Hellenic Army rank insignia[edit]

You did a great job in recreating the rank insignia of the Hellenic Army, which were deleted by a paranoid admin. Congratulations. However, you must add the phrase "Own work" or the trmplate Own in the "Source: " field, otherwise they shall be deleted again sooner or later by some other fanatic. The cc-by-sa-3.0 template is not a substitute of an "own work" declaration. SV1XV (talk) 16:13, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I could not read your e-mail with greek characters. Please write in English or with latin characters. SV1XV (talk) 17:53, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you fixed the source for the SVG files, would you do it for the GIF/PNG ones as well? Tnaks SV1XV (talk) 05:24, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

State Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Greece[edit]

Dear Diafora,

Thanks for your update, the issue of the royal crown is a very big issue for everybody, and had been debated quite extensively here on my talk page, please have a read (but only if you are interested!). Nevertheless the conclusion reached was that the crown was similar in design to the Danish, so that was where I settled, but that is not final and we can discuss the issue further if you want, Thanks anyhow, Best Regards, Sodacan (talk) 22:47, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But the crown isn't wrong, although artistically it is not similar, theoretically it is correct since the crown used were based on the danish design. And unless their is a clear source that states that this crown exist or what it looks like exactly, heraldically all the coat of arms are correct. Sodacan (talk) 00:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats[edit]

Congratulations on the various Greek insignia, excellent work! You've certainly earned your barnstar... I wonder if you could also do the old-style (early 20th-century) army insignia, as seen here. They might come in handy for Balkan Wars etc related biographical articles. Cheers, Constantine 17:39, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It's in my plans soon to begin all the insignia of past years. Diafora (talk) 19:24, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was quick! Thanks a million, and keep it up. Cheers, Constantine 09:43, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hellenic Navy rank insignia[edit]

I added tables with your insignia drawings in the articles Hellenic Navy and Hellenic Coast Guard of the English Wikipedia. Could you please add the following for the Navy:

 • Archiploiarxos (Commodore) sleeve insignia
 • Other NCO ranks (in blue for women, conscipts etc)
 • Reserve officers (epikouroi)

See these pages for patterns:

SV1XV (talk) 07:30, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ok I'll add them my friend ;-) Diafora (talk) 13:25, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All sleeves insignia, oher NCO rank and Reserve officers are uploaded. Diafora (talk) 00:30, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! Fine job. I added the women NCO, warrant officer and commodore insignia in Hellenic Navy. However I am not sure in what NATO grade/rank belong the "able seaman" (naftis) and "epikouros simaioforos", so I did not include them for the time being. SV1XV (talk) 05:35, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!!! I thinking that Epikouros simaioforos belong to OF (D) and able seaman (naytis) belong to OR-2.
It is smth like Efedros Axiomatikos in the Hellenic Army
Army (and Air Force) DEAs are warrant officers (WO-1). This is because they are appointed "by warrant" of a General. When they are commissioned as 2nd lieutenants, it is with a Presidential Decree published in the Government Gazette (FEK). I am not sure about the Navy though, as they command small or auxiliary naval ships. SV1XV (talk) 19:14, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I modified the licensing of this image by adding Anonymous-EU. As your SVG image is a derivative work and the Greek State has not made clear the copyright status of insignia, we have to ensure that any copyright on the original design has also expired. This is obviously the case here (an anonymous/pseudonymous design produced in 1920). SV1XV (talk) 16:05, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello! I see you are keeping up the excellent work! If you have time, could you please vectorize this in two variants, one with a single crown and one with three (similar to this and based on the pattern shown here)? The representations we currently have are a bit too AEK-ish and not quite like the actual pattern. Also, could you vectorize this and the phoenix from this, this or this? The phoenix design would be useful for the junta, the PEEA and the 2nd Republic (1923-35) and is AFAIK anonymous. Plus, any rendering of the old Greek Revolution flags, especially those of the islands, would be useful... Best regards and thanks in advance, Constantine 16:52, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My dear friend,I'll certainly vectorize all above. About Kapodistria's phoenix i've started long ago but it's a bit difficult because I'm looking for documents in a somewhat clearer picture like this. The phoenix for the junta will be ready soon as well as the double-headed eagle of Byzantium. Diafora (talk) 18:21, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
After a long wait I've vectorize some of the above. Diafora (talk) 15:55, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work! I spotted only a minor error in the flag of Hydra, where you got the "ΤΑΣ" in "Η TAN H EPI ΤΑΣ" wrong. If you have time, you could render some more seals. No pressure, take your time with them. Again, excellent work! Constantine 14:32, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Constantine, Take a look at this CoA of Palaiologos Dynasty. I think it is close enough to the image, and certainly better than what exists. What do you think? Diafora (talk) 18:57, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greek enlisted, NCO and warrant officer insignia[edit]

According to the current version 6 of "STANAG 2116" (2010) the various NCO and enlisted ranks of the Greek Armed Forces are as shown in en:User:Sv1xv/Sandbox/IIW. The warrant officer (ανθυπασπιστής) is now OR-9, and the rank of ΔΕΑ logically is also OR-9, as it was always tied to ανθυπασπιστής. Regarding your artwork on Commons, we have to request a rename the various image files, but it must be done carefully and in stages in order to avoid name conflicts. SV1XV (talk) 17:30, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reading closely the "STANAG 2116" i found a lot of changes. Αρχιλοχίας is OR8 ect.I 'll work on those changes in future. The warrant officer (ανθυπασπιστής) and ΔΕΑ are ready for renaming. Diafora (talk) 19:46, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Classifying Antipaspistis and DEA as NCOs does not make sense, as they are normally found in command of a platoon (and sometimes of a company). Also in their other roles they function as officers, therefore they should be either WO-1 or OF(D). However the Greek government sent this OR-9 classification to NATO and it is now official. SV1XV (talk) 07:06, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to STANAG 2116 Greek Enlisted NATO clasification as shown in el:User:Diafora/Αμμοδοχείο2Diafora (talk) 19:46, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, regarding File:GR-Army-OFDb.svg, this special rank insignia for army reserve officers (Έφεδρος Ανθυπολοχαγός) was proposed in the past (I suspect the reason...) but I believe that it was never actually used. It has been removed from the most recent list [1]. SV1XV (talk) 19:08, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Diafora!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Help[edit]

Hello Diafora, I greatly respect the work you do on improving the quality of images such as the Coat of Arms of Saint Lucia. I humbley ask how do you improve images to such a good qulity. It would be great if you were to show me how to do that so that I may make images to improve the quality of articles for my country (The Bahamas). Regardless of your answer I thank you for your time. Request[edit]

Hello Diafora,

I saw the amazing work you did with all the medals, ranks and insignia graphics you have created and I was wondering if you could help create the same for Cyprus Police http://www.cyprusdriving.net/police/Cyprus_Police_Ranks.jpg. Additionally if you could create a Greek version of the existing vector of the Logo that is in the infobox of Cyprus Police so that I may add it in the Greek version of the page.(Basically replacing the CYPRUS POLICE with ΑΣΤΥΝΟΜΙΑ ΚΥΠΡΟΥ as seen on the top right of the official webpage http://www.police.gov.cy) Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. For any further information, details or some closeups I have, (eg the stars are silver although they appear gold in the link) you can reply to me here or in my talk page. Thank you. Andreas.sta (talk) 11:23, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok my friend no broblem. I will start immediately the covertion! Diafora (talk) 14:52, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That’s great. I am sending you a link to a picture of the Epaulettes (επωμίδες) for the police constables/Sergeants and special constables (the one with the yellow lines) to help give you a visual reference. link Would be good if you used any four digit number under 5000 for Police constable/Sergeant and 5000 for Special Constable. Notice that the shape of the epaulette is not isosceles. The more accurate shape is the one in the picture of Superintendent A’ at the link I sent you previously with the ranks. All ranks have the same shape. Thanks again for taking on this task.Andreas.sta (talk) 16:57, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look Here for the Hellenic version of Emblem. Diafora (talk) 09:20, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent Job and perfectly alligned! The banner and the shield should actually be solid white (comes out transparent and picks up the backround colour). Although the references I provided were not so high resolution great job on spotting and replacing the dots connecting the banner to the shield with the shapes you used. If you are still willing and have the time to convert the rank insignia of the Cyprus Police, I am trying to find high resolution images for the higher ranks. In the meantime I can send you a link of a closeup of the stars so you can accurately see the shape.link. Also managed to find a clear image of the logo for the Cyprus Fire Service if you can convert it as well. (had a hard time finding this one) link. Once again thank you for your help Andreas.sta (talk) 13:36, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Very well! I' ve made the color corections. I have also found this one for epaulettes. Diafora (talk) 14:43, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look of a sample here Diafora (talk) 22:07, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just saw the insignia you prepared so far. The star shape and coloring was perfect. Immediately recognized it for what it was. Regarding the coat of arms... the Laurel wreath starts and stays the same thickness all the way, almost until the end, completing a full circle. In the middle the pigeon is enclosed in a “shield” just like the police emblem (in colour as well but without the date) I photoshoped a bit the police insignia you prepared in combination with the Cyprus coat of arms link and ended up with a very close representation of what I mean.here (but without the date and the bird a bit more centered filling up the space just like the center of the star.) By the way the same thing happens to the Laurel wreath inside the star. As for the crossed batons you have found, I think its the closest picture possible. When it comes to the actual epaulettes although they seem black in the pictures they are actually a dark blue. For a better representation of the shape I am linking you to a clear picture here and for the colour and button detail hereHope this added details help you out. Great job so far!! Request - CoA Dominica[edit]

Hi again! :) Would you be interested in drawing the coat of arms for the island of Dominica? The coa has two birds, very similar to St. Lucia and has some of the same elements. There's currently no version on Wikipedia yet and it's hard to find a large version on the internet. This would be a huge contribution to wikipedia as users are trying to get/make coat of arms for every nation and there's not one made for this country yet. Any help is appreciated! --Turn685 (talk) 21:50, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for info. Old Gendarmerie ID?[edit]

I'm new to using wiki like this so I don't know if this is the right way to contact you. I am researching for my family tree and I have an old ID photo of my grandfather, after having it translated I was told it was a Royal Hellenic Gendarmerie ID. My question for you is where you got the info on the various ranks, as from what I can see his rank is not among those listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenic_Gendarmerie His shoulder piece looks like the one for second lieutenant or warrant officer except it is blank, Just the button. Here is where I was first asking about the ID, you can also find the photo here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GREEK/comments/ezbhr9/help_translating_what_i_think_is_my_grandfathers/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Voulibar (talk • contribs) 02:15, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that is a lower rang Officer ( Enlisted or NCO ) like Enomotarchis. Those ranks don't have a shoulder insignia. They have sleeve rank insignia stripes. The blue-black patch on the shoulder indicates the Hellenic Gendarmerie branch. (red for infantry etc) --Diafora (talk) 05:59, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greek Phoenix and Old Fire Service Insignia[edit]

Request A: Can you design the Greek Phoenix according to Government Gazzete Issue(ΦΕΚ) 140A-5th of July 1973, which was the finalised design used as a CoA on passports, uniforms et cetera (while the rounded design we currently have available was used only on coins)?

Request B: Not available anywhere else on the net, this Cabinet Decision describes the Fire Service insignia before the introduction of stars instead of bars (the "Cities Police" doctrine was in use, that only armed services deserved stars) https://www.e-nomothesia.gr/kat-pyrkagies-emprismoi-purosbestiko-soma/purosbestiko-soma/upourgike-apophase-15269-ph-109-1-1993.html Could you design the old rank insignia as well?

Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:CoA Hellenic Fire Service.svg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:CoA Hellenic Fire Service.svg).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
