BC signage[edit]

Greetings. You may have noticed that I have renamed most of the BC road signs that you uploaded (as well as my Quebec files, and soon Ontario), so that they will automatically sort together in categories. I hope that this has not annoyed you. However, there are still several that I have not yet renamed because they are a bit ambiguous. Would you be willing to assist me? For example, I have not renamed File:British Columbia PS-002-1.svg and File:British Columbia PS-002-2.svg yet because I lack information on the signalised crossing sign. I have 2 copies of the Pedestrian & School Signs index dated July 2020 and February 2022, neither of which show the second sign, but I know that there are GSV images of it in real life. Do you know if it ever had any official/experimental status, or is it unofficial? There are several other signs I would also like to discuss with you, if you do not mind. Well, I have noticed that the MUTCDC categories are also now incomplete.
There are several BC road signs on Commons that do not show up in the BC MoTI's sign pattern catalogue. They do have what are known by BC MoTI as "Z-records", and should be suggested to BC MoTI to be added to their regular sign pattern catalogue. -- Denelson83 (talk) 19:09, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In regards to the MUTCDC categories, I felt that it would be best not to jumble MUTCDC signs with examples from any of the provinces, even where they are relatively identical to a provincial sign, and especially considering that TAC has a new edition on the horizon. The unfortunate consequence is that, yes, for the moment the categories now appear incomplete. Would you not be inclined to upload the missing MUTCDC signs from your records?
There are two other things I did, which I hope you will appreciate. Firstly, I applied a uniform license, choosing {{PD-sign|type=road signs}} which you seemed to approve of. Secondly, in the case of signs with multiple versions, all versions are now included in the "other versions" section on the infobox for each file, for example File:CA-BC road sign P-020-1.svg.
On to British Columbia, there appears to have been many recent changes to the BC MoTI, and I also tried to reflect that in categorisation to the best of my abilities. Some signs appear to have beed redesigned (noticeably BC seems to be doing away with the dashed lines for signs applying only to trucks), or removed altogether. Knowing that there are also these Z-record signs that are missing from the standard catalogue helps somewhat. Would you describe these examples as something similar to the way DfT provides special warrants for non-standard signs? Or something that is being trialed for future addition to the standard catalogue? If I understand your comment correctly, it sounds a lot like the second. If that is true, perhaps I should wait on renaming these two signs until the signalised crossing version is officially added? Fry1989 eh? 00:20, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The Z-record signs are especially the result of special requests for sign patterns not in the standard catalogue. But if they could potentially be used anywhere in the province, then they should be added to the standard catalogue. What I would suggest is to rename the signs not in the standard catalogue to something more descriptive, and then put them into their own section on the Commons page titled something like "un-catalogued signs", and each one should have one set of coordinates pointing to where they actually are in use.
As for the MUTCDC categories, I really have the opposite standpoint. If there is a sign pattern on Wikimedia Commons that matches a pattern in the MUTCDC, it would really be a waste of effort to duplicate them just to be acknowledged as being in the MUTCDC. -- Denelson83 (talk) 00:56, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see. That certainly makes sense, and the Z-record signs can also always be renamed in the future if they are added to the standard catalogue at some point. The next issue would be signs that have been removed, for example File:British Columbia I-076-1.svg, with that same sign number now being occupied by a new design since at least the April 2022 update (I have copies of the information section dated for March and December 2020, April 2021, and April 2022). Ideally, I would like to rename historical signs under their original number and include the years of use in brackets, similar to File:Finland road sign 231 (1994–2020).svg. This would require assistance in determining the years of introduction and removal. For some signs, we may be able to find that out, but in the cases where that information can't be determined, it could be replaced with "obsolete" in brackets or something similar. Would you agree?
For the MUTCDC, since you disagree so firmly, I would not oppose returning the selected provincial signs. Fry1989 eh? 16:43, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That should work pretty well. It will give road signs a bit of a "usage history". -- Denelson83 (talk) 20:07, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's great. As you can see, I was able to find the years for File:CA-BC road sign RB-R-500-1 (2005–2021).svg and it's "siblings", although with many of the other signs I will require your assistance. I have also created Category:SVG semi-official road signs of British Columbia for those signs which I suspect are from the Z-records, whilst many others have been put in "historical" categories. However, there may be some overlap so please correct me wherever I am mistaken. Fry1989 eh? 15:30, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flag of Morocco.svg and associated files[edit]

Thank you for the beautiful job you've been doing on flags, including the Flag of Morocco. One detail I’ve noticed about that flag off-WP and in person: the star is "interwoven" or "interlaced", i.e. with breaks to suggest lines going over and under other lines, in what's called the "left-handed" version (the diagonal line from top to bottom crosses over the horizontal line on the left side). I've just posted both left-and-right-handed versions on Commons (left, right→), in case these help you when working on the flags. Happy wiki-ing! – Raven  .talk 13:11, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
