RfA questions

Hi Fred. I enjoyed our dialogue on the RFA, but there were a couple things about your questions that concerned me.

First, I hope you understand what I meant by the difference between the "mechanics" and the "engineers". I really see the admin tools as just tools, and people who are willing/able/trusted to use them should be given them, because there are a lot of things that need doing and not enough volunteers to keep on top of it (especially with the backlogs now being created due to the toolserver issues). In some ways the tools might even hamper those involved in community leadership, since they might feel obligated to concentrate on rote administrative tasks, rather than discussing and proposing solutions to problems the project might face.

Second, I really don't think "level of activity" should be a factor. Even if an admin only uses the tools 20 times a week, that's 20 times less for the other administrators. Drops in the bucket eventually fill the bucket, if you know what I mean. Commons is in an unusual position in that it can be expected to grow exponentially as the other wikimedia projects grow (even more so as transwiki becomes a more common practice, which will mean a lot of local files being copied to here), so recruiting administrators from other projects (especially those with smaller backlogs) will be crucial for the health of commons. --SB_Johnny|^talk|_books 12:09, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I answer to your comment here. I agree with you: it's best to discuss rather than to engage an edit war. But, how to act when a blind man asks you to specify the reason, then the reason is already on the page? How to act when the same person criticize you for not to discuss, though he deletes the Template:Move which is precisely intended to initiate a possible discussion about a proposal (when I don't want any discussion, I use Template:Category redirect)?

I cannot judge whether Martorell is a "blind man"... there might have been some misunderstanding involved (you have to take into account that Martorell is not a native speaker of English).

Re: Administrators' noticeboard

Hi. As a neutral part I suggest you don't move the dispute with Juiced Lemon to the "User problem" area.

Maybe the instructions aren't clear for this, but the "dispute" section was intended specifically for these kind of disputes. The User problems section is for problem users where there's no dispute...

Ok. I'm sorry. I've noticed that here are a lot of dispute issues with user Juiced Lemon versus among several users (more than five users, including me) about content in pages, so I've tought it's a user problem because of his lack of communication. Hi Fred!

I wonder if there is any way to merge my old account (User:Jrohr) with my current account name (User:Johannes Rohr). On the German Wikipedia, I read that Burocrats would be able of doing so.
