There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Verdun_memorial.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello, Fanghong!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

language expertise[edit]

Hi Fanghong,
I am not sure whether Commons talk:削除依頼 is chinese or japanese. If you can read it, could you check whether it makes sense or should be deleted, as it was created by an IP and was never edited thereafter. Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 07:53, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Google Translate detects it as Japanese. --Teratornis (talk) 19:39, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain...[edit]

You recently deleted File:Pangnirtung basketball players.jpg. I agree that was the consensus. However your entry in the dleetion log stated it was deleted due to "flickrwashing".

Isn't "flickrwashing" the term for when contributors here take a non-free image, upload it to flickr, slap on a deceitful liscense, then upload that nonfree image to the commons as if it were under that free liscense?

The record shows that this image was released on flickr under a free liscense. It underwent a flickr review, verifying it was on flickr under a free liscense. I am not the flickr uploader. No one suggested I was.

Could you please explain why you described this as "flickrwashing"?

Recently I saw one administrator explain to another administrator what they saw as the difference between flickrwashing and a flickrvio. They said that flickrvio was when it was a flickr contributor who was not a wikipedia contributor who practiced bad-faith. They explained to the other administrator that when a wikimedia commons contributor innocently takes at face value the bogus liscense applied by flickr contributor the commons contributor should not have anyone imply they were at fault.

Is this your understanding of the difference between a flickr vio and a flickr washing? Geo Swan (talk) 02:29, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't speak for Fanghong, but the Wikimedia Commons definition is at: Commons:Flickr washing. --Teratornis (talk) 09:29, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the definition. And thanks to User:Fanghong for correcting the entry in the deletion log. Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 19:39, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion (cosmetics)[edit]

Hi there. When you delete after a DR, please link the deletion summary back to the DR discussion. There are gadgets for doing this from the DR itself (DelReqHandler, I think). Regards, --Eusebius (talk) 06:52, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
