Thanks for uploading File:Battle of Nashville (December 15, 1864).gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Maps from Meyers Lexicon[edit]

Hi FDRMRZUSA,

noticed you uploaded new versions of the following files recently:

Thank you for uploading. Unfortunately it seems that they are from a different source than the old versions, though the differences seem very few. The files with names like “Meyers b… s… jpg” belong to a project on German Wikisource, where they are used for proofreading. So we need exactly the right edition and year of publication. Therefore I would like you to upload those maps with a different name please. Best regards --Mapmarks (talk) 15:53, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FDRMRZUSA, thank you for your answer on my talk page. I just uploaded the files again and you find them here:

Hi, it was fair to reply to me here, not to return my editorial. I am one of the founders of the Bulgarian Heraldic Society and have been a member of the Wikipedia project since 2005. I have been dealing with the issue of the Bulgarian coat of arms for 15 years. My changes are based on my research. Тhe your argument with which you return my editorial is subjective - this is not my personal experiment! My version is based on my research and the differences between the two coat of arms is that in the one from 1968 the lion is colored but the one from 1971 is plain. Regards...

File:Coat_of_arms_of_Uruguay.svg[edit]

Hi, I saw that you fixed the svg in the coat of arms, and I appreciate that, but there's an error that has appeared in multiple files, since 1906 by law, the Sun in the coat of arms must have 13 rays. Here the official text of the law if you know spanish: "El sol que corona el óvalo se configurará con sus tres cuartas partes visibles, dibujándose el disco con una cara, debiéndose ver los ojos y la nariz solamente; de dicho disco saldrán 7 rayos en forma de punta de lanza; de entre éstos saldrán otros 6 rayos dibujados en forma tal que parezcan llamas de fuego; el disco y los rayos referidos se harán con oro bruñido o pulido.", another proof, this is a picture of the official Coat of Arms how it looks in the entrance of the House of Government in Montevideo: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/Escudo_Nacional_en_la_fachada_de_la_Torre_Ejecutiva_-_panoramio.jpg . Thank for your time, I'd like to see this error finally fixed. Coquimbo58 (talk) 03:18, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of line feed characters[edit]

Please stop systematically removing all line feed and tab characters from every SVG file that you touch. If you want to reduce the size of a file there are almost always better ways to do it. Basic legibility of source code is more important than file size. MapGrid (talk) 02:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop up-scaling with Inkscape![edit]

Over the last year you have up-scaled the individual path coordinates in a large number of SVG flag files. You always leave the comment "Higher svg file resolution by "Inkscape" resizing". I assume this means you simply imported the files into Inkscape and uniformly scaled all path coordinates by some factor larger than one.

When you scale a coordinate value by a factor larger than one, you will usually end up with more digits than you had before. You have to decide whether or not to round the resulting coordinate values; or have to rely on Inkscape to decide for you.

If you round all coordinate values after scaling, then you are in effect creating a path that has a slightly different shape than the pre-scaled version. This means that the new scaled path is guaranteed to be less accurate than the original. That is not a good thing.

If you don't round the the coordinate values after scaling, then the shape of the path will stay the same but the file size will increase. More importantly, you are left in a state where the last digits of each coordinate value may be incorrect; this is especially true in cases where the original coordinate value was rounded from an irrational number. In such cases, the new scaled drawing will provide a false sense of accuracy that does not match its apparent resolution. This is not a good thing.

If you are going to increase the resolution of an SVG flag file that contains rounded irrational coordinate values, then please do the following:

  1. Read all official government flag specifications pertaining to the flag.
  2. Study any construction sheets that may exist on Wikimedia, government sites, or elsewhere.
  3. Calculate all coordinates using trigonometry using as many significant digits as your computer or calculator allows.
  4. Scale the numbers to match your coordinate system as appropriate.
  5. Round off all irrational numbers as a final step so your drawing is left with sufficient resolution.

If your only goal is to change the nominal dimensions of a file, then please simply add a viewBox and adjust the drawing's width and height properties accordingly. MapGrid (talk) 23:54, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish Republic naval insignia[edit]

I really don't know anything about the heraldry or insignia of the Spanish Republic (beyond the purple bar in the flag), and you already seem to have defenders. By the way, is the stretching in the latest version of File:Flag of the Captain General of the Fleet Second Spanish Republic (1931-1939).svg intentional? Haile Selassie standard[edit]

@FDRMRZUSA: Hi, could you not edit the "necklace" on the .svg files of the standard of Haile Selassie you did to better match the sources?
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ethiopian_imperial_standard_of_Haile_Selassie_I_(obverse).svg
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ethiopian_imperial_standard_of_Haile_Selassie_I_(reverse).svg
The current "knots" and sea-shells do not match how it looks in any of the sources. In reality it was just a "segmented" ring with a star of david in each segment, with an Ethiopian crown at the bottom (at least on the obverse side?).
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/fd/b6/1c/fdb61c60ef1136e40c8af5e89a1db047.jpg
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DrA5dbpW4AEJLfg.jpg
There also doesn't appear to be a chain holding the bottom star, the text was yellow and not black, and the "necklace" + symbol should be far larger (the lion should be the same size as on the national flag).
I am not super good at .svg editing, but since you could create these new flags, do you think you could adjust these details? The correct necklace is not a very advanced shape/design, just a ring with the pre-existing star inside several times. --Havsjö (talk) 14:45, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Havsjö: Ciao, I am also not a very advanced svg designer (as Sodacan), however I tried to satisfy your requests, improving the current versions: now the Ethiopian imperial standards (perhaps) are better (more similar to sourced images) than the previous versions: please, can you verify? Ciao, FDRMRZUSA, 18:20, 5 February 2020 (UTC+1)
Thanks, FDRMRZUSA! But I still think some things could be improved to better match the sources. @Sodacan: Could you perhaps assist us noobs and preform these adjustments to the circle/necklace? :) --Havsjö (talk) 12:38, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Permission box[edit]

The Permission box is where the Institution / owners is referenced.

The license is under its own header. See File:The Battle of Navarino 20 October 1827.jpg

There was nothing wrong with that example other than it was missing a USA license.

You need to go back and correct every instance where you have made these incorrect changes. - Broichmore (talk) 22:35, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of Jordan (Please stop trying to fix things that are not broken)[edit]

FDRMRZUSA, you recently modified the File:Flag of Jordan.svg because you said the star diameter was 85.769 pixels instead of 85.714 pixels. Let me first explain that I have a habit of using a large viewbox and then using integers because it keeps the file size small. In the Jordan Flag I picked viewbox of 10080 x 5040. The numbers are divisible by 2 and 3 which allows the triangle and the horizontal bars to be laid out with 100% accuracy. The star points on the star had a maximum error of 0.5 viewbox units. If you blew the flag up to the size of a soccer field, that would be a maximum error of 0.25 inches... that in my opinion is more than sufficient for any real world (or non real world) application. So I am claiming you made unnecessary changes when you tried to increase the accuracy. However, you also did some unnecessary damage while you thought you were improving things:

  • You made the black and green bars 10079.999 units wide instead of 10080 units. The error is admittedly small, but why not stick to 10080?
  • The placed the right point of the triangle at 5039.9995 units instead of 5040 units. Again the error is small, but why not stick to 5040?
  • You added unnecessary matrix and translation transformations to the star. The matrix transformation you applied does both scaling and translation, thus you are ultimately doing two one scaling operation and two translation operations on a single star. Why bother? It just adds bloat.
  • Ultimately you put the star in completely the wrong place. It looks like when you tried to follow the construction sheet, you bisected a side of the triangle instead of bisecting the opposite angle.

Also I think I may have asked before: please stop removing titles, tabs and line feeds. If you get in the habit of using tabs and line feeds you can catch a lot of errors and inconsistancies by looking at the file before it is uploaded. In this case you removed about 32 bytes of characters that I consider to be useful, but at the same time you almost doubled the size of the file with you transformations and use of floating point numbers. File:Flag of Algeria.svg[edit]

Hi, can you please stop reverting the file to the 977 bytes version? The current 311 bytes version is accurate and simplified enough. I can explain to you about the codes.

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="900" height="600">
<path fill="#fff" d="M0 0h900v600H0z"/>
<path fill="#063" d="M0 0h450v600H0z"/>

</svg>

Based on the construction sheet, the crescent is composed of two circular arcs with radius 1/4 and 1/5 of the height of the flag respectively. (i.e. 150 and 120) the coordinates of the two tips of the crescent can be calculated as (450+150*cos 30°,300±150*sin 30°)≈(579.9038105676657970145584...,225) and (579.9038105676657970145584...,75). This explains the first part of the 4th line, the latter part is just the coordinate of the star.

However this 977 bytes code contains too many unnecessary transformations and shapes. It can not be explained how those numbers with decimal places are come from. The 4th line is just a circle, why it need to be 4 arcs? Also why would there be cubic bezier curves in the 6th line? Therefore I don't prefer using this code. The es:Wikiproyecto:Ilustración/Taller de Heráldica y Vexilología has the authority to change the file after a detailed discussion which you did not initiate. There is really no need to improve the code as it was valid before. We need your feedback![edit]

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Saudi Flag[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to inform you that your change on Saudi Flag type 2 has been reverted since the current one does not match “royal decree 1973” and it’s been voted by the admin LaundryPizza03 as an incorrect calligraphy after it was reported to Wikipedia Administration Noticeboard https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Help_desk#c-LaundryPizza03-2022-06-26T14%3A11%3A00.000Z-Flag_of_Saudi_Arabia

Please do not make any reversions Aziz bm (talk) 16:48, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The User:Savasampion keeps reverting the files File:Royal Coat of arms of Serbia (1882–1918).svg File:Flag of Serbia (1882–1918).svg without any source. He’s been warned multiple times not to do that without a source. I suggest you should ban the user so that he may not continue with the vandalism. Stop changing the symbols of the Dominican Republic. On this platform there are already DOMINICAN graphic designers who know their national symbols and their history. stop fooling around altering our symbols, starting with our national coat of arms.
