Specifications for Confederate flags[edit]

Hi, yes I think they are official. The source is the book published by Devereaux D. Cannon Jr.: "The flags of the Confederacy", Memphis 1988, ISBN 0-918518-63-6 page 24. "Optimized"[edit]

Also, you did this for some of your uploads, but when you use such a technology, you should be 100% transparent about it on all of them rather than using vague terms such as "optimizations", which the average person would interpret as losslessly running the images through something like ImageOptim rather than using AI to drastically modify the details of the image. German East African lion[edit]

So, Fornax, what exactly do you think is the best course of action here for this issue with the lion on the flags; I tried last year to get somebody to re-vectorize it and nobody took the request, so I had to make a personal call to somebody so they could do it. These have been on the internet for twelve years now and it's been a long time coming somebody updates the files.

Hello, the lion's head is extremely difficult to vectorize. In the original, it has numerous subtleties and shadows that are very hard to reproduce. In addition, it is very difficult to reconstruct the typical look of the lion. However, before portraying a caricature on the flag, I prefer to use a good resolution .png version. I could contribute that, as I have quite high resolution images of the head. I also don't know anyone at this time who could do the complicated and very time-consuming vectorization. The present whimsical attempt at vectorization should be re-uploaded under a different name and the current files should not be overwritten.--Fornax (talk) 13:33, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Frage zu Dateiumbenennung[edit]

Hallo, du hast vor kurzem auf Commons die von mir hochgeladene Datei File:Wappen Osterby3.svg (sinnvollerweise) umbenannt. Da ich seit neuestem auch das Filemover-Recht auf Commons besitze, würde ich gerne nach und nach eine Umbenennung weiterer Dateien selbst durchführen. Bei einem ersten Umbenennungsversuch hat die Umbenennung zwar geklappt, aber der Quellcode ist auf den jeweiligen Seiten der alte geblieben. 1. Wie lässt sich der Quellcode bei allen Dateien ändern, ohne dass ich jede einzelne Datei im Namen ändern muss (habe etwas von einem Script gelesen, blick da aber nicht ganz durch.)? 2. Wie kann ich eine nicht so gute PNG-Datei global durch die neue (normalerweise bessere) SVG-Version ersetzen, ohne auf jeder Seite einzeln eine Änderung durchführen zu müssen? Punkt 1. hat sich möglicherweise erledigt, da hat inzwischen der "CommonsDelinker" ohne mein weiteres zutun eine Datei umbenannt, die sich auf meiner Benutzerseite befand und die ich nicht manuell geändert hatte. Möglicherweise dauert die Umbenennung ja Stunden bzw. Tage(?). Zu deinen Fragen: Als Skin benutze ich "Vector alt (2010)". Ich habe nicht viele Möglichkeiten über einer Dateiseite: "Bearbeiten, Versionsgeschichte" und als dropdown-Menü "Verschieben und Ersetzen". Ganz oben sind nur die üblichen Sachen von "Sprache" bis "Abmelden", aber m.E. nichts Ungewöhnliches. Man kann mit dem Replace-Tool ziemlich viel kaputt machen, deshalb sollte man immer genau nachdenken, bevor man es benutzt, – macht man dabei etwas falsch, müssen global viele Seiten händisch korrigiert werden. Du musst die Seite User:Fornax/common.js anlegen. Meine sieht so aus: User:Doc Taxon/common.js. Kopiere die zwei mittleren Zeilen und füge diese auf Deiner Seite ein, und dann speichern. Wenn Du das erledigt hast, müsstest Du bei Dateiseiten im oben genannten Dropdown-Menü noch was zusätzliches sehen. Dann melde Dich wieder. – Doc Taxon • Talk • 15:12, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ja, Du wirst ziemlich schnell auf kleineren, teils aber auch auf größeren Wikipedia-Versionen gesperrt, wenn da plötzlich falsche automatische Bearbeitungen erscheinen, muss ja nicht sein. Super, und JustReplace+ arbeitet unter anderem auch mit der Vorlage {{Vva}} zusammen. Wenn png und svg existieren, musst Du zunächst in die Dateibeschreibung {{vva|neuerDateiname.svg}} einfügen – und JustReplace+ kann dies dann auslesen. Die Verwendung von {{Vva}} als Beispiel findest Du hier: File:Wappen von Osterby bei Eckernfoerde in Deutschland.png. Wenn Du diese Dateiseite lädst, musst Du etwas abwarten, denn das Tool braucht so maximal ca. 15 Sekunden sag ich mal, bis die Daten alle ausgelesen sind. Dann klickst Du auf JustReplace+, der neue Dateiname ist dann schon eingelesen, lass Häkchen und alles andere, wie es ist (für den Fall png→svg) und click auf "Weiter". Dann sollte das Tool schon arbeiten.
Ein paar Sachen noch, die man dabei wissen sollte:
  1. Bitte lass dem Tool immer seine Ladezeit, warte nach Öffnen der Dateiseite so ca. 10 Sekunden.
  2. Das Tool hat eine ziemlich knapp bemessene Laufzeit. Es kann sein, dass das Tool zwischendrin abbricht. Diesem Tool ist GlobalReplace unterlagert, das wirst Du dann sehen, ändert aber leider an der Laufzeit nichts. In diesem Fall die Dateiseite neu laden und JustReplace+ nach den üblichen 10 Sekunden auf gleichem Wege neu starten.
  3. Wenn Du JustReplace+ startest und nichts abgearbeitet wird, gibt es wohl auch tatsächlich nichts mehr.
  4. Die Datenbankeinträge laufen nicht so schnell rein. Es kann sein, dass nach Benutzung des Tools noch Dateiverwendungslinks angezeigt werden, diese aber nicht mehr existieren – mit der Zeit werden diese dann auch verschwinden.
  5. Auf manchen Seiten in Wikipedia ist der Dateilink nicht richtig formatiert. Das Tool lässt diesen Link dann liegen, dort muss man dann manuell nachhelfen.
  6. Die Wikidata-Bridge funktioniert leider nicht richtig. Wenn das Tool den Wikidata-Eintrag bearbeitet hat, findet es nicht nach Wikipedia zurück und bricht ab. Dann die Dateiseite nochmal laden und das Tool nach den üblichen 10 Sekunden neu starten.

Erstmal danke für die ausführliche Beschreibung. Zunächst noch mal konkret: Ich trage in das Feld "Wie soll die neue Datei heißen?" ein:{{vva|Glauchau-CoA.svg}} ?. Was trage ich in das Feld "Begründung" ein? PNG>SVG? Bei meinem ersten Versuch startete das tool, zwischendurch kam jedoch irgendeine Fehlermeldung, und die Aktion brach offenbar ohne Folgen ab.--Fornax (talk) 10:25, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nein, Du hast nicht richtig gelesen. Ein Beispiel: Geh auf die Seite File:Wappen von Osterby bei Eckernfoerde in Deutschland.png und klick mal auf Bearbeiten. Im Bearbeitungsfeld kannst Du {{vva|DEU Osterby COA.svg}} lesen. Und eine solche Vorlage musst Du auch auf der png-Seite erst mal einfügen. Das ist also der erste Schritt: Auf File:Wappen Glauchau.png ist diese vva-Vorlage noch nicht da, die musst Du erst einfügen. Öffne die Datei File:Wappen Glauchau.png und klick auf Bearbeiten. Füge jetzt an geeigneter Stelle {{vva|Glauchau-CoA.svg}} ein und speichere. Wenn Du dies getan hast, erst dann öffnest Du das Tool. Dann steht nämlich im Feld "Wie soll die neue Datei heißen?" das richtige schon drin, eine Begründung kommt schon automatisch, auch wenn die Zeile leer ist, da brauchst Du nichts einzufügen. Nochmals herzlichen Dank für deine Geduld. Hatte tatsächlich da was falsch verstanden. Im Prinzip funktioniert die Sache jetzt. Offenbar muss man das tool tatsächlich öfters starten, bis alle Einträge geändert worden sind. Letztendlich muss man wohl Geduld haben und nach einiger Zeit prüfen, ob noch Einträge offen sind. Dass sich was getan hat, habe ich auch an Begrüßungen gemerkt, die ich für meine erste Bearbeitung erhalten habe, zB. aus der kasachischen oder aserbaidschanischen Wikipedia 😀. Du meinst Hüttlbek? Nun ja, bis auf nl:Hüttlbek, wenn Du dort mal schaust, ist das ü in Hüttlbek transkribiert. Das beherrscht das Tool nicht. Hm, bei mir hat Glauchau gut funktioniert. Kann das ganz zufällig sein, dass Du gerade nicht die png-Datei sondern die svg-Datei geöffnet hattest? @Doc Taxon: Hallo, ich habe zu diesem Komplex doch noch eine Nachfrage. Inzwischen habe ich sicherlich global weit über 1000 erfolgreiche Ersetzungen png>svg durchgeführt. Dabei kam es bisher genau in drei Fällen zu einem ungewöhnlichen Verhalten: Unmittelbar nach dem (erfolgreichen) Austausch der Datei wurde anschließend die komplette Seite gelöscht, was mir erst aufgefallen ist, nachdem jemand die Löschung rückgängig gemacht hat. In der Historie ist zu erkennen, dass bei der Löschung nochmal die Bemerkung "(GR) File:Horst (Stb)-Wappen.png → File:DEU Horst (Holstein) COA.svg" eingetragen wurde. Hier ein Beispiel:
