Superb image. Would you like to sign? Durova (talk) 23:26, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for not explaining better. I liked your photograph and added it to some articles and set up the nomination. Since it's your photograph you deserve credit (hope you don't mind sharing). Yes, please go ahead and add your signature. As soon as you do I'll take the page live. All the best, Durova (talk) 17:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gladly. Without babel boxes it's a little hard to estimate your language skills, but if captioning has been an issue to getting proper recognition for your work at en:wiki , please let me know which other photographs I can help. That's fine work you do! Cheers, Durova (talk) 19:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A 'commons style' G'day :-)[edit]

Hope you're good, D - I've nominated an image for deletion (removed from this page, because frankly it's tacky 'n orrible) - to be honest, the issues are clear enough from my perspective to warrant an immediate deletion pending a discussion - I thought I'd swing by here to ask you if you've got 20secs to take a look at whether or not I've filed things correctly - I get easily confused by some processes, so any advice / help would be appreciated! thanks, Privatemusings (talk) 04:13, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted; lacks model permission necessary under the circumstances. Durova (talk) 08:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cedarkey image[edit]

My upload: Image:Cedar-key_florida-1884-historicalmap.png your later upload: Image:Cedar_Key_1884b_small.jpg ...Clearly I had this image on the article and did my own retouch work that you copied and then got it set as a featured image. Well, points for you. No bad thoughts intended towards you. Although Wikipedia is all about chins of this led to that, and I find it odd that you don't list my retouched image (that was on the article) as inspiration for your touchup work. None the less, it's a nice picture, eh? Cheers, Nesnad (talk) 06:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I didn't even see your version until I uploaded my finished restoration. No offense intended; I came across it during a routine search of Library of Congress holdings and thought it would be a good image to work on. Great minds think alike? Best wishes, Durova (talk) 06:32, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An image name that treads on personality rights issues[edit]

So where is it? What is "the same category as before"? Please do not delete renamed files without replacing them. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 06:52, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The category is drunkenness. Was my note somehow unclear? I uploaded to exactly the filename that had been suggested in the discussion, and uploaded exactly the same information that had been there. It was a courtesy only, to speed what the bot would eventually have done. Durova (talk) 19:28, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The bot would have replaced usage, you failed to do that. Why won't you give the filename? Category:Drunkenness does not even exist, and the image is not in Category:Drunken people. Please leave this to a stupid bot instead. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 19:36, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A moment's look at my contribution history would prove what I have already stated twice: that I did upload the image under a new name immediately. The reason for that was to reduce attention to an inappropriate filename. Please refrain from aggressive accusations that draw attention to the problem my action sought to resolve. Durova (talk) 20:02, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Look, you did not answer my inquiry, the new filename was not in the deletion discussion, and you told me to look in the wrong categories. But now I finally found, and restored its use. Thank you. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 20:25, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I apologize for having recalled the category incorrectly. Best wishes, Durova (talk) 21:08, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need (lots of) help for image and imagemap editing[edit]

Hi Durova. I'm not sure whether you use the OS programs, but there's a few of us on Wikiversity/Wikibooks that want to play around with imagemaps for our help pages and for just learning them in general (personally I'm trying to convert a satellite image of my farm into an imagemap for the farm's wiki). I got a bit of help from Carol Spears (here's the discussion), but honestly still feeling a bit clueless. I also made a map using inkscape, which I then converted to a bitmap and then tried to make a bitmap on Gimp, which worked but still not sure how to upload the file and change it over to use the imagemap extensions.

Got a very small start on a project yesterday here, but we really need a bit of expertise... could you give us a hand? --SB_Johnny talk 11:25, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite my area, sorry. Durova (talk) 22:47, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bummer... can you recommend some folks to get in touch with about it? --SB_Johnny talk 12:36, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The best GIMP restorationist I know isn't available right now. You've already consulted Carol, who knows a lot about coding GIMP scripts. Cary Bass is also a GIMP enthusiast. He might not have the answers you seek, but may have good referrals. Best wishes. Durova (talk) 04:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your advice is needed[edit]

Hi Durova. I am really sad by all of this drama on Commons, really. I'd just like to do what you're doing, at least I hope I once can join you! ;) Right now I'm asking you for advice on this. I think we're loosing valuable time & contributors, they're golden & hence why we haven't seen the senior users. I think they're a big loss, which is something we can't afford to loose. I fear we're loosing more if I continue with this silliness. I have great respect for the way you handle and resolve disputes. --Kanonkas(talk) 22:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks very much for coming to me. Not sure what to say to that; I've been wrapped up in sister project drama this month and relatively drama-free over here. What do you think we can do about this? It can be tough to get the right balance with people who are productive themselves, but difficult to work with. Durova (talk) 04:21, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not replying back, but it seems to have been solved without our help! Thank you for the reply which I find to be quite true. --Kanonkas(talk) 01:31, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Durova. I saw your name on the admins list, and I was wondering if you could delete the first revision of my image. It's guitar.svg G33kicon (talk) 05:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

As a very good friend of mine said when she walked into a crowded event, saw me, and said: "A friendly face!!!". Thank you Durova.

Go ahead and nominate it, for I´ve had problems nominating pictures there (I am not really wiki profficient) and will do what you ask.

Not that it is my picture, but rather, everybody´s picture, and independently of the fact that I took it, it is a great moment captured.

I know I can be a pain at FPC, and do not really enjoy the bickering (well, maybe a bit sometimes, for sport), but I´ve come to realize that there are a lot of valuable people that deserve a place, and it is in that spirit, for a greater good, that I express my opinions.--Tomascastelazo (talk) 19:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a wonderful illustration of natural camouflage, and when I checked the usage was surprised to see it didn't appear in any Wikipedia. Glad to help, and glad to give credit where credit is due. Best, Durova (talk) 00:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Durova, please read proposal for FPC gudelines in the discussion page #REDIRECT [[1]]. I believe that concensus could and should be built in order to improve quality of the page, project, etc. It is clear that there are disagreements on the personal level for some, but I believe that everybody agrees that there is definitely room for improvement. --Tomascastelazo (talk) 03:10, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Input needed on a Wikiversity project[edit]

Hi Durova. I'm trying to get a project started on Wikiversity: Wikipedia and the 2008 US elections‎, which is a research project on how Wikipedia articles are created and improved, particularly when the topic is the subject of strong sentiments and relates to events that change over the time period in the study (probably January 2008 through January 2009, but there's some question about when the campaign actually "began").

I'm leaving you (and a few other folks) this note because you've had some interest in Wikiversity's studies of Wikipedia in the past, I wanted to get a few more eyes on the project before announcing it on Wikipedia: I hope to do that over the next few days on the talk pages of the 4 "beta test" articles: w:Barack Obama, w:John McCain, w:Sarah Palin, and w:Joe Biden, with a broader announcement later after the initial kinks are worked out. I was also hoping you would know people who would be interested in this, as well as knowing people with a few "special skills", including:

  1. Data collection and sorting from the article histories (how many edits and what sorts of edits over a given time period, etc.)
  2. People who can make good graphs and charts from that data
  3. people who can help develop guidelines for whether and how to discuss individual editors if they are felt to be "notable"

I think this could be a very fruitful study: Wikipedia's model of content creation is quite complicated, but it works! --SB_Johnny talk 14:12, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like an excellent idea. Quite a surprise to get tapped for it, though, because it's far afield from my usual work. The only contribution I've made to Wikiversity has been in textile crafts. I've put that on hold catching up with other commitments. Durova (talk) 15:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
