Here. It's not about you, but I saw that you'd dealt with the user's images before, so thought I should flag you. Someone on Twitter noticed, and I happened across the tweet. Apologies if I didn't follow quite the right process here. --Colin Douglas Howell (talk) 08:37, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Ah yes, notifying IJReid too, who has dealt with it also. FunkMonk (talk) 12:01, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Echo newsreel

Hi FunkMonk You've uploaded many Echo newsreel documentaries as public domain. How do you prove they are so? I'd like to use some clips of Saudi Arabia 1973 Echo Newsreel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43WENXTyfQs) but can only use it if I can prove it to be public domain. Any help much appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fayepulse (talk • contribs) 15:41, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

They are said to have been donated to the US National Archives by the copyright owners, and are therefore in the public domain according to Archive.org, where I got them. For example:[1] FunkMonk (talk) 17:40, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Mascarenotus image

Hi Funkmonk, sorry when I uploaded the image I didn't realise you had already uploaded it, my mistake. However the 19th century work is objectively an inferior copy of the 18th century sketch, there's absolutely no reason to use it over the other image. Changing the image in all of the wikis using it would be a pain though, unless some automated solution can be devised. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:05, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Well, there is no reason why both versions shouldn't be used in all articles; the copy was the only published version until last year! Also, if the image captions in other Wikipedias state it is the 19th century copy (as they do here[2][3][4][5]), it would make those captions wrong if you just upload over that version, and a lot of clean up would have to be done anyway. FunkMonk (talk) 23:59, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
And by the way, upscaling an image doesn't add more information/resolution, it only makes it more blurry when seen in full res, so it is essentially pointless... FunkMonk (talk) 00:03, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
I was suprised that the image was described as "high res" in the paper, given that you can barely distinguish the pencil strokes. I think the upscaling doesn't work particularly well because the image seems to have a horizonal pattern going through it, perhaps from the scanner that was used? I would like to see a proper, high quality scan of the image at some point, Literally just after I wrote that I actually found a high quality scan of the image, which I will upload shortly. Hemiauchenia (talk) 01:44, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, looks like scan artifacts. But I also wouldn't be surprised if the actual scan was in higher res, and they just used a down scaled version in the paper to save space. Anyhow, yeah, if you found a better version, and it's the same image of course, feel free to upload over it. FunkMonk (talk) 13:06, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
I just found the source of the copy (and updated it with a higher res version), looks much closer to the original drawing. Not sure what the older image was based on. Anyhow, this species is on my to do list for GA/FAC... FunkMonk (talk) 15:29, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
On second thoughts and viewing your high res copy of the reproduction, which also includes the horizontal artifacts, I think the lateral lines are some sort of rubbing effect on the drawing itself. As an aside, I've uploaded a alternate sketch of the Ascension crake by Mundy from Olson 1973, Both images seem to be in the same pose, but the one you uploaded twelve years ago is less detailed, but clearly distinct and not the same image. The link for the image at extinct.minks-lang.de is completely dead as well so I am unsure of its origin and how it relates to the Olson (1973) one. There's some nice side on views of a complete Ascension crake skull and a partial St Helena rail skull missing the beak in the paper that I'm considering tracing. Hemiauchenia (talk) 16:08, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, my very early days at Wikipedia, hehe... One of those Mundy drawing's gotta be a tracing of the original... I can't find an archived version of the page I found that image, but I don't think it had additional info about the image than what's already here in the description. FunkMonk (talk) 17:15, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the version I uploaded was the original, as it came with a sample of Mundy's handwriting, which is very similar. I see that you uploaded an image of a partial Palorchestes skull from Flickr. A paper on functional limb morphology was published in plos one in late 2019. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0221824 Would you be interested in uploading the figures? As I am having issues at the moment. Hemiauchenia (talk) 17:26, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Interesting, then I wonder under what circumstances the other drawing was made, but there are many such cases where they had to be redrawn, I guess because prints couldn't be made form the originals with the old techniques (same case with many of Paul Jossigny's images). I'll try to upload some of those images, but I'm having issues with the Internet myself... FunkMonk (talk) 18:19, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Why did you revert me?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Help_desk&diff=417365863&oldid=417352941

No explanation given, and you did this with the revert tool, which implies you considered it vandalism or such. - Jmabel ! talk 00:19, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Oh, must have been a mistake then, I rarely use that rollback tool, so I probably clicked it without noticing. Sorry! FunkMonk (talk) 07:04, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
Someone else eventually answered them, but less precisely. Since I hadn't heard back from you, I hesitated to get back in there in case there was actually some good reason you did this. I'm glad to hear there wasn't. - Jmabel ! talk 16:34, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
I didn't even know I had edited that page recently, must have mis-clicked when I was uploading an image or something. So no problem! FunkMonk (talk) 21:55, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

About images of Bison and Spinosaurus

Hi, I'm really sorry for my delay, thanks for contacting me. About the images I uploaded, I discussed with the author and he agreed that he would follow WIkimedia's dicision. If you need, I can send sccreenshots of our (me and the author) conversations (in that case, I need your e-mail or twitter address). OHSRW (talk) 01:53, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, well, the problem is that it seems very unlikely that one person created all the images used in the compilation. Compiling images does not give one the copyright. FunkMonk (talk) 02:38, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I can't agree more. So, should I delete them myself or should I wait for Wikimedia to do so? OHSRW (talk) 07:15, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Only admins can delete them. So it just has to wait until there is agreement in the deletion requests. FunkMonk (talk) 09:14, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
I understand. Thanks a a lot.OHSRW (talk) 13:45, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Last known footage of a Thylacine.webm

The audio track on this video that you uploaded is messed up after the first 12 seconds. Something probably went wrong in the conversion to webm. Kaldari (talk) 16:22, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Hmm, seems like it. Will see if I can find a better converter... FunkMonk (talk) 20:24, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Alternately, you could convert it without the audio track. Kaldari (talk) 03:53, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Kaldari, oddly it seems even my download of the original file seems to have sound problems (even when I try to download it again). Not sure what's wrong, maybe someone else should give it a shot. FunkMonk (talk) 17:23, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Adding OTRS permission

Hope you aware that Special:AbuseFilter/69 tagging changes "Adding OTRS permission by non-OTRS member", as it`s also tag filter log for you. I`d like to suggest you to request OTRS permission on Meta, if you can spend time to contribute there. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 15:07, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

I'll ~try to apply. The thing about that particular tagging was that it was the original version of an image that had already been OTRS accepted, but the original upload had been modified and uploaded over. So my upload was simply the same original file reuploaded. FunkMonk (talk) 15:57, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. Thanks! Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 17:24, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits to File:Leptorhynchos by Nick Longrich.jpg. You reverted my edits Special:Diff/428897197. then I investigated and I have marked the same file for speedy as copyvio. Hope this corrects my earlier mistake now. QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 09:08, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

But the uploader is clearly the artist, Nick Longrich (see username), so there s no reason for deletion. I don't see any reason to doubt the uploader is who they claim to be, their edits on Wikipedia also indicates they are this paleontologist. Given this, you should rather DR it if anything, as it is certainly not clear enough for speedy. FunkMonk (talk) 09:38, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Can u give a link where u found it? I asked the uploader on de wp, if he has more information. So maybe he has contact to the orignal author.--Sanandros (talk) 21:33, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi FunkMonk, the above image is slated to appear on the English Wikipedia's Main Page in a few days' time. The current white background of the image, however, would stand out undesirably from the green background of the "Today's featured article" section – if possible, could you kindly provide a transparent-background version of your Réunion ibis illustration, which would be more aesthetically pleasing than the current one when displayed on the Main Page? Thanks and kind regards. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 11:46, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure if the current version of the image exists without a background. I can check when I get home, otherwise feel free to create a png version without background. FunkMonk (talk) 11:57, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Images of models

Hey, thanks for reminding me about the freedom of panorama, I forgot. Because of that, I've uploaded several other images. Here are two[6][7] which I remember, there are probably more though. I don't really know how to nominate images for deletion, so, maybe you can? *sigh* Sorry if I'm not helpful. JurassicClassic767 (talk | contribs) 04:50, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi, it also seems you linked from a mobile, which would have less features. If you're on a computer, there's a "tools" bar on the left of the screen when you are on a file page, where you can click "Nominate for deletion". FunkMonk (talk) 14:07, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Macrospondylus

Hi FunkMonk,

Thanks for the correct identification! The Macrospondylus is monotypic? From the english article, I don't realy understand. Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 07:31, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a bit complicated, its type species bollensis was long thought to be part of Steneosaurus, but that genus was just broken up into a lot of new genera, and some old genera were revived, such as Macrospondylus. And there are a lot of specimens of that genus around the world, it seems! FunkMonk (talk) 07:34, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

OK, but on my picture is bollensis or not? DenesFeri (talk) 08:07, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Should be, it's hard to make it out, but you can almost see it in the labels of this photo:[8] They also seem to be labelled as Mystriosaurus, but that's outdated. FunkMonk (talk) 08:34, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

OK; Thank you very much! Cheers. DenesFeri (talk) 09:14, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
