Welcome, I used to be here to slowly upload images from a museum service I once worked with. If you need to contact me quickly please use my wikipedia talk page, or email me. --Edmund Patrick 11:43, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will answer questions on the same page as asked, so that the dialogue remains in one piece. This means that I'll observe, or if you prefer, watch your talk page after posting there. If you post here, please do the same.Thanks.
Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Edmund Patrick!

image copying[edit]

copy from help desk for reference. try as I might I cannot find instructions for the following. I wish to import from [1] to wikipedia some of the images concerning the maths of sundials. I plan to put into my wikipedia sandbox, try and convert to svg. and start translations and finally upload to Commons; or if possible do this all within Commons, then insert into the article. Is there a correct order in doing this and will the license travel across with it. Sorry people lots of questions in one. Thanks Edmund Patrick ( confer work) 19:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Edmund, Some of those images are already on Commons, so they can be used in any Wikimedia project right now: e.g. [[:Image:Beijing sundial.jpg], Image:AnalemmaVitruvii.jpg. I guess you are talking about the diagrams? They appear to be mostly be de:Benutzer:Fantagu. It's up to you whether or not you transfer the originals to Commons. If you do, please be sure to use the CommonsHelper tool. Otherwise, you're welcome to just upload the new ones you create. If you use the existing ones as a basis for the new ones, yes, you should keep the same license as the originals, and link to the original image page, and mention the name of the author of the original. You will probably want to use Inkscape for converting the images to SVG. There is a little bit of advice at Commons:Transition to SVG but sadly not much. If you have any more questions or if I didn't answer something properly, please feel free to ask more questions here. thanks, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 06:36, 29 September 2007 (UTC) many thanks; the journey begins, I will if I get into difficulties return. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Sybil Andrews images[edit]

Hi Mr. Patrick,

As I had not heard from you via email (sent through your En account) I have had the images in question deleted per the request of the Glenbow Museum who does indeed appear to own the copyright as transfered via Ms. Andrews will. I have uploaded a low resolution version of the Michaelmas image on En so that it can be used on the article and have replaced it there. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to get ahold of me either on my talk page here, on Meta or via the Email User function. If in the end I was in the wrong images can always be restored from the system. I'll leave a copy of this note on your En page and send you another email. Again, please let me know if you have any questions. Jamesofur (talk) 17:24, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jamesofur, many thanks for the email I have yet to receive your first one, hence no reply. I thought the images were low res that I had uploaded, if you have lowered it I have no problem as long as people can see her style and type of work. As to copyright I will bring that one up with the management at some point we also have a very large collection of her original work. This will be when we all have the time etc to research the subject. Interesting thought I know of private collectors and a gallery that also have, like us, the original of that particular print (she normally printed 60 - 65) I wonder if they think they have the copyright as well? Murky waters that I personally do not want to go into, the lawyers would have a field day I am sure. As I said as long as the general public can see her amazing craft, skill and vision I am happy for any resolution. Thanks for your care and attention, Yours Edmund Patrick ( confer work) 18:10, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
