Hotcat issue

Hi, you recently added a lot of photos uploaded by me to Category:De Havilland Mosquito which appear incorrect. For example 1. You may want to double check what happened, possibly because you based it on a search for 'mosquito', and think about reverting. Thanks -- (talk) 14:24, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Could you give me some examples of incorrect files? I was working with the official description that always involved "Mosquito". And I did categorise images where Mosquitos were involved in air victories, and photos of ground crews working with Mosquito equipment. So I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. De728631 (talk) 14:28, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
I must have missed that tent image you mentioned above but I thought I had checked the files I was going to tag. De728631 (talk) 14:30, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Well, here's another and another that jumped out. I haven't checked through the others. I suspect you need to choose a less ambiguous search. Keep up the good work though, with 12,000+ images uploaded from the IWM, there's plenty that can be done. -- (talk) 14:37, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Yep, those slipped by as well. I've only just discovered the Cat-a-lot tool so I need to check the search results more thoroughly. De728631 (talk) 14:41, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
I suggest experimenting with VisualFileChange too. It's quite powerful for complex and multiple field searches. -- (talk) 14:54, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

IWM Duplicates

Hi, I noticed the duplicates you have been marking. As the upload did a checksum comparison before upload, none of the near duplicates can be identical files. Most seem to have been 'touched up' in some way before upload so they are deviating from the IWM file. There are some problems with potentially deleting these as duplicates, rather than marking them as the originals and the others as derived works, such as a second upload run would re-upload the deleted file (as it does not exist on Commons) and that by deleting the original and leaving a derived work, we may loose something of the quality of the original scan. Cheers -- (talk) 16:55, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I was just wondering about File:Hotspur glider.jpg which you obviously didn't upload once more. I'm going to have a look at the files I've tagged so far to check if they're really identical with the previous upload. De728631 (talk) 17:02, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
On the other hand there are those cases where your new upload was clearly superior in terms of resolution, e.g. File:Royal Navy Submarines in Holy Loch, Scotland, 1942 TR612.jpg vs File:HMS Sea Dog.jpg. I think we can let the old, smaller versions of such files go. De728631 (talk) 17:13, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Cool. I suspect that the IWM versions will be the better, or at least more authentic, originals, however there just might be some around where the IWM's 800px wide released versions might be inferior, though this could probably only happen if someone had paid for the original full size digital scan and then released it themselves somewhere. We would need to be careful about sourcing such images, should we ever find one as we would not want to unfairly accuse someone of breaking the IWM terms and conditions. Cheers -- (talk) 17:52, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Alright, I've gone through Category:Duplicate and have converted the relevant files to "other versions". And now for some dinner. :) Cheers, De728631 (talk) 18:04, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Educator 64

:) De728631 (talk) 19:58, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

De Cecco pasta

Hi. I wasn't sure when I uploaded it. What do you suggest we upload for the De Cecco wikipedia page? Would their pasta on a white plate, without the label, work better? Or will we just need to wait for someone to take a picture of their headquarters in Italy? Please reply on my page. Thanks.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:51, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

But they sell internationally. Would simply changing the licence here make a difference?Zigzig20s (talk) 18:00, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Also, how would I change the licence? Do I need to delete this file and upload it again?Zigzig20s (talk) 18:01, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

File:Gedenktafel im Bahnhof von Kronstadt 1.jpeg

Hallo, De728631,

De728631 (talk) 15:13, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Train categorisation

Hi mate. You beat me to the punch with my Kidderminster uploads. For your future reference, you can easily categorise British mainline trains using the ukt template. Use like {{subst:ukt|150|101|London Midland|Centro revised|Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster Line}} to categorise 150101 of London Midland, in Centro revised livery, on the B-W via Kidderminster Line. Each train should in principle be categorised by operator, line and livery. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:05, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

That's cool. Now we only need a way to integrate this into Hotcat. ;) De728631 (talk) 21:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Oh, and if you add an extra term, it adds "train interior" cats. Add 1 for 1st, x for cab, anything else standard. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:37, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for mentioning this Copyvio

File:Wappen Wiesenbach (Baden).svg

Hi, thanks for making me aware of the complicated copyright situation of coats of arms. Unfortunately I'm not sure whether I understood it correctly, so I'd be glad if you could tell me if I unterstood it right:

If a file like e.g. Wappen Altwiesloch.png includes {{coat of arms}} and I then redraw the coat of arms and upload it as a SVG file, this would be a copyright violation, since there has been no artistic creativity?

Obviously this doesn't require much creativity. It is just the conversion task. For this reason I put on the SVG files I uploaded:"|source=based on File:Wappen Wiesenbach Baden.png" and "|author=rebuilt as SVG file by Denes Translations" This way I clarify that this is no derrivative work, but just a PNG converted into SVG.

Is that the wrong way to proceed? How do I do it correctly?

Thanks for your advice.

De728631 (talk) 22:44, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Category:Aircraft at Uetersen Airport

Moin!

Könnte man das noch weiter unterteilen, so wie Category:Cessna at Uetersen Airport, Category:Piper at Uetersen Airport usw.? Huhu Uet 19:14, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

--4028mdk09 (talk) 18:39, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Murals

Hi there, I am currently uploading a Flickr stream, and there are a few murals in amongst them. I will be going through and cleaning the uploads up, so to save you the hassle of filing DRs, you can feel free to leave them as is for the time being, and within a couple of days, they will all be sorted, and I will deal with all of them in bulk. Don;t bother categorising, I'll get to it in a few hours. Unless you can categorise the flowers, in which case please do. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:57, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

I think I'll leave that to the botanists. ;) On another note, the ukt template does a great job but surely need to know about something about lines and liveries before adding it. It might be easier to make all those parameters optional. De728631 (talk) 16:00, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
If people can't do it all I'd rather they just leave it in the parent category, that way it doesn't get 1/3 categorised, which requires catscan etc to find and fix. -mattbuck (Talk) 16:04, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Wappen der Freiherren Pranckh zu Pux

Hallo.

Album covers

Hi, I wanted to add the cover for "Big TV", White Lies' album. This is the first image I have ever added to Wiki Commons and as you can see it didn't go very well. I wanted to add similar copyright etc. information as there is for the cover of their previous album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Whiteliesritualcover.png) and upload it in smaller resolution, but I guess simple copy/paste didn't work. It would really help if you refered me to some page with information on adding album covers and necessary tags. I would also be happy to delete that file myself, but I don't know how... Mayast (talk)

Album covers are almost always copyrighted and are not released under a free license, so we can't upload them here. Several Wikipedias, however, have the option of hosting such images with a fair use rationale. E.g. at the English Wikipedia, you can upload a low-resolution file by going to Wikipedia:Upload/Non-free album cover. That's a guided process to help you with uploading non-free album covers. You should also read Wikipedia:Non-free content to get an idea of the general concept. Please feel free to ask me at my Wikipedia talk page if you need help over there. Hello, I hope you're okay, you told me the last you could do little things is what you could do this please.

This shield is not completely finished could you make the dividing line between the eagle and the bridge please do and you could do the banner above the crest.

On the coat of arms there is also a banner with the words FOLKETS KÄRLEK MIN BELONING (words is gold)

Hello. I've added a division line at File:Blason de Charles XIV Jean de Suède.svg, but I'm not sure if the motto banners should actually be included. Because in the end that depends on the original blason. Do you have a text with the original description? I've looked into the Armorial Rietstap but couldn't find the arms of Carl XIV John. re hello, the separation bar is not displayed in the arms 1

description comes from a book called Dynastien Bernadottes vapen och det svenska riksvapnet Arvid Berghman and the model is taken from the book and the model is in a church in Stockholm or are buried all the [[kings and queens.

Can I please ask you why you do the banner had not white as in the example

Thank you again cordially--Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 16:39, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

I didn't make a white banner because I think the contrast between the banner and the letters is better this way. Also, the example you showed is just one artist's rendition of the arms, as is mine. Unless the blason explicitely calls for a white banner, we can use any reasonable colour. De728631 (talk) 17:48, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Here is a Swedish heraldic wiki of sorts that attributes a completely different coat of arms to Desideria. It seems that they show the personal arms of Désirée Clary before she became queen of Sweden. De728631 (talk) 21:18, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Merci bien! Then I'm going to remove the GFDL / CC licenses. De728631 (talk) 11:19, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

no license tagging

Hi, thx for your help in Category:Coats of arms images without a license: needs history check. But could you pls. add {{subst:nld}} instead of (I guess) {{subst:no license}}, which resulting unnssary code and an incorrect date of when the images were tagged. Altrnativly you can activate the "quick delete" gadget within your preferences. Then the uploaders will be informed automacticly. thx. --JuTa 19:38, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

"Quick delete" sounds like a quick solution. I'm going to try that. De728631 (talk) 19:40, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Escudo de Artajona ?

Bonsoir. Merci Etxeko (talk) 00:44, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I don't speak French. But the message about a missing license went to both SanchoPansaXXI and Miguillen. De728631 (talk) 12:55, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

delete request

hello, could do the necessary to ensure that the image of the coat of arms of Queen Desire is no longer "delete request"

thank you--Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 12:15, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I can't do a lot about it. It will be closed by an administrator. De728631 (talk) 12:52, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Why was that considered to be a copyright violation? Of course, now I have no way of knowing what the asserted claim was... AnonMoos (talk) 16:07, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

It's good that things are OK again, but considering that the problem was more one of annoying inattentiveness to details than flagrant brazen copyright violation, you could just as well have used {{Nld}} as {{Speedy}}... AnonMoos (talk) 23:46, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Can you please explain why do think that this image violates some copyright? The page you referred to ("Guidelines for the use of the Nordic logo"), first, is about the logo and does not mention the flag, second, is called "guidelines" — I do not see how it is related to copyright issues and what legal status it has at all. I was not able to find anything about copyright policy for flags in general either... — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 01:03, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Logos such as this one are automatically copyrighted to either the designer or the relevant organisation. The flag you uploaded displays said logo, and the guidelines page states explicitely that such a logo must not be used by outsiders. This restriction is not compatible with the requirements for files at Commons. Media at Commons need to be usable by anyone for any purpose. Apart from that, the Nordic Council has not published any of its graphics under a free license, and the file is not yet licensed either. So, even if you only took the logo and put it into a white field to create a flag, that would still be a derivative work of the original logo, and thus a copyright infringement. Notices for lack of license

Thanks for the warning. Those pictures are a series I came up too fast and was due perser license with copy-paste of fond code. If more cases please let me know and I'll solve it, Regards Miguillen (discursión) 14:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

No problem. You might also want to look at Category:Coats of arms images without a license: needs history check for any of your uploads. De728631 (talk) 14:27, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

File:Blason de Charles XIV Jean de Suède listel.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Deletion requests/File:Blason de Charles XIV Jean de Suède listel.png

Hi, I just saw your answer, in fact, I'll tell you why I asked the deletion of the file.

I do a lot of research between Nordic Library in Paris and another in Stockholm with sources that I think the fairest possible.

But unfortunately, when I ask something (always with courtesy and politeness incidentally), I always feel that I mind.

So finally, the shield has imperfections, but if I ask to change, nobody will answer my worst ... demand will remain unanswered as the Queen Desideria...(19h24, le 13 Juin 2013 (UTC))

Here I wish you a good evening, cordially--Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 18:05, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, that is not any reason to delete the file. We all do voluntary work here, and if your requests remain unanswered then that is either because people don't have time to write back or because there are some misunderstandings. Imperfections can be corrected, so instead of seeking deletion, please tell me or anyone else what should be fixed. You might also want to ask the Commons:Graphic Lab for assistance. De728631 (talk) 18:22, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
here is no misunderstanding between us, I made a request to the workshop "demand" blazon three weeks ago and practically there either I did not answer ...

do not think I'm angry, but I took two weeks off in June to take care of armorial ... I just feel a little disappointed.

I'll report if you do not want to remove the shield,

If you have the time to help me just called me.

good evening to you cordially--Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 19:01, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I can help you with "Blason de Charles XIV Jean de Suède listel" but I have already told you in the section above that I don't know how to draw the arms of Desideria. So, what's wrong with the shield of Charles XIV Jean? De728631 (talk) 19:23, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Good evening and thank you very much first, in fact, there are three things any first crown (he was crown prince), the central shield could you standardize with other shields and finally order (medal) could you put like this

a)

b) the central wholes shields should have the same form and bridge the separation must be gold

c) the order can put as

Thank you very much for your help, you told me you did not draw the image of the queen: the arms or order?

thank you again cordially --Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 19:51, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Well, that very crown you just showed me is already in the current image. And are you sure that the form of the shields has been prescribed anywhere? In heraldry, a coat of arms is not defined by the look of its elements but by the description, the blazon in English or blasonnement in French. So I'm not convinced that we need to change the bridge or the shield. But I can easily move the order downwards, to it doesn't interfer with the crown.
As to Desideria, I didn't draw anything yet, neither the arms nor the order. De728631 (talk) 20:56, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
I have now changed the bridge and the division line. De728631 (talk) 22:38, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi, thank you so much this is perfect thank you again good evening cordially--Dunkerqueenflandre (talk) 17:17, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Why has File:Caleidra, Miss Me, Official Video, Photo Still, Jan 2013.png has been nominated for deletion?

Hi De728631,

I just checked your reason for nomination for deletion and can see why you suspected it was a fan account. Caleidra has tweeted the image from her official Twitter account to verify that it is an official Flickr account.

Thanks,

Wappenbuch

--WolfD59 (talk) 06:45, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

That's not supposed to be what categories such as Category:Azure a chevron Or are for... AnonMoos (talk) 01:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

I do think that category works perfectly well. If you take a closer look, the sinister side of the entire shield is itself quartered with the first element matching the blazon of "Azure a chevron Or". De728631 (talk) 15:10, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
That's nice -- all these "X a Y Z" categories have notices stating "This category is only for representation of coat of arms whose blazon is exactly X a Y Z", but you seem to be unilaterally changing the intended purpose of the categories... AnonMoos (talk) 20:42, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Not at all. The specific blazons in the notices are still valid for all those arms. "X a Y Z" can occur anywhere in a blazon, not just in the very beginning. De728631 (talk) 20:58, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi,

I want to talk about this image:

It is mostly used by Wikibooks and indicates a level of completeness. However, I think that the order of the color is not logical:

I think it should be blue. Unfortunately, I don't know where to talk to debate about that. Is it should be discussed on Wikibooks? Commons? Meta? And where? ftiercel (talk) 18:44, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Since this colour scale is essentially a Wikibooks project, I suggest you start a discussion at Wikibooks:Wikibooks:Reading room/Proposals. According to their description that is where to to talk about suggestions for improving Wikibooks. De728631 (talk) 18:53, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
OK. ftiercel (talk) 20:13, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Rot

[2]

Hallo,

De728631 (talk) 10:40, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Hier steht's sogar ganz offiziell: RAL 3024.
De728631 (talk) 12:33, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
p.s. 4 neue Bilder Ende August hier Category:Ambulances in Wuppertal. --Atamari (talk) 14:13, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!!

Thank you for the barnstar. I was not aware of them before your gift.

Thanks also for being so understanding about my edits on those RAF squadron roundel files that you created. People are often territorial about files they have created and can be defensive about edits of those files. I greatly appreciate that you are not.

Would you be open to collaborating on some of the squadron roundels for 600, 601, 604, etc.?

Sure. Do you have images of these roundels to build upon? And I really need to check your changes so I can learn how to minimize the code. De728631 (talk) 14:10, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
I just noticed that the 600s roundels already exist, so let me see what I can do to improve them. De728631 (talk) 15:01, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Call to Arms

Hello,

Please explain why you tagged and deleted File:Mackitosh of Mackitosh arms.svg and MacGregor_of_MacGregor_Arms.svg ? I created these a while back using the Inkscape. I see from your user page that you are familiar with Inkscape and Heraldry. My user page: User:Czar_Brodie has all my creations listed. You can see from these that I use appropriate tags and always link art that is on the commons and was used in the pictures I created. If I have been doing something wrong please inform me. Please also restore my art. Both those images took a great deal of my time and was done per requests on Wikipedia Scottish Clan Pages. Yours sincerely, Czar Brodie (not logged in as I do not trust the server I am on, but I can log in later tonight).

Please see User talk:Czar Brodie. De728631 (talk) 15:22, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. I see that it was not you who removed the images. Did you tag them? If so, did you check the history to see if the "own work" or the cc license was removed by another user? Yours ever, Czar Brodie (talk) 05:53, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Can't authenticate E-mail.

Hello De728631,

Would you, as an administrator, please check my account and see what is wrong, in that I am unable to authenticate my e-mail function, thereby limiting me. I've asked for authentication codes but I've never gotten one from Commons, even though I get the message that one has been sent.

Thanks, Bassoonstuff

Graf Von Luxburg.jpg

ask under what grounds delete a file that I create and modify, saiendo I own all rights in the same--Von Luxburg (talk) 13:48, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Please note that I'm not an administrator at Wikimedia Commons, so I can't delete anything here, and as far as I can see, there has never been any such file called File:Graf Von Luxburg.jpg. But if you meant File:Escudo de los Condes de Luxburg.png, I can tell you that was deleted because you copied it from this website. Even if you are affiliated with House Von Luxburg and may be entitled to use the arms, we can't accept media with a copyright that you have not created yourself. Every rendition of a coat of arms is an original work that is copyrighted to an individual artist. So to host this particular image of the Luxburg arms, Commons requires a free licence from the original designer. I'd also like to note that there is already a whole Category:Coats of arms of Luxburg family. De728631 (talk) 00:30, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
