Please copy all information from original image (author, uploader (if not the same), description) when you move it to Commons from other Wiki. I could guess that this image is work of Morwen :-) --EugeneZelenko 14:09, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please be accurate with license tags when you move images from other wikis. Original image was marked as GFDL. And you can't apply PD-self to works of other people. --EugeneZelenko 16:44, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Erekle_II_of_Georgia_coat_of_arms.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Urartu Maps[edit]

Could you provide some detail on the origin for the Urartu maps which you have uploaded?. (Recently I drew similar maps for Urartu article in Russian, and I based them on Piotrovski book. My maps seem to be quite different -- I'd like to find out whose source is more recent and reliable) Thanks. EvgenyGenkin 12:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You better discuss this with User:Jolle (ca), as he was the one who originally uploaded them on the Catalan wikipedia. --Hardscarf 01:21, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Hardscarf 13:29, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hello there and thank you for your message,

I find it hard to believe that these are really free image, they almost look as if taken from a website. Do you speak Dutch? Could you maybe get in touch with that original uploader and ask him maybe where he took those images to make it plausible so that information can be added? Sjablonen updaten[edit]

--Hardscarf 12:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SVG maps of Russia[edit]

I don't know about others, but the reason why I didn't use the svg maps was because I was not aware you made the whole set :) Of course, feel free to replace existing pngs with the svgs. As for the colors, I, honestly, don't care either way. Pink was the color used by Morwen on her very first map of Russia, so I guess it just carried over to other maps. I really don't see a good reason to change the colors of your svgs to pink just so they match the old versions; it'd be a waste of time, in my opinion. I trust if someone has a problem with new colors, they'll let you know :)

All in all, thanks for the nice set of svgs! It's about time someone cared to convert these maps. I also hope you are going to stick around to update them in future, because I have no experience with vector graphics whatsoever :) Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:32, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the day translation[edit]

Hello, Thank you for changing the dutch text for December 8, my text was probably not any good at all since I don't really know that language. I noticed that you changed the links so they link away from Commons. The reason I used links to Commons is that Pictures of the day are used on commons Main page, and I think it is good to use the links to lead visitors to more examples of the content we have here. Linking away from Commons is not wrong (lots of POTD translations do that), but I am interested to know what the reasons are to do so. /Ö 23:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Like the Italian wikipedia we on the Dutch wikipedia also use the POTD on the mainpage (scroll a bit down to see). That is why we try to link directly to the articles on the Dutch language wikipedia so we only have to link once. The captions are then imported from User:Freestyle nl/POTD onderschrift to nl:Sjabloon:POTD onderschrift. Unfortunately there are users that resist the idea to directly link to the commons (for instance with the latin names of flora and fauna species), as we used to do that too. I hope you don't oppose this way of using the POTD. --Hardscarf 15:30, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't oppose that. I just wanted to now why it was done that way. /Ö 09:21, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I am not sure this is the inflow of the Chuya into Katun. Visited the very place myself and it does look different. Pls see Image:Katun Chuya.jpg. Also checked what other pictures there are on Google Earth and these do appear to confirm the doubts. Chuya does not have cloudy-white waters but rather cloudy-brown waters at the confluence. Pls doublecheck if possible. Thanks!--Ondřej Žváček 13:59, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked the uploader on flickr, and he confirmed that it was [1], but if it is not, then feel free to change the description, as I haven't been there ;). Thanks for clearing up this matter. --Hardscarf 15:41, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks! It appears that the uploader on flickr is also not sure the confluence of which rivers this is. At any event, Chuya is a right side tributary of Katun and the river on the picture seems to be a left side tributary. Unfortunately, I do not know what river it could be so cannot change the description. I thought it is Argut for a while but that is also a right side tributary.--Ondřej Žváček 22:16, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain.

Thank you. Hello, Hardscarf!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
