Thank you for creating this map. I believe there is a small error: There is a circle indicating a BOT directly south of Bermuda, east of Turks and Caicos, and north of the BVI and Anguilla. However no such island exists in that area. The circle's longitude is close to that of Anguilla's Sombrero Island, but that is far to the south near the main island of Anguilla. You changed the licence tag on this file to {{Crown copyright UK}}, presumably based on the notice on the source website. I think that this is invalid because the logo is based on the Flag of Wales, which was officially recognised in 1959 so is old enough for Crown Copyright to have expired (if it ever applied). The other elements of the logo, the cross outline and the lettering, are sufficiently simple to come under the UK threshold of originality.

When you added the {{Crown copyright UK}} it automatically generated a speedy deletion tag. I found I was unable to challenge this tag in the normal way, so I changed the tag to {{PD-UKGov}}, modelled on File:Flag of Wales.svg (although the files in Category:National flag of Wales have various licenses).

Removing the {{Crown copyright UK}} has removed the speedy tag, do you think that Commons protocol requires that I should automatically raise a deletion request? You are of course welcome to raise a deletion request yourself.

Hi @Verbcatcher, thanks for your comment as well as looking through the user's images, if you deem it to be based on the Flag of Wales then that makes sense. I did change it to Crown Copyright as that was the only license I can find for the website, but I am new to commons licensing policy, I usually upload CC derivative works, so if you feel PD-UKGov is a more accurate tag then that is fine. The speedy tag has led to bot messages on pages the image is used. If you do not deem it a serious Copyvio then I won't raise a nomination either, as my main concern was that the image was incorrectly tagged as CC. However, any other user is of course free to nominate should they deem it a copyvio in the future. I also tagged File:HMS Cambria.png using the SD Crown Copyright tag, and seen you have changed it to OGL 1.0, does this apply to all MOD content? As reference library states "The material featured on this website is subject to Crown copyright protection unless otherwise indicated", just asking so if I see any other MOD uploads I can use the correct license and not tag it for SD. I have nominated File:203 fd hosp200.png for deletion, see Commons:Deletion requests/File:203 fd hosp200.png, but have argued for its retention. Another editor added {{OGL}} to File:HMS Cambria.png, and I have added a supporting link to the license page[1], where it says "www.royalnavy.mod.uk is published under the Open Government Licence", in addition to Crown Copyright. In general, if there are multiple licenses you can choose any of them. OGL licenses do not automatically apply to MOD or other UK government works, and OGL should be justified for each upload. Maps

Hello again, on a different topic I notice that you have generated several maps, and I wondered if you could make one of George Borrow's tour of Wales for the w:en:Wild Wales article. The route is shown in File:Borrow's Route in Wild Wales.jpg, but a clearer map would be useful.

If you're really keen you might make a better map for w:en:Pacific Clipper, showing the flying boat's route from Auckland to New York via Africa. I made a Wikipedia location map with markers for the stops, but I couldn't figure out how to join the dots. The code for the location map has the latitudes and longitudes.

Hi @Verbcatcher, for Pacific Clipper, I uploaded a flight path map and added it to the article using the overlay_image parameter. The location map currently used is fine in my opinion rather than a separate map as I could not find a detailed flight path (found two conflicting paths [2] [3], so decided just a simple straight connection). Also, on that article's map is Nouméa deliberately omitted? (under Extended points#2 it landed in Noumea.) Many Thanks DankJae (talk) 13:30, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, that looks better. I didn't include Nouméa because it wasn't mentioned as a stop in the article when I added the map. Should we include the initial scheduled flight from San Francisco to Auckland, in a different colour? Is a world map available that is split on the 100°W meridian? Hi @Verbcatcher, there was only one map centred on 80°E (antipode of 100°W, I think) and it being only a PNG file of currents so hard to edit that. I mainly found maps with a split down the Atlantic per here, here and here.

So I created a map split by 100°W meridian here (using Public Domain data), including the initial flight from San Francisco (so a somewhat circumnavigation). I had to rely on the article for landings and dates, and the article uses one source for that section. Be free to request any edits to the map. I've added it to said article and kept the initial location map, you may choose to remove or keep the location map (maybe add links to the location map if kept?).

Thank you. I have some very minor quibbles:

• The date format you have used does not comply with w:en:MOS:DATEFORMAT, if you use the 'January 1, 1942' format then there should be a comma after the day number. You could use the 'Jan 1, 1942' format which might allow for a larger font.
• The map would be less crowded if you put the 'Auckland' label to the right of the city
• I am unsure whether we should indicate San Pedro or Los Angeles, as San Pedro is, and was then, a neighbourhood of Los Angeles. But we should make the map match the article text.

I think we should remove my old map from the article, but I'll leave it for now.

Hi @Verbcatcher, I changed the date format to the short type (it was originally DMY but Americans and the article use MDY and I forgot of the comma), and moved Auckland right. The article says San Pedro which is why I chose it, surprisingly it does not even mention Los Angeles, but seeing what location the original source uses may help. South Wales Valleys

Hi DankJae, The [South Wales Valleys] wikipedia article used to have a great (if a little "copyrighty") map showing the individual Valleys. Since this map was deleted from Commons the article has had to make do with a list of the valleys from west to east. Obviously a map would be much more suitable for this and seeing some of your other work I thought the creation of a new map would be something you'd be perfect for. Would you be interested? If I've grossly underestimated how complex this task is, or if you are unable to spare the time then please just let me know.
