File:Homo en USA.pdf has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Zaragoza - Rincón de Goya.svg[edit]

Hi,

If I understand well, this file File:Zaragoza - Rincón de Goya.svg is the representation of a building, the Rincón de Goya, build by the architect Fernando García Mercadal (who died in 1985).

First, shouldn't you use the {{FoP-Spain}} template ?

Then, did you use a particular technique or software ? (in addition to Inkscape).

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 11:49, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have introduced {{FoP-Spain}}, even though I think it is a bit excessive, as it is not a reproduction of the building, but an ideal recreation of how it was when inaugurated. Today the building looks completely different.
I only used Inkscape to make the drawing, and didn't use any particular technique, just a plain normal isometric perspective.

Documentary Film for the National Geographic Channel[edit]

Dear Ecelan,

I am an assistant producer from Infocus Asia a production house based in Singapore. We are currently producing a documentary series for the National Geographic Channel about urban legends and history around Asia.

For one of my scenes, I am looking for archives of the European Inquisition and came across this image that you uploaded on Wikicommons, An Inquisition Torture Chamber by Bernard Picard: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Picard.jpg

I am aware that all works before 1900 are in the Public Domain, and i would like to confirm with you that this image and the original painting are in the Public Domain, and free for use.

Thank you for your help Ecelan

Kindest regards,

Candice Email: candice@infocusasia.com

Hello Candice,
I can confirm you that this image corresponds to the illustration number 10 from Louis-Ellies Dupin's Mémoires Historiques (1716), done by Bernard Picard.
I hope you are aware that the image is historically not accurate. It corresponds to the mediaeval tradition of the Theater des Schreckens, which tended to show images of death penalties. In this case, the image was changed slightly to include an inquisitor, a curate and a secretary, so as to make it appear as the inquisition. In reality, the inquisition never tortured several people at the same time.

Expulsion of Jews[edit]

Ecelan, the location of Lithuania on your map outlining the expulsion of Jews is incorrect. The area colored brown is not Lithuania but medieval Livonia (present-day Estonia and Latvia). Lithuania lies directly south of Livonia (south of Latvia). Please correct your mistake. --Vihelik (talk) 07:21, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, Spain, France or Germany don't correspond with their present or historical borders either. The marked areas correspond to the areas of jewish settlement, not the political borders of the government. --ecelan (talk) 07:57, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
