

  7. File:Monitoreo de humedales.png
  8. File:Plan de Accion Medioambiental.png
  9. File:Humedales urbano de Llanquihue.png

The mistake I made was not uploading using the Commons uploader and uploaded from wikipedia.--SmokenFlames (talk) 03:50, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

The Structured Commons team at Wikimania 2017

Two new people have been hired for the Structured Data on Commons team. We are now complete! :-)

  • Ramsey Isler is the new Product Manager of the Multimedia team.
  • Pamela Drouin was hired as User Interface Designer. She works at the Multimedia team as well, and her work will focus on the Structured Commons project.
Partners and allies
  • We are still welcoming (more) staff from GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) to become part of our long-term focus group (phabricator task T174134). You will be kept in the loop of the project, and receive regular small surveys and requests for feedback. Get in touch with Sandra if you're interested - your input in helping to shape this project is highly valued!
Research

Design research is ongoing.

  • Jonathan Morgan and Niharika Ved have held interviews with various GLAM staff about their batch upload workflows and will finish and report on these in this quarter. (phabricator task T159495)
  • At this moment, there is also an online survey for GLAM staff, Wikimedians in Residence, and GLAM volunteers who upload media collections to Wikimedia Commons. The results will be used to understand how we can improve this experience. (phabricator task T175188)
  • Upcoming: interviews with Wikimedia volunteers who curate media on Commons (including tool developers), talking about activities and workflows. (phabricator task T175185)
Development

In Autumn 2017, the Structured Commons development team works on the following major tasks (see also the quarterly goals for the team):

  • Getting Multi-Content Revisions sufficiently ready, so that the Multimedia and Search Platform teams can start using it to test and prototype things.
  • Determine metrics and metrics baseline for Commons (phabricator task T174519).
  • The multimedia team at WMF is gaining expertise in Wikibase, and unblocking further development for Structured Commons, by completing the MediaInfo extension for Wikibase.
Stay up to date!

Warmly, your community liaison, SandraF (WMF) (talk)

Surface Family

Can you tell me the user who uploaded the family image? I'd like to contact this individual so that the right licensing information can be placed in the image. WikIan (talk) 05:31, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@WikIan: Which file are you talking about? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 16:11, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought you deleted this image. WikIan (talk) 07:40, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
@WikIan: No problem at all. It is always helpful if you give a link to the file in question. Either url or wikilink, doesn't much matter. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 18:56, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

The deleted picture is my own.

Hi! You have deleted my picture titled Hridayesh.jpg I have personally clicked this picture and am the owner of this picture. What do I do to prove it and use it. Aditimehrotra1987 (talk) 19:14, 3 November 2017 (UTC))11-03-2017 15:14

@Aditimehrotra1987: The picture is available all over the web. Our rules require that you send permission to OTRS. Cheers! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:16, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

The one on the internet is a slightly different picture clicked at the same time as this one. and even that has been provided to those websites by me. How do I prove that? how do I send permission to OTRS? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditimehrotra1987 (talk • contribs) 20:47, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@Aditimehrotra1987: CLick here -> OTRS and follow the instructions. C(_) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 21:27, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

File deletions

Hello, @Hedwig in Washington: . I couldn't help but notice that you have been marking many of my uploaded Files for deletion & posing on my talk page about it. I would just like to notify you that many of the Files that you are marking for deletion are, in fact, original and certainly not plagiarized. As for the Files that are not of my creation, for all of the "Donald Weir" I have either taken them myself or obtained permission to use them from its creator. Although I may have abused my Copyright infringement in some cases, I would think that this would be unnecessary and/or an abuse of power. I await your response. Учхљёная (talk) 22:40, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

You said it yourself: you plagiarized. That's not acceptable. Period. How are we supposed to believe anything you claim when we find you uploading unfree media? There's no abuse of anything on our part, power or otherwise. We are bound to the IP laws, even you. Further, selfies and private snapshots are often out of project scope. Please make sure that you operate within the law, within OUR rules, and within OUR project scope. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:21, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
@Hedwig in Washington: Then tell me, for the "plagiarized" material, I had cited an external source and explicitly stated that it was not my own. Therefore, how is that plagiarism by Commons standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Учхљёная (talk • contribs) 11:17, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
See Commons:First steps, Commons:Licensing, Commons:Project scope/Evidence, Commons:Copyright rules, etc pp. When in doubt, you can always ask at the Commons:Village pump/Copyright before uploading. I am not always available and may not answer for a few days, but you can always leave me a message here as well. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 18:54, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

@Hedwig in Washington: One more thing. Do you permit me to reupload some of the Donald Weir photos if I provide proper sources? I was planning to use them for a future page on the English Wikipedia. It would be greatly appreciated, not just be me, but also the man himself, if you would abide. Thank you! Учхљёная (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

IT has nothing to do with me permitting. If it is not free media, we can't host it here. Maybe you can upload on the En-wiki, they have a fair use clause. You need to ask there, we have no influence on other projects from here. Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:41, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Restore the media files I have uploaded

Dear Hedwig, Please restore the media files I have uploaded and those were deletd by you. I understand that you got permission from ram@ccba.in who was the cipyright owner of the work by email. No I have express permission and the deleted works should be restored. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kunal rakshit (talk • contribs) 09:52, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

@Kunal rakshit: Please have the copyright owner sewnd permission to us. Do not forward us any emails from your contact, those are regularly rejected. Instruction are here: OTRS. Also, please read Com:Scope and verify that your uploads are indeed within project scope. Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 17:43, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

The email containing the permission for Christopher Benninger images are already mailed to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from the copyright holder Ramprasad Akkisetti from this email id (Redacted) Those images should be restored back. Kunal rakshit (talk) 11:34, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Kunal Rakshit

@Kunal rakshit: All in due time. OTRS has to process the email and, if everything checks out, the media is restored. The backlog is huge, currently 77 days. Please have a little patience. Thanks! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 20:10, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
